Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Trapping cats using humane methods
• Taking cats to local vets to be neutered 
• Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative

The role might also include:

• Regular feeding of feral colonies
• Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
• Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering 

Time expectation 

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

West London Welcome (WLW) is a community centre and registered charity run for and with refugees, migrants and people seeking asylum, working together with local people to provide a safe, positive experience of community to reduce isolation, build inclusion and confidence, and challenge injustice.

Each week at WLW brings unique joys and challenges. We support hundreds of people from 70 different countries with a range of immigration statuses, providing English classes, advice, casework, hot food, a foodbank, clothing, childcare for those in classes, and social and creative activities. We take a holistic approach to support the needs of our members, from the practical and social to the emotional and playful.

Our ongoing work with people with lived experience of seeking refuge and migration

At WLW we are striving to ensure our staff, volunteers and Board of Trustees are reflective of the communities we work with.

Our staff team includes five people with lived experience of refuge or migration, all of whom work in a wide variety of ways on a weekly basis with the refugees, migrants and asylum-seeking people who come to our centre. Our Board of Trustees includes one person who we supported through the asylum system, and five of our nine Trustees have lived experience of refuge or migration.

Amongst our 100+ volunteers, many are our beneficiaries whom we also support, who work collaboratively with us to run our centre. A fifth of our volunteers have lived experience of refuge or migration. From cooking and organising our foodbank to running our creative activities and translating for our advice team, this collaborative work ensures our community members have a stake in the way we practically run our organisation day-to-day and have a sense of ownership over the space.

We are now looking to recruit a new Trustee with lived experience of seeking refuge or migration.

The Role
 

We are looking to recruit a trustee with some or all of the following skills and/or experience:

• Lived experience of the challenges of seeking refuge or migrating to the UK from another country. We welcome applicants who have either moved to the UK recently, or decades ago.

• Refugee/migrant sector experience – experience of volunteering or working within the refugee and migrant NGO sector in the UK or another country. This could include either volunteering or working directly for an NGO, or in another related capacity such as with a campaign.

• Somebody who is passionate about the work of West London Welcome and supporting people in our community. 

It is not necessary for applicants to have previous experience of being a Trustee.

Trustee roles are unpaid voluntary positions, but we offer travel and other relevant expenses.

Trustee Duties
 

The general duties of a trustee are to:

• Ensure that WLW complies with its governing document (its constitution), charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

• Ensure that WLW pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.

• Ensure WLW applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, i.e. it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they appear to be.

• Contribute actively to the Board’s role in giving firm strategic direction to WLW, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

• Safeguard the good name and values of WLW.

• Ensure the financial stability of WLW.

• Protect and manage the property of WLW and to ensure that proper investment of WLW’s funds.

• Support WLW’s Directors and monitor their performance.

• In addition to the above general duties, a trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, evaluation or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Minimum Time Commitment

• The Board generally holds meetings at least four times per year. These normally take place in the early evening and last approximately two hours. There may also be additional occasional trainings.

• Trustees should also support WLW at informal fundraising and other events as part of their ambassadorial role as well as making make regular visits to the WLW centre.

• This is a voluntary position, but trustees can claim out of pocket expenses such as those incurred in travelling to meetings.

• Occasionally quick decisions on urgent matters need to be made. Trustees should be available via WhatsApp as well as at regular board meetings to provide needed input/advice.

Each trustee must have:

• A commitment to the mission of WLW;

• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort;

• Good, independent judgement;

• An ability to think creatively;

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C. works with survivors, vulnerable adults, young people, and lived-experience storytellers. Content is not neutral here. It carries emotional, legal, and safeguarding weight.
The Content Approval & Safeguarding Coordinator exists to ensure that nothing goes live unless it is safe, ethical, compliant, and aligned with survivor-centred practice.
This role is a gatekeeper role, not a rubber stamp.
 
Purpose of the Role
This role sits between content creation and public release.
Its purpose is to:

• Protect survivors
• Protect the organisation
• Protect the community
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, consent, and data protection standards

This role ensures that growth never comes at the cost of safety.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential Experience

• Experience in safeguarding-focused roles where risk assessment, ethical judgement, and protection of vulnerable individuals are central.
• Experience in content moderation, editorial review, compliance, or approval processes involving sensitive or high-impact material.
• Experience working within survivor-led, trauma-informed, or community-based organisations.
• Experience in social care, youth work, community work, or similar environments involving safeguarding responsibilities.
• Experience assessing risk, balancing impact versus harm, and making defensible approval decisions.

Essential Skills

• Strong operational judgement and ability to make clear, consistent decisions under safeguarding and ethical frameworks.
• Excellent attention to detail, particularly around consent, language, framing, and contextual risk.
• Strong written communication skills for documenting decisions, feedback, and escalation summaries.
• Ability to work collaboratively with content, moderation, safeguarding, and campaign teams.
• Confidence following structured protocols and escalating concerns without delay when thresholds are met

Training & Qualifications

• Formal safeguarding training is essential.
• Ongoing training and guidance will be provided to support continuous learning and alignment with CIC standards.

Note: Lived experience alone is not sufficient for this role; demonstrated operational judgement and safeguarding competence are required.

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Review all content prior to publication to identify safeguarding risks, consent clarity, trauma exposure, and inappropriate language or framing.
• Apply content approval protocols consistently, ensuring decisions are aligned with safeguarding, ethical, and organisational standards.
• Ensure survivor testimony and sensitive content comply with informed consent requirements, usage agreements, and platform-appropriate boundaries.
• Assess whether content is suitable for public release, restricted distribution, amendment, or rejection based on risk and impact.
• Liaise closely with key stakeholders to ensure joined-up decision-making, including the Content Librarian / Asset Manager, Community Moderation team, Safeguarding Officer, and campaign leads.
• Maintain clear and auditable records of content approvals, rejections, required amendments, and final outcomes.
• Flag and escalate safeguarding concerns, boundary breaches, and high-risk material promptly in line with CIC escalation pathways.
• Support the development, refinement, and documentation of content approval frameworks and trauma-informed content guidelines.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring risks, gaps in guidance, or training needs related to content safety.

We're keen to hear from you if you'd like to share your experiences as a blind and partially sighted person and help build a world which understands the impact of living with sight loss.

In this role, you will be:

• Delivering talks to groups of sighted people about your lived experience of sight loss to challenge their perceptions and behaviours. Audiences will vary but may include local businesses, community, faith and voluntary groups.

• Making links with your own existing groups and networks in your local community that may want to be involved in reducing barriers to blind and partially sighted people.
• Building relationships with people or local businesses you know.

We are looking for new, UK-based members of our Board of Trustees who share our vision and values to support us in these achievements, meet identified skills gaps and broaden strategic perspectives.
