This role sits within the Philanthropy, Partnerships & Commercial (PPC) team, made up of Philanthropy & Trusts, Corporate Partnerships & Commercial, Special Events & Stewardship, and Fundraising Operations.
The focus of the Philanthropy & Trusts team is to build a solid base of support through excellent stewardship of existing trusts and major donors alongside cultivation of new prospects, reached through prospect research and the networks of senior volunteers. The key purpose of this Philanthropy Manager is to meet both financial and strategic KPIs in order ensure the long-term health of the Philanthropy pipeline. They will do this by personally managing a portfolio of key individual relationships as well as line-managing the Philanthropy Officer to deliver against their targets. This role, together with Battersea’s other Philanthropy Managers, will also work closely with senior leadership, senior volunteers and other individuals to open up networks and introduce new major donors to Battersea.

We’re looking for a Head of Individual Giving to join our ambitious Public Fundraising team.
You’ll be a leader who can advocate effectively for our core purpose, reminding people internally and externally that we’re a charity. You’ll appreciate the ambition and drive to deliver growth through our Individual Giving products, help create a new Community Fundraising programme and build on the success of our Mid-Level Giving programme.
You’ll work effectively with membership and marketing colleagues as well as the wider fundraising team to grow support and integrate the three core areas of the Individual Giving programme. Alongside this, you’ll bring a fresh perspective to our new strategy, to help create the right environment for growth and drive an ambitious and curious culture across the team.

As this is a national role, there is flexibility on your contractual place of work. What you'll be doing
This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a fundraising leader to drive income growth and supporter engagement across our individual giving programmes, including regular giving, in-memory, community fundraising and mid-level giving. You'll be helping to shape the future of public fundraising at the Trust. You'll play a key role in enhancing existing initiatives such as Plant a Tree, Patrons and Adopt a Plot while leveraging your expertise and collaborative spirit to foster innovation alongside colleagues in Membership, Marketing & Communications, and broaden the Trust's reach to new demographics.
As the strategic lead for Individual Giving your focus will be on enhancing supporter experiences and fundraising efforts across the organisation, fostering strong internal partnerships. Your responsibilities will include supporting the team in executing current plans, as well as identifying and developing growth opportunities in Regular Giving, Mid-level Giving and a major fundraising campaign.
Who we're looking for
Applications from redeployees are assessed against the minimum criteria for the role. In your application, please provide details of how you meet the minimum criteria below:
- Experience of delivering 6 figure+ individual giving campaigns across multiple channels, including digital, direct mail and mid-level giving
- Demonstrated success in growing income through individual giving income streams through supporter retention and insight-led strategies
- Experience of building strong working relationships with external agencies and internal partners to deliver integrated campaigns and culture change
- Demonstratable experience of managing 7-figure income and expenditure budgets, including reforecasts, budget monitoring and securing a strong ROI
- Experience in developing and implementing lifetime value journeys integrated with wider charity coms including knowledge of donor motivations and segmentation
Additional criteria for all other applicants:
- Knowledge of GDPR, fundraising compliance and ethical standards
- Experience of using CRM and Data systems to support data-driven decision making
- Experience in managing and developing high performing teams, modelling a high performance culture with the ability to monitor and interpret data and performance to drive results and optimise campaigns

Within this role, you will manage and deliver Battersea’s Lottery & Lead Generation programme, maximising income and achieving budgeted targets and KPIs. About the Role
As Head of Fundraising and Communications, you’ll be working with the Chief Executive, Board of Trustees, and Leadership Team to deliver £1.4m of income and establish a strong financial foundation for the new Youth Zone.
You’ll develop and drive income strategy, lead a high-performing Fundraising and Communications team, and personally manage relationships with key major donors, including local individuals and businesses supporting the Founder Patron campaign. Founder Patrons pledge at least £25k annually for four years, together these 34 Founder Patrons will ensure that the organisation has a strong financial position ensuring the team can transform the lives of 18,000 young people in the first four years.
This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic vision with hands-on fundraising expertise in a role that’s as inspiring as it is impactful.
About You
You will have a demonstrable track record of income generation through personally securing at least five figure major donor gifts from high net worth individual (HNWIs) and/or corporates, with an impressive track record in securing significant funds and meeting challenging financial targets, including both new business and account management
You will have experience of:
- Developing a new pipeline of HNWIs and/or corporate prospects and being pro-active in converting these to active donors.
- Developing and delivering successful fundraising strategies and aligned annual plans, with income and expenditure budgets, and associated fundraiser key performance indicators.
- Stewarding HNWIs and/or corporate donors, or key senior external stakeholders to maintain the highest levels of engagement.
- Managing and motivating team members to achieve their personal and collective goals.
- Working with and influencing senior leaders and peers within an organisation.
- Working to and achieving personal targets and KPIs.

This is a brand-new locally run youth charity, set to provide thousands of young people with the opportunity to have fun, make new friends, try something new and feel safe. With community centric values and located in the heart of Grimsby, it will be an inspiring place for young people aged 8 – 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, to enjoy their leisure. The building is due to be completed in 2025.
