The New Normal are a growing charity whose mission is to change the way we discuss our grief, mental health and wellbeing in open and honest spaces. We believe that nobody should ever feel isolated, and there is always someone who will relate to your story. “If there’s one, there’s two.”

We run free virtual and in-person peer support meetings for adults facing life’s difficult moments, particularly bereavement. 

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about using social media for good? This is your chance to use your skills to support people through one of life's most difficult experiences.

You'll help us spread our message that nobody should face grief alone, connect people to our free virtual and in-person peer support meetings, and grow an online community built on openness and compassion. You'll receive regular check-ins and guidance from a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, free safeguarding training, and a reference letter upon completion, all while building real, meaningful experience in the rewarding charity sector.

This role is ideal for students, recent graduates, or career changers looking to build experience in charity communications or digital media.

What You'll Do

• Create social media posts in line with our brand tone: inclusive, warm, and sensitive to the subject of bereavement
• Schedule and post updates about weekly peer support meetings and events
• Help plan simple campaigns or awareness posts around key dates (Mental Health Awareness Week, Grief Awareness Week, World Suicide Prevention Day, etc.)
• Contribute creative ideas to help our mission reach more people online
• Communicate regularly with your coordinator and flag any challenges early

• Someone who can commit to the full 6-month term (potential to extend)

We are looking for volunteers to join the GBSL project run by the Sickle Cell Society and help increase life-saving blood donations in Black-heritage communities.

• Raise awareness about the importance of ethnically matched blood for people with Sickle Cell

• Share facts and real stories about blood donation

 Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our collection box fundraising volunteers help our volunteer groups raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

 What we need from you

You’ll be:

· overseeing the collection and delivery of collection boxes in different locations

· recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters

· researching local areas for collection box ‘hot spots’

· sharing fundraising ideas with other volunteers and putting these into practice 

· sharing your passion for cat welfare and promoting the work of Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our collection box fundraising volunteers usually spend 1 to 2 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Volunteering for Sense

Sense is a leading disability charity with extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering personalised, creative and flexible support for disabled people with complex needs. Our tailored approach ensures that every person is empowered to live fully at every stage of life.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

What your role will involve

You’ll get the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do. 

When you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

If you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Following successful short listing of your application, you will be invited to an in person interview. This is a relaxed opportunity for us to get to know you, and you to learn more about the role and ensure it is a good fit for your volunteering aspirations. We will then undertake necessary screening for the role, which may include a DBS check, right to volunteer check, professional references and an occupational health assessment. Please note this process usually takes around 6 weeks.

WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS VOLUNTEER 

Will you use your time and practical skills to help raise funds for the fight against unfit housing and homelessness? 

Will you become part of our Sunderland Warehouse team and make a meaningful difference? 

Whether you’re sorting stock, preparing items for distribution, helping keep the warehouse organised and safe or supporting with online sales, you will play a vital role in supporting our work. You'll be joining a friendly team in a practical, hands-on role where you can share your skills to enable our Shelter shops across the country 

We rely on people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. If that sounds like you, we’d love you to join the team. 

Location: Shelter Warehouse, 244-246 High Street West, Sunderland

Suggested contribution: It’s up to you! Volunteers can support for a few hours a day, or a few days a week. 

Availability: Our warehouse is open Monday to Friday from 9am – 5pm

Shop volunteering helps fight the housing emergency by raising vital funds that enable Shelter to provide advice and support for people who are experiencing bad housing and homelessness, as well as powering us to campaign for change.

Stories Volunteer

Do you love the challenge of telling a good story? Do you enjoy listening to other people and learning about their experiences? We’re looking for a great communicator with a flair for the written word to help us develop a bank of stories about our volunteers. 

We have more than 2000 volunteers who help us deliver life-changing services, raise money and campaign for change. Our volunteers have a wealth of experiences, backgrounds and stories to tell. We’re looking to capture these stories so we can recognise and demonstrate the impact our volunteers have and share the news of their amazing contribution.

Suggested Involvement: Flexible and ongoing. Approximately 1-2 stories per month.

Location: Remote/online

Supervised by: The Volunteering Team

Main Tasks

• Interviewing volunteers by phone or video call

• Writing up volunteer stories engagingly for various channels e.g. social media, Shelter website, intranet and our volunteer newsletter

• Ensuring permissions are collected and recorded

• Maintaining a positive relationship with the volunteer while interviewing them, writing up their story and following up with any subsequent questions

Skills and experience required

• Experience with writing and publishing pieces either as part of your work, hobby or previous volunteering. 

• Experience with researching and/or interviewing to gather information.

• Accurate spelling and grammar as well as a creative and engaging approach to telling stories.

• Confident use of IT and awareness of online platforms.

• Excellent communication and listening skills. 

• Willingness to follow Shelter’s policies including Volunteering, Data Protection, Confidentiality and Equality & Diversity.

You will help bring our communications to life by responding to requests from across the organisation and turning them into clear, engaging social media content. What are we looking for (about you)?

We are looking for someone with strong social media experience who can commit around 6 to 16 hours per week and is confident working independently.

You will be comfortable engaging with colleagues across the organisation, taking initiative to shape and plan content as your understanding of our work develops. A proactive approach is important, as you will not only respond to requests but also help identify opportunities to strengthen our messaging.

Experience in using social media analytics is highly beneficial, along with a willingness to support the production of monthly or quarterly insights to help inform our approach.

An understanding of Long Covid or experience communicating within a healthcare context would be advantageous, although this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

· Drafting social media copy in line with our communications and brand guidelines.

· Creating simple, engaging visual content using Canva for use across platforms

· Building and scheduling posts in Buffer to support a consistent and timely content plan

· Ensuring a balanced and varied mix of content is planned and delivered across the week

· Adapting messaging and content appropriately for Instagram, BlueSky, LinkedIn and Facebook to suit each audience and platform

We’re looking for one Support Group Volunteer over the age of 18 years old, based at St. Marys (Eltham) Community Complex Association, 180 Eltham High Street, London, SE9 1BJ.

You’ll be volunteering every Thursday between 10:30am and 12:30pm.

As a support group volunteer, you will help with the running of the group. The role is designed to suit the needs of the group, and the skills of people offering support. If you enjoy getting to know your community, working with others and making a real difference then this is the role for you.

The volunteer will be

· A people person, with good listening skills

· A great communicator who enjoys meeting new people

· Good at putting people at ease

· Reliable and organised

· Passionate about supporting people affected by stroke

This support includes one-to-one and group support, funding vital scientific research into stroke prevention, acute treatment, recovery and long-term care, and campaigning to secure the best care for everyone affected by stroke. 

We’re here for stroke survivors and their loved ones, from the moment they enter the new and frightening post-stroke world, supporting them every step of the way as they find their strength and their way back to life.

TVS is a small, volunteer-led charity dedicated to working with rural schools in South Africa, aiming to empower vulnerable children through education.  We are recruiting a team of volunteers to work with our trustees to help us to continue our work to transform lives. If you are passionate about building relationships and driving positive change, you could make a significant impact as a volunteer Corporate Partnerships Officer, helping our charity connect with businesses, develop collaborative projects, and secure crucial support for our cause.

In this role you would advise our board on developing strategies and take on a variety of responsibilities such as

Conducting prospect research to identify potential corporate partners

Securing new partnerships with firms whose values align with the charity.

Relationship building maintaining regular, high-quality communication with partners

Organising and facilitating employee-led fundraising initiatives

Representing the charity at networking opportunities to raise the profile of the organization.

If you have experience in business development, networking, or simply a desire to make a difference, we encourage you to join us. You would be working remotely but would be at the heart of our organization, meeting up regularly, online or in person, with our trustees and fellow volunteers.
