Fundraising volunteer roles

The Treasurer is a key officer of the Board of Trustees, providing strategic financial leadership and oversight. The role ensures the Charity’s financial sustainability, compliance with statutory and funder requirements, and effective financial governance, enabling the organisation to deliver its mission and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Contribute to the development and oversight of the Charity’s strategy, with particular focus on financial sustainability and resource planning.
• Advise the Board on financial risks, opportunities, and the implications of strategic decisions.

Financial Oversight

• Ensure the Board receives timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information, including budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and annual accounts.
• Provide assurance that financial reporting complies with regulatory, statutory, and funder requirements.
• Oversee financial controls, policies, and procedures in line with the Charity’s scheme of delegation.
• Oversee the appointment and performance of external auditors and financial advisors.
• Work in close partnership with the Director of Finance to support effective financial management.

Assets, Reserves and Investments

• Ensure appropriate reserves and investment policies are in place and reviewed regularly.
• Monitor investment performance and advise the Board accordingly.
• Ensure the Charity’s assets and equipment are properly maintained, protected, and accounted for.

Governance and Compliance

• Ensure the Board understands and fulfils its financial duties and legal responsibilities.
• Lead regular reviews of financial policies, procedures, and the scheme of delegation.
• Chair the Finance and Governance Sub-Committee and report to the Board.

General Trustee Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Board’s strategic leadership, policy setting, and performance monitoring.
• Ensure the Charity’s resources are applied solely in pursuit of its charitable objectives.
• Safeguard the Charity’s reputation, values, and financial stability.
• Act collectively and responsibly as a Trustee, including declaring and managing conflicts of interest.
• Attend and prepare for Board and sub-committee meetings and participate in additional activities as required.

Skills and Experience

• Financial or commercial expertise sufficient to provide strategic financial oversight (professional qualification desirable but not essential).
• Experience of financial management, governance, or risk oversight.
• Ability to scrutinise financial information, ask constructive challenge, and communicate clearly with both financial and non-financial colleagues.
• Commitment to the values and mission of the Charity.

Suffolk volunteers meet across three venues. Ipswich meet on a Tuesday evening, Stowmarket meet on a Monday evening and Bury St Edmunds meet on a Wednesday evening. The type of events Suffolk volunteers have historically supported are Suffolk Show, Aldeburgh Carnival, Newmarket Racecourse, Undley Pumpkin Patch, University of Suffolk open days along with smaller events like village fetes and galas, 5k, 10k and half marathon running events, firework displays and remembrance events. They have also assisted with National and State events in London such as the London Marathon.

 We are recruiting Community First Aiders in the North Nottinghamshire area, covering Worksop, Retford, Tuxford, Warsop, Ollerton, South Normanton, Mansfield, Sutton In Ashfield, Kirkby in Ashfield, Bilsthorpe, Farnsfield, Hucknall, Eastwood, Kimberley and surrounding villages. Our training sessions are in Worksop, Mansfield, Bilsthorpe and Hucknall.

The Business Development Assistant supports New Leaf Fertility Partners in identifying and nurturing partnerships, networking opportunities and relationships that will help New Leaf grow its presence and impact globally. The role focuses on research, outreach and relationship support, helping to build the connections that will allow New Leaf to serve more people in the region.

This is a proactive, relationship-focused role for someone who understands the local private sector landscape or health and development ecosystem. It does not involve clinical responsibilities or client management, but sits at the centre of New Leaf's growth strategy in the region.

Key responsibilities

Local research and prospecting

• Research fertility communities and develop potential partnerships globally
• Identify opportunities for New Leaf to collaborate, co-create on a global scale
• Monitor the fertility landscape for relevant opportunities

Outreach and proposals

• Support outreach to agencies, clinics, organisations, community leaders and businesses
• Help develop proposals and partnership briefs
• Assist in preparing materials for meetings and introductions

Relationship tracking

• Maintain records of contacts, meetings and follow-ups
• Help ensure local relationships are nurtured and kept active over time
• Work closely with the Ghana team to keep strategy and priorities aligned

Role boundaries

The Business Development Assistant will not make commitments on behalf of New Leaf, negotiate terms independently, or engage with clinical or patient-related matters. All significant external communications should be reviewed with the Operations Manager before being sent.

Skills and qualities

• Background or strong interest in business, partnerships, fundraising or the development sector
• Excellent written communication and the confidence to reach out to new contacts
• Organised and methodical, with strong attention to detail
• Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
• Familiarity with CRM tools or spreadsheets is helpful

Working arrangement

This is a flexible, part-time volunteer role of approximately 5–8 hours per week. Exact hours will be agreed with the Operations Manager. The scope of the role may grow as New Leaf's development activity expands.

We are looking for our next Chair of Trustees – someone who will work closely with our Executive Team and Board to guide the organisation through what is both a challenging and genuinely exciting time. The funding environment is tough. The political context is difficult. And yet the need for what we do has never been greater.

This is an unpaid voluntary role. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with our Volunteer Expenses Policy.

The successful candidate will lead a vibrant, well-established, national charity as it navigates the next chapter of its story.

Main tasks

• Developing and setting our future strategy, alongside the Executive Team and other Trustees
• Helping shape and deliver our future, identifying opportunities in an evolving landscape
• Leading the Board of Trustees, including regular 1:1s and providing space for reflection
• Acting as a 'critical friend' to our Executive Team, as well as formal line management to the CEO (and COO in their absence)
• Acting as an ambassador for the charity – raising awareness of what we do and engaging potential supporters and other key stakeholders
• Responsibility, along with the other trustees, for the governance of the charity
• Contributing to the ongoing strategy of the charity, in line with our charitable objectives
• Participating in board meetings and sub-committees in an inclusive and thoughtful way
