Job description

We are seeking a full-time Editor of Oryx to lead and manage the Journal. This role offers the chance to make a lasting contribution to conservation science and practice, influencing policy and on-the-ground efforts through enabling the dissemination of cutting-edge conservation learning.

As Editor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the journal’s scientific and strategic direction, ensuring it remains at the forefront of global conservation discourse. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced conservation professional with a strong academic background and editorial expertise to influence the way conservation science is communicated and applied, and play an important role in building local conservation leadership capacity. You will:

  • Lead the editorial vision of Oryx, maintaining its reputation for scientific rigor and relevance.
  • Engage with a global network of researchers, practitioners and policymakers to promote high-quality, impactful content.
  • Support diversity and inclusion in authorship and readership, amplifying voices from underrepresented regions and disciplines.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team to deliver a journal that informs, inspires and drives conservation action.

With a PhD in conservation or a related field, coupled with an extensive track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, you will bring a strong academic foundation. Proven editorial experience and a deep understanding of global conservation issues are essential, along with the ability to critically evaluate diverse scientific manuscripts and manage complex editorial workflows. Exceptional leadership, organisational and communication skills will enable you to work effectively with our editorial boards and foster an inclusive, collaborative working culture. Experience working internationally, as well as commitment to building local conservation leadership capacity is essential for the role, and experience advancing diversity and equity in scientific publishing would be an advantage.
