The role

 We are seeking an experienced Manager of Philanthropic Giving with a strong track record in securing major gifts. The ideal candidate will excel at building trusted, long-term relationships with donors and feel confident leading conversations that result in significant philanthropic support. This role will also contribute to the development and delivery of a trusts and foundations strategy, helping to grow and strengthen our portfolio.

Working closely with the CEO, senior leadership and trustees, you will develop compelling funding propositions, steward donors and funders through excellent reporting and engagement, and represent myaware at meetings, events and networking opportunities. You will also maintain accurate records through our CRM system, track performance against targets, and contribute to income planning and reporting. This is a strategic and hands-on role with real impact for people affected by myasthenia.

The Manager of Philanthropic Giving will be predominantly home based within the UK (with occasional working and meetings at Derby HQ) and will work in co-operation with the fundraising team and all myaware colleagues to deliver agreed fundraising targets and campaigns. Own transport is essential for this role as occasional travel throughout the UK will be required to attend donor meetings, events and networking opportunities, as well as the ability to travel to the Derby office. There may be the need to occasionally work during weekends and evenings and therefore there is a need to work flexibly when required.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced and motivated fundraising professional with a strong track record in major donor fundraising along with experience in Trusts and Foundations fundraising. You will have experience in personal communication in asking for high level funds, and experience of stewarding high net worth individuals to maintain high levels of engagement over a significant period. You will have experience of Trusts and Foundations fundraising including pipeline management and stewardship, writing compelling funding applications and impact reports.

You will be a strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal, research and organisational skills, confident managing a complex pipeline and working collaboratively across teams. You will be comfortable working independently, using CRM systems, and engaging senior stakeholders, including trustees and high-level donors. Most importantly, you will share myaware’s values, demonstrate empathy with our cause, and be committed to making a meaningful difference through philanthropy.

Who are we?

Myaware is the only charity in the UK dedicated solely to the care and support of people affected by myasthenia. 

We are working hard to raise awareness of myasthenia, as it is a little-known condition. We provide support for people with myasthenia and their families, whilst offering advice and tips for living with the condition. 

We also fund the research that brings us closer to finding a cure as well as funding specialists nurses and advisors. 

Members of myaware have full access to a wide range of support services and events including our specialist benefits and welfare advisor. 

Myaware supports people with myasthenia and their families.  We campaign for better medical services for people with myasthenia and work to inform medical professionals. 

The myasthenias are a group of neuromuscular conditions. They are rare but also manageable and can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender or nationality. Myasthenia gravis, ocular myasthenia and Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome are autoimmune conditions whereas congenital myasthenic syndrome is caused by an inherited genetic fault. It is thought that there are approximately 20,000 people currently living with myasthenia in the UK.

About the role

The postholder will provide specialised and tailored advice to clients where either their No Recourse status, or complex benefits issues are acting as barriers to them resolving their homelessness. This will be achieved through one-to-one support sessions, drop in advice sessions and advocacy with external organisations. The Migrant and Welfare Advisor will provide a holistic casework support to clients subject to immigration control who do not have access to public funds. They will use their in-depth knowledge of working with No Recourse clients, to assess and refer to suitable accommodation options, including Asylum Support accommodation, host accommodation and NRPF beds (where available). They will also hold responsibility for assessing care and support needs, making care act assessments (where relevant) and supporting clients to access strength-based opportunities, e.g. cycling workshops or other.

The Migrant and Welfare Advisor will also provide advice to clients with complex benefits issues. This may include challenging DWP decisions (via mandatory reconsiderations and appeals), advising and supporting clients with benefit sanctions and issuing pre-action protocol letters, where appropriate.

Main Duties

• Working in a psychologically-informed way, you will conduct assessments to identify care and support needs, and to establish the most appropriate accommodation options for destitute clients with no access to benefits.
• Refer into appropriate services providing support to NRPF clients, including applying for Home Office Asylum Support and provide support to the clients in all aspects of their resettlement into either Asylum Support or Host accommodation including applying for Home Office accommodation support (Asylum Support), grants, advocacy and local support agencies.
• Lead on cases initiated by clients themselves, or by other caseworkers, which are complex (for example, advising clients around sanctions) or where clients wish to challenge DWP decisions in relation to Universal Credit/HRT, Housing Benefit, PIP, Pension Credit, Carer’s Allowance or other UK benefits.
• Assess client eligibility for benefits, support clients to understand decisions and advocate for client via mandatory reconsiderations, appeals and reviews where appropriate.
• Issue pre-action protocol letters and referring to external solicitors as appropriate to challenge unlawful or unjust decisions, or unnecessary delays.
• Provide services at the Community Services Centre and occasional in-reach projects at other sites.
• Offer drop-in workshops or advice surgeries on benefits or immigration support issues, in accordance with service need.
• Contribute case studies and quotes to support fundraising proposals and applications for funding.
• Provide accurate and timely information to clients regarding immigration support and benefits advice whilst keeping up to date with changes through training and other opportunities to ensure that this happens.
• Participate in rota system for Community Services reception space, involving engaging with new and current clients, and supporting with ad hoc tasks (e.g. supporting with laundry, replenishing stores of tea and coffee etc.)
• Agree a risk assessment, safety and support plan with every client that is regularly reviewed and monitored.

General Responsibilities

• In conjunction with your Line Manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of The Passage.

The Director of Fundraising and Development is a senior leadership role responsible for driving sustainable, diversified income growth for the organisation in line with the UK strategic Funding Goal and wider global strategy. We're working with Operation Smile UK to find a dedicated Supporter Care Officer to join their Data, Technology & Supporter Care team. This is a vital role at the heart of their fundraising operation, ensuring every supporter receives outstanding care and stewardship.

Reporting to the Senior Supporter Care Manager, you’ll be the first point of contact for supporters, managing enquiries, donations and supporter records while helping to deliver a positive and engaging supporter journey. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with supporter care or administrative experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality customer service for a cause with real global impact.

To be successful as the Supporter Care Officer, you will need:

• Experience in a supporter care, donor services or similar administrative role

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with data and financial information

• Experience of maintaining CRM/database records and managing multiple priorities

• Experience of donation processing, direct marketing or working within a charity environment

About this key role

Our successful candidate will work in partnership with Pier Road staff, to identify and receive appropriate referrals to the project and to oversee an ongoing caseload of clients, regularly reviewing progress and applying case management skills to provide a personalised service and meet all set objectives.  You will carry out comprehensive initial assessments with clients to produce realistic individual action plans which are regularly reviewed and updated, organise and deliver one-to-one and group activities to prepare clients for employment and to achieve their goals, while also actively supporting clients to navigate and access provision and support available across Bexley.

We also count on you to lead on the development and maintenance of strong links with external agencies, landlords, employers and potential work placement hosts to open up opportunities, plus supervise and support Peer Advisors working on the project and allocating tasks according to their ability and capacity.

What we are looking for

• Significant experience of managing a caseload of clients presenting with support needs and achieving set objectives for employment outcomes
• Experience of supervising or managing volunteers and/or paid staff
• The ability to carry out risk assessments, in terms of both service delivery and individual action planning; reviewing and updating where necessary
• The ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group, in particular barriers faced by people with lived in experience
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written
• A flexible, collaborative and professional approach to your work
