About Little Hearts Matter
Little Hearts Matter (LHM) is a national charity with over 7000 members. We are the only charity in the UK that offers support and information to, and represents the needs of, children and families following a diagnosis of single ventricle heart disease (half a working heart). These congenital cardiac conditions can never be cured, even following repeated surgery, so the children must learn to live within the restrictions that their disability and fears for their future create.
Little Hearts Matter is there from the time parents learn of their child’s condition, through risk-filled treatment into a challenged-filled life at home. LHM is there to support the children as they grow to adults, and their families, through their hopes and aspirations. We believe all of our members deserve the chance to be able to fulfil their individual potential. Our aims are to:
Alleviate isolation by offering support, friendship and understanding from the time a diagnosis is made, through treatment decisions, hospital care and into life at home, eventually introducing parents and patients to other families who have similar experiences and shared concerns helping them to build a network of support.
Reduce fear by offering patients, parents, siblings, and the extended family a greater opportunity to understand the diagnosis and treatment paths available.
Reduce confusion and a lack of understanding by producing and supplying for free, user focused information that supports and aids understanding from the time of diagnosis, through treatments and into life at home.
Raise a greater awareness within Medical, Educational, Social and Governmental circles of the needs of children, and their families, as they travel through every stage of their lives.
Purpose of the role:
The Assistant to the Head of Service will support the effective delivery of Little Hearts Matter’s family services, with a particular focus on enabling smooth communication, assisting in the organisation of service activities and events and supporting service volunteers.

Overview of Post
The Operations & Administration Support role is a vital part-time position responsible for the seamless operational flow of Kairos. Key duties encompass a broad range of administrative functions, from managing the main email inbox and creating visual content to accurate data entry and essential record-keeping. About Adolescent Health Study
The Adolescent Health Study (AHS) (Registered Charity Number 1213337) is an ambitious new UKRI-funded initiative to establish a prospective, longitudinal population study that will generate a globally leading open science data platform and research resource. AHS aims to recruit at least 100,000 young people aged eight to 18 years from across the UK and to follow their mental and physical health and wellbeing over at least 10 years. It plans to collect data through questions and measures; to obtain bio-samples for a wide range of genomic and other high-throughput assays; and to capture linked data relevant to health and wellbeing from participants’ health, education and other administrative records.
There will be a strong emphasis on engaging with and involving young people, schools, parents and other relevant stakeholders in the design and delivery of the study, as well as on including young people that represent as wide as possible a range of backgrounds, experiences and characteristics. AHS will focus on enabling a wide range of research, including studies of the critical biological and social developments that occur during the transition from childhood to adulthood and the determinants of both mental and physical health and wellbeing in adolescents and young adults.
Purpose of the post
The Engagement and Involvement Officer will play a central role in supporting meaningful engagement and involvement of young people, families, schools and other interest-holders in the process of designing, delivering and ensuring the best outputs from the Adolescent Health Study.
Primarily, the postholder will be responsible for the stewardship and coordination of the AHS Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG). The post-holder will provide ongoing support to YPAG members to ensure their active participation in opportunities to inform and shape the work of AHS. This will include working closely with the adults in the YPAG members’ lives, including parents/carers, teachers and other relevant adults or professionals. The postholder will also be required to build positive working relationships with other organisations and institutions that work directly with young people. They will support the Engagement and Involvement Lead to develop mechanisms to reach wider and more diverse groups of young people to take part in engagement and involvement activities at AHS.
This is a role that requires confidence, autonomy, enthusiasm and skill. The post-holder will be a strong advocate for children’s rights, have a sound working knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices, and demonstrate experience of co-ordinating youth advisory groups, youth councils or similar.

Act as the custodian of organisational data, ensuring data integrity, completeness and GDPR-compliant processes.

Work with the services leads to gather high-quality quantitative and qualitative data that reflects women’s experiences.
Impact Reporting & Insight

Produce clear, compelling financial, performance and impact reports for senior leadership, trustees, funders and commissioners.

Translate complex data into meaningful insights that demonstrate organisational impact, effectiveness and growth.

Support strategic planning and funding bids with evidence-based insight and scenario analysis.
Person Specification
Qualifications
-
Professionally qualified accountant (CCAB body such as CIPFA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent, with evidence of CPD.

Additional training or experience in impact measurement, ESG, or sustainability reporting desirable.
Experience
-
Significant experience in charity finance, including management accounting, budgeting, and SORP-compliant reporting.

Demonstrable experience of KPI-based reporting and funding compliance.

Experience in impact measurement and/or ESG reporting in the charity or social enterprise sector desirable
-
Experience leading audits, preparing statutory accounts, and managing Gift Aid and VAT for charities.

Track record of improving financial controls and processes.

Experience with finance systems (e.g. Quickbooks) and data integration.
Knowledge & Skills

In-depth knowledge of Charities SORP (FRS 102), fund accounting, and charity sector regulations.

Strong understanding of impact measurement frameworks (e.g. Theory of Change, Social Return on Investment, ESG standards).

Advanced analytical skills, including financial modelling and impact analysis.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to non-finance audiences.

High proficiency in Excel and business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI
