About Schoolreaders
One in four children in England leave primary school unable to read at the expected level — a barrier that shadows their education, confidence, and life chances. Schoolreaders was founded in 2013 to change this.
The Charity delivers weekly one-to-one reading support to primary school children who need it most, powered by a nationwide network of trained volunteers. This community-driven model delivers exceptional impact at minimal cost. It is incredibly simple and everyone wins – the children benefit from consistent, regular additional reading support, schools benefit from trained volunteers spending one-to-one time with children, and volunteers benefit from an increased sense of purpose and wellbeing.
Demand is soaring. In just 13 years, Schoolreaders has become England’s largest in-school reading support charity. Today, almost 40,000 children receive one-to-one reading support each week, and the charity is on track to deliver more than 1.5 million in-person reading sessions in 2026 — the National Year of Reading.
Support is targeted where it matters most: 46% of participating children are eligible for Pupil Premium, and over half of partner schools serve disadvantaged communities. Independent evaluation with the Institute for Research in Education shows powerful results: across three terms, every single child improved their reading age beyond expected progress.

While prior governance experience is welcome, the organisation is equally open to applications from those seeking their first non-executive appointment.
Education
The Board welcomes applications from those with current experience as a primary school practitioner, ideally within the state sector. The capacity to deliver strategic direction is essential. Insight into challenges linked to deprivation and the use of educational technology would be particularly valuable in shaping policy, practice and partnership development. A background in safeguarding would also be highly valued. Candidates may have held leadership roles such as Head of Department, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher, Chief Executive, or Director of Education. Appointees will also join the Education Safeguarding Consultation Group (meets online three times per year).
Communications / PR
The Board is seeking a Trustee with significant experience in communications, brand development, and / or marketing, and a strong understanding of digital and social media strategy. Candidates may come from any sector, provided they bring sound judgement, strong strategic thinking, and the ability to operate credibly across these areas. Experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing at a senior level will be valuable.
This Trustee will bring valuable insight as Schoolreaders strengthens its in-house communications and marketing capability and will help to shape the development of a longer-term strategy to raise the organisation’s profile and extend its reach. They will also support the development of a more integrated and cohesive approach, contributing to thinking on brand strategy, marketing and communications priorities, audience engagement, and external profile, as well as offering insight across digital, social, and traditional channels.

Bi Pride UK’s mission is to create spaces where people who experience attraction beyond gender can be freely visible and celebrate themselves and their identities. It’s not enough to be ‘welcome’ at Pride. We make up a very large proportion of the queer community – the 2021 Census actually shows we’re half of the community – and we deserve to be visible and celebrated in our own right.
There are many ways to make this happen, and we work in many ways to bring this change about:
Outreach work with other Prides, LGBTQ+ organisations and bi organisations – our consultation work with local Prides, the UK Pride Organisers Network and local and national LGBTQ+ organisations works in a tailored way to make sure that bi inclusion is a top priority and is being done well
Organising a high-profile annual Bi Pride event – from September 2019, Bi Pride UK made history with the largest ever gathering of bi people recorded. A performance stage, a panel stage, stall village, street food, and over 1,300 attendees. After going virtual with the BiFi Festival for 2020 due to Covid-19 and running a virtual Pride event in 2021, we came back in person in 2022 with a hybrid event, and have been running the event in this format ever since
Building a strong online and virtual community – just as important as the rest of our work is making sure that people hear about it! People need to know what resources and spaces exist for them, and how they can connect with other people like them
The role:
The Events team at Bi Pride UK is one of the core operational teams within the charity. The team handles programming, production and execution of our events, including our annual flagship Bi Pride event, which holds the record for the largest Bi Pride event in the world. This role will sit within the Main Stage sub-team, who take operational responsibility for the Main Stage within Bi Pride UK’s events; a space which brings together invigorating and entertaining performances from an array of singers, dancers, comedians, drag artists, burlesque performers and more.
The Main Stage Assistant Manager will support the Main Stage Manager on the planning and delivery of the Main Stage programming at Bi Pride UK’s events. This role will work collaboratively with the other Main Stage Assistant Managers, and support the “on-the-day” volunteers at our events. The holder of this role will work to provide a programme of live entertainment that represents and celebrates bi+ people, their voices and their experiences.
Key tasks of this role will include:
Working closely with the Main Stage Manager, as well as volunteers across the charity, to deliver a Main Stage provision that meets the charity’s vision;
Booking a diverse range of performers and hosts, after contributing to assessments of each performer’s application for suitability/ reputational risk against the aims and objectives of Bi Pride UK;
Overseeing the completion of performer and host contracts, receipt of invoices and other relevant documentation, including accurate record keeping and storage of such documents;
Supporting with logistical aspects to ensure the smooth running of the Main Stage on the day of the event, including stage set up/ take down, time management/ scheduling, troubleshooting any issues arising on the Main Stage and liaising with other departments involved in the Main Stage delivery (e.g. lighting and sound technicians, streaming technicians, Artist Liaison volunteers, performers, BSL interpreters, etc.);
Liaising with the venue, the venue’s technical team and performers to arrange the logistics for the Main Stage delivery prior to the event (including agreeing upon riders, stage layout and equipment, lighting and sound requirements and arrival/ performance times, etc.);
Maintaining positive relationships and facilitating effective communication with prospective performers, confirmed performers, volunteers, the venue, and any other relevant stakeholders;
Working with the Hybrid Event Specialist to support the smooth running of the Main Stage livestream and a good viewing experience for online attendees;
Working with the Access & Inclusion team and the Accessibility Consultant to implement their recommendations and ensure the Main Stage is fully accessible.
Our team volunteers remotely from anywhere in the UK, with some travel required occasionally (primarily for our flagship Pride event in London in August). All reasonable expenses incurred are reimbursed, including travel, lunch at away days and other all day events, and some childcare costs if required. The successful candidate will be invited to fortnightly Events team meetings on Wednesday evenings via conference call, in addition to Main Stage programming meetings which will be scheduled in line with the team’s best availability.
Volunteer specification:
Interest and passion for tackling discrimination against and improving the visibility of people in the UK attracted to more than one gender;
An understanding of the needs of people and communities in the UK attracted beyond gender;
Commitment to the aims and objectives of Bi Pride UK;
Some experience of stage management (desirable but not essential);
Understanding of organising event logistics (e.g. venue layout, timings, resources) and good awareness of relevant health and safety and risk management measures linked to stage-based performances;
Ability to handle documentation and accurate record keeping in a manner which adheres to confidentiality and GDPR requirements;
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with volunteers at all levels within the organisation, as well as with external contributors (for example, performers);

About Us
Focus Surrey runs a Saturday Club for autistic children aged 3 to 16. We provide a fun, supportive and child-centred environment where children develop communication, social interaction and early learning skills through play, guided by the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Role Overview
As a Talent Advisor, you will be a frontline advocate for fair and inclusive employee relations (ER) practices at QuilomboUK. You’ll manage ER cases, guide managers through complex performance and disciplinary matters, and contribute to building a positive workplace culture through proactive strategies. Your work will ensure HR policies and processes align with our mission, legal standards, and social justice values. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional passionate about resolving conflicts equitably and fostering an environment where everyone thrives.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations (ER) Case Management
Handle end-to-end ER cases, including grievances, disciplinaries, absence management, and performance issues, ensuring fairness, transparency, and compliance.
Advise managers on ER processes, providing coaching on conflict resolution, documentation, and equitable decision-making.
Document case outcomes meticulously and identify trends to recommend preventative measures.
Investigations & Compliance
Support complex workplace investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing stakeholders, and drafting reports in collaboration with the Manager: Talent Advisory.
Ensure all ER outcomes comply with UK employment law, organisational policies, and QuilomboUK’s D&I principles.
Mitigate organisational risk by maintaining accurate records and escalating high-risk issues promptly.
Workplace Culture & Engagement
Design proactive ER initiatives (e.g., manager training on bias-free feedback, mediation programs) to promote a positive, inclusive culture.
Partner with the People & Culture team to embed restorative practices and psychological safety in conflict resolution.
Contribute to engagement surveys and action plans to address systemic employee well-being issues.
Policy Development & Implementation
Collaborate with the Manager: Talent Advisory to design, update, and implement HR policies that reflect QuilomboUK’s values, culture, and legal obligations.
Communicate policies clearly to employees and managers, ensuring accessibility and understanding across all levels.
Monitor policy effectiveness and propose adjustments to align with evolving organisational and social justice goals.
D&I Integration
Apply a D&I lens to all ER processes, ensuring marginalised voices are heard and outcomes address systemic inequities.
Advocate for inclusive practices in performance management, such as culturally sensitive feedback frameworks.
Support initiatives that advance QuilomboUK’s external social justice partnerships and internal equity goals.
Qualifications
Experience: 2+ years in HR or employee relations, with hands-on experience managing disciplinary, grievance, and performance cases. Exposure to mission-driven or D&I-focused organisations is preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of UK employment law and ER best practices.
Ability to navigate sensitive conversations with empathy, discretion, and cultural competence.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for policy drafting and stakeholder guidance.
Proficiency in HRIS systems and case management tools.
Knowledge: Understanding D&I frameworks, restorative justice principles, and trauma-informed HR practices.

Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, the event invites the community to participate in free performances, workshops, and exhibitions promoting cross-cultural understanding.
As part of this initiative, we are seeking a Bid Writer to support Quilombo UK in securing vital funding and resources to further our mission. This remote volunteer role is ideal for someone who is passionate about community impact, writing, and making a meaningful difference in the Third Sector. You'll work with a supportive team, gain hands-on experience in funding applications, and help shape the sustainability of impactful community programmes.
Position Overview:
The Bid Writer Assistant plays a key role in researching, drafting, and editing compelling proposals and funding applications for various projects run by Quilombo UK. The role involves close collaboration with department leads, collecting relevant data, and ensuring submissions align with organisational goals and funder expectations. It offers the flexibility to work independently, with the support of experienced professionals and tailored training where required.
Key Responsibilities:
Proposal & Bid Development:
Research, draft, and edit funding proposals tailored to specific grants, donors, and partners.
Review and refine existing proposals to ensure clarity, compliance, and impact.
Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant content, project insights, and financial information for bids.
Develop supporting documents and presentations to accompany applications.
Strategic Input & Collaboration:
Contribute to the bid strategy, suggesting creative and relevant ideas aligned with organisational goals.
Maintain and manage a structured “bid plan” with timelines, approval processes, and submission deadlines.
Liaise with HR, Finance, Marketing, and Project teams to align bid content with current projects and strategic direction.
Reporting & Organisation:
Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of bid statuses.
Organise bid-related documentation, supporting strong internal knowledge management.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in English, Communications, Business, or related fields.
Experience:
Prior experience writing funding proposals or grant applications.
Familiarity with fundraising, community initiatives, or nonprofit funding is desirable.
Skills:
Strong written communication and persuasive writing skills.
High attention to detail, organisation, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word; Excel knowledge is a plus.
Confidence in researching, planning, and collaborating across teams.
Ability to work independently and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
