The role in a nutshell:

Age NI is looking for Enabling Connections Volunteers across the Northern Trust area and Belfast Trust area to provide companionship, encouragement and practical support to older people.

What will you be doing?

As an Enabling Connections Volunteer, you will:

•Be matched with an older person in your local area
•Meet weekly to provide companionship and a listening ear
•Encourage and support them to achieve personal goals
•Help them build confidence and independence
•Explore local activities, groups and opportunities together
•Signpost to local services and support where appropriate
•Keep in touch with the Enabling Connections Coordinator.

Flexible Volunteering
The role is designed to fit around your availability, making it ideal for people with work, family or other commitments.

Where Will I Volunteer?

Support may take place:
•In the older person's home
•In local community settings
•While attending activities or groups together.

All support will be guided by the older person's goals and interests.

How would you be supported in this role?

When you volunteer with Age NI, you'll receive:

•Full induction and ongoing training
•Ongoing support from the Enabling Connections Coordinator
•Regular volunteer meetings and supervision
•Reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

It’s easy to forget how long a week can feel when you’re on your own. Could you spare an hour to brighten an older person’s day? Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale is looking for friendly volunteers to offer companionship to people who may spend long periods alone with little or no social contact.

A weekly visit or phone call can lift someone’s mood, ease isolation, and give them something positive to look forward to. You don’t need any experience — just kindness, good listening skills, and a genuine enjoyment of chatting.

Fancy combining a Saturday kick-about with actually changing someone's week? We're looking for volunteers to help kick off Route to Roots, a new football and lunch club for asylum-seeking men in Bethnal Green. You'll help welcome people, grab the pizzas, chat over lunch and join in the football if you fancy it – but no skill or sports required, just a friendly face.

About Globe Community Project

Globe Community Project is a grassroots charity working in Tower Hamlets, one of London's most diverse boroughs, for over 20 years. Our mission is to transform loneliness into connection among isolated people and under-served groups. Whoever we're working with, we want to create spaces of joy, friendship and belonging. Our two established programmes, Well Old and Touching Safe Ground, support older people and refugee women and their children. Route to Roots is a brand new project for men who've recently arrived in the UK seeking sanctuary.

About Route to Roots

We’re looking for volunteers of any gender to support this new football and lunch project for male sanctuary seekers in Bethnal Green. We'll bring together 12–14 men each Saturday for an informal kick-about, followed by lunch together. The aim is simply to create a welcoming space where people can connect, build community and enjoy some time together.

What you'll be doing

Your job is to welcome participants to the venue and help create a warm, relaxed space. One lucky person gets to collect the pizzas from a local restaurant. Volunteers will also be chatting with people over lunch, and giving people chance to practice their English. You can join in the football - if you fancy it! No footballing skills or sports action required though - just a friendly face and a bit of time to give.

Who we're looking for

We welcome volunteers of any gender and any background. You don't need previous experience working with refugees or people seeking asylum - just warmth, patience, and a genuine interest in getting to know new people. You'll need to be 18 or over.

Through volunteering with us, you'll meet new people from your local community, learn more about the realities faced by people seeking asylum, be part of a friendly, welcoming team from day one, and help shape a brand new project from its very first sessions.

Abbey Community Centre Green Guardians
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the Centre’s communal garden.
The sessions are suitable for anyone who enjoys spending time outside, gardening and having the opportunity to meet new people.  Tasks include weeding, watering, planting seeds and bulbs and picking the fruit and vegetables we’ve grown.
Most of our garden is in raised beds and containers so taking part is accessible for those who might not usually be physically able to do so in a ‘normal’ garden environment. 
No experience is needed, just a love of nature and a willingness to get stuck in.
Sessions take place on Fridays from 10:30am to 12:30pm at

Become a Community Discharge Support Service Volunteer and help someone get back on their feet when they come home from hospital.

What do Community Support Volunteers do?

Our friendly Community Support Volunteers visit people when they have come home from hospital, typically once a week for 4 – 6 weeks.

At a time when people are recovering and really appreciate a bit of extra help you could be supporting with shopping and light housework. But it’s often the company and encouragement of our volunteers that is appreciated the most as we check in and chat!

By doing this we help with recovery and reduce the chance of readmission to hospital.

You can also help from our office in Aylesbury  by making welfare and check in calls with our clients and helping to arrange these visits.

It's a great way to make a real difference to someone's life at a time they especially need it.

What is expected of me?

Community Support Volunteers are expected to visit each client once a week for up to 6 weeks.

These visits are flexible, based on your availability.

Our office support volunteers are asked to help for 1 – 2 hours a week.

Volunteers complete a short relevant training session and provide references.

We’d love you to be part of our Information & Advice Service. As an Information Volunteer Assistant, you could be :

• Welcoming and providing information to visitors

• Ordering leaflets from various sources

• Updating external contacts

• Undertaking general administration

• possibly dealing with straightforward signposting and information.

You’ll enjoy working within a team of volunteers and meeting new people, have great communication skills, are polite and emphatic, understand basic IT systems and updating manual records, and are able or willing to learn to use the internet and Microsoft Office 365.

We are currently looking for someone to volunteer for 3 hours, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays either am or pm.

We will reimburse your out-of-pocket volunteer expenses.

As a Macmillan Information & Advice Hub Volunteer, you’ll get a chance to meet new people and be part of an amazing team of Volunteers. It is really important to us that we provide the practical and emotional assistance required to our clients and that's why both Macmillan and ourselves will give you the support, supervision, volunteer insurance, and training required for the role.

The Hub is a drop in facility aimed at giving advice to local residents living with cancer, their friends and family or even fellow professionals. You will be providing face-to-face assistance which will include giving out high quality Macmillan advice resources or signposting to other service (all with the support of an employed Co-ordinator). You will also be providing emotional support by showing empathy, actively listening, and providing encouragement and reassurance. The Hub is based in Hastings Town Centre (the old Town Hall) and you could volunteer for as little as half a day.

We are currently looking for 1 volunteer for Friday mornings and 1 for Friday afternoons

A bit more information about this role and the team

Fosterers open their hearts and homes, looking after cats until they’re adopted.

To be a fosterer:

• you will require your own home, or written permission from your landlord to foster cats
• to be 18 years or older
• experience of caring for pets or a willingness to learn about care care. We can provide all the training and support you need 
• a good-sized room in your house just for your foster cat, or a garden or suitable outdoor space where we can put an outdoor pen 
• access to transport to take your cat to any appointments
