The British Red Cross is offering a Career Taster week which will give you an insight into the world of work with world’s biggest humanitarian organisation and the charity sector. The week will include workshops, training and a virtual networking event at the end of the week!

Work experience placements give an opportunity to gain experience within different departments and an insight into the work of the British Red Cross.

The placement will run from the 23rd February to 27th February 2026, from 10.00 - 13.00 each day. The sessions will be online via teams.

The scheme is predominantly open to young people aged 15- 25 year olds and there are 30 places available.

The week will cover the following:

Induction to the British Red Cross: You will learn about the history of the movement, our work and fundamental principles as well as gaining First Aid skills.

Career Development Workshop: In this workshop you will learn about career opportunities, be able to develop your CV and application writing skills as well as learn interview skills.

Digital Media: You will learn about how to keep yourself safe online and what different annotations me in the social media world.

International Humanitarian Law: You will learn about humanitarian law and what it means in today’s society.

Networking Event: You will meet staff members from different teams and learn about their career journeys!

Volunteer Content Creator – West Midlands | Inspire Action for Nature

Are you passionate about video, storytelling and the natural world? Do you want your creativity to make a real impact?

RSPB is looking for a Volunteer Content Creator to help bring our conservation work to life across the West Midlands, including Staffordshire, Birmingham and the Black Country.

In this role, you’ll film inspiring volunteer activities, events, nature reserve trails and family-friendly play spaces. You’ll then edit this footage into engaging content tailored for different audiences and platforms, from short, eye-catching social media videos to longer films that showcase the power of our projects and the people behind them.

In return, you’ll gain hands-on experience with Europe’s largest conservation charity, build a strong and varied content portfolio, and learn how creative storytelling can help save nature and connect people to it. You’ll receive ongoing support from the Area Manager, access to RSPB online and in-person training, and become part of a friendly, supportive and enthusiastic team. We can also provide a laptop for the duration of the placement, and all travel expenses will be reimbursed.

This flexible role is mostly remote, with occasional on-site filming days. We’re ideally looking for someone who can commit 3–5 days a week for around six months, but we’re happy to discuss different levels of availability. Your creativity could inspire more people, from more diverse backgrounds, to take action for nature. ��

What can I expect to be doing? 

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following: 

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with our fundraising events, attending supermarket collections or local markets. 

• Distributing collection tins – popping collection tins into local shops and pubs and collecting them when they’re full. 

• Bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life. 

• Engaging with your local branches and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team!

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

Core Responsibilities:

• Support the Operations Manager with all administrative tasks as directed.
• To monitor our general enquiries inbox, maintaining confidentiality at all times and responding to enquiries in a timely manner.
• Processing new referrals by passing the information from new enquiries to the appropriate staff members
• Supporting the wider staff team with digital tasks.
• Answering the office phone, dealing with enquiries where possible and passing messages to the appropriate parties in an efficient manner.
• Shredding confidential paperwork, photocopying, and scanning as needed.
• Greeting visitor to the office, ensuring they are comfortable and feel welcomed.
• Setting up the meeting room for various events, conferences, and training days.
• Distributing flyers and posters to increase family referrals and volunteer recruitment across community spaces in Camden and Islington.
• Shopping for refreshments and other one-off items as needed.
• Organising donations and office space.
• Updating official Home-Start Camden and Islington correspondence forms to reflect the correct contact information etc. Additional Responsibilities based on volunteer’s interests and skills.

The Fixing Factory is a community repair hub where we teach repair skills, repair and refurbish electrical waste, and help people keep their electrical items in use for longer.

Our work is made possible with the support of a team of volunteers who help people to get their electronic items fixed, learn repair skills and provide valuable support to environmental charities Possible (The 10:10 Foundation) and The Restart Project. 

We’re looking for a Volunteer Videographer to help film our events, workshops and behind-the-scenes moments at the Haringey Fixing Factory — and turn them into engaging video content that helps grow the Fixing Factory brand.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys storytelling, wants to build their portfolio, and cares about sustainability, community and reducing waste.

RSPCA Alton, Haslemere & Petersfield Branch

We are looking for volunteers to join our Trustee board with expertise in any of these areas:

• Charity finance/ Treasurer

You will gain new skills and experience as a Branch Trustee whilst enabling us to help animals in our area.

Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic people to take the role as a Charity Trustee, who could devote some time to volunteer for the Alton, Haslemere & Petersfield Branch and support us in boosting our local animal welfare work. Alongside using your expertise, this role will enable you to enhance how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow Trustees, in the running of the Branch and the implementation of a development plan. At a minimum, you would normally be expected to attend a monthly online committee meeting and to spend further time driving forward our activities.

The Alton, Haslemere & Petersfield RSPCA Branch

We are the local branch of the national RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area.

The Branch is in an enviable financial position and employs an experienced member of staff as Branch Manager. Once additional Trustees are in place, we expect to move towards CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) status.

Our main current activities are:

• Providing financial assistance to local people unable to afford unexpected vets’ bills. In the past year, we have allocated £40,000 to this area.
• Collecting petfood donations, which we collate and then pass to our local foodbanks.
• Re-homing cats in the Alton part of our area, organised in co-operation with the neighbouring RSPCA Branch.
• Some fundraising activities, including organising fun Dog Shows.
• We are looking to recruit at least three new trustees to work on significantly developing the Branch over the next few years. Initiatives we are considering are:
• Establishing a comprehensive fostering and re-homing network, across the entire Branch area.
• Major income generation initiatives, including opening our own shops.
• Developing our own animal centre resources, possibly in co-operation with private sector providers in the Branch area.

Core Branch Trustee responsibilities

• Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
• Work in conjunction with fellow Trustees and Branch Officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interests of the Branch and the RSPCA.
• Assist the Branch, as appropriate, to work with and assist national RSPCA staff, including but not limited to Inspectors.
• Actively participate in Branch committee meetings and to attend the Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new Trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
• In conjunction with fellow Trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions.

What we are looking for in a volunteer

We are committed to creating a Board which is representative of our society and encourages people from any background to apply. You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills.

Practical considerations

• To become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and have become a member of our Branch.

• You must not be disqualified from being a Trustee. Please read the Charity Commission’s guidance on who can be a Trustee of a charity.
• You will need to sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act, clarifying that you are not disqualified from being a Trustee.
• References will be required.

Spare Tyre Theatre Company are recruiting voluntary non-executive board members with a passion for participatory theatre arts. New trustees will be joining us at an exciting time for the company, as we implement our next 3-5 year strategy; prepare for our 50th anniversary year in 2027; continue our year-round programme of creative participatory workshops; and develop two new touring productions: What Will Happen to the Cat? and Vanishing Point.

Spare Tyre is one of the UK’s leading participatory theatre companies. We are an Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio Organisation and are an artist, disability and female led charity. Representation and Advocacy 

• Act as Ambassador for Be Enriched at external events, meetings and functions when required.

• Liaise closely with CEO to maintain strategic overview and provide appropriate support. 

• Serve on senior appointment panels as needed.

Terms of Appointment 

Terms of Office 

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, with renewal available at end of first term.

Time Commitment 

• Attendance required at four quarterly board meetings (conducted online via Teams from 4:30-5:30pm). 

• Attendance compulsory at the Be Enriched AGM (conducted in-person).

At Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C., every story, every update, and every donor communication is a chance to build trust, mobilise communities, and fuel systemic change. The Content and Donor Communication Specialist ensures that our messaging is consistent, compelling, and aligned with our values, translating the C.I.C’s mission, impact, and vision into content that engages donors, volunteers, and wider audiences. This role is not about casual posting or generic marketing. It is about strategically shaping how the CIC’s story is heard and acted upon.

Purpose of the Role

This role exists to:

• Craft and manage communications for donors, stakeholders, and the wider community
• Translate survivor-led stories and CIC activities into impactful messaging
• Develop content for emails, newsletters, social media, and fundraising campaigns
• Support the Fundraising Director in building donor relationships through clear, engaging, and ethical communication
• Ensure all content aligns with CIC values, trauma-informed practice, and safeguarding policies

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential / Highly Valued Experience

• Professional or voluntary experience in copywriting, communications, or journalism.
• Experience creating email newsletters, donor updates, or fundraising communications.
• Strong understanding of donor engagement strategies and how content impacts retention.
• Experience creating content for social media with organisational or campaign objectives in mind.
• Editing, proofreading, and content planning skills.
• Ability to maintain a consistent organisational voice across platforms.
• Familiarity with GDPR, data protection, and safeguarding requirements for communications.
• Skills in tracking and interpreting engagement metrics and refining communications accordingly.
• Collaborative skills to work effectively with multiple teams, volunteers, and directors.
• Ability to adapt content for different audiences and ensure accessibility and inclusivity.
• Strong organisational and project management skills for content planning and scheduling.
• Experience in creating templates, guides, or standardised communication processes.

Desirable / Can Be Developed

• Experience using email marketing or newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, CiviCRM).
• Knowledge of digital content analytics tools to monitor performance.
• Experience mentoring or supporting volunteers in communications roles.
• Ability to integrate donor communications with wider fundraising campaigns and events.
• Familiarity with multi-channel campaign planning and content strategy.
• Skills in visual content creation or basic design for communication purposes.

Qualifications

• Equivalent professional or voluntary experience in communications, content creation, or donor engagement highly valued.

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Develop clear, engaging, and accurate copy for all donor and community communications, including:
  • Emails and newsletters
  • Fundraising campaign materials
  • Donor updates and acknowledgements
  • Event promotions and volunteer communications
• Maintain a consistent organisational voice and messaging across all communication channels.
• Collaborate with the Fundraising Director to ensure content aligns with campaign goals, donor engagement strategies, and organisational priorities.
• Work with the Social Media Team to ensure content supports multi-channel campaigns and wider communications objectives.
• Track donor engagement, feedback, and responses to communications to identify patterns and refine messaging for maximum impact.
• Support segmentation, personalisation, and targeting of communications to ensure relevance and donor retention.
• Ensure compliance with data protection (GDPR), safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all communications.
• Collaborate with volunteers and other teams to adapt content for different audiences, ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity.
• Proofread, edit, and quality-check all content before publication to ensure accuracy and professional presentation.
• Contribute to content planning, calendars, and scheduling to maintain regular, timely, and coordinated communications.
• Assist in developing templates, guides, or SOPs for donor and community communications.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to other volunteers involved in content creation or communications.
• Monitor performance metrics for communications and produce reports to inform strategy and campaign planning.
• Ensure all communications reflect and uphold the C.I.C’s values, culture, and brand identity.

• Prefer casual or low-commitment volunteering
• Are seeking immediate paid employment
• Want to write content without considering impact or ethics
• Are uncomfortable working with sensitive or trauma-informed material

Important to Be Clear:

• This is a volunteer role during the C.I.C’s build phase
• It carries real responsibility for shaping our messaging and donor relationships
• Paid roles will emerge as funding and sustainability allow

Fundraising Events Organiser Volunteer

Would you like to be part of a dedicated and friendly team of volunteers and make a real difference to the lives of cats and kittens in our care?  Do you enjoy planning and organising for events?  Maybe you have a particular skill that you would like to put to use?
 
Then this could be the role for you! 
 
Our Fundraising Events Team are at the heart of what we do, raising essential funds for the cats. 

Our Fundraising Events Organisers share ideas, tasks and inspiration, planning and delivering local events, with the support of the Fundraising events helpers, such as Open Days (usually 2 per year) at the centre and our annual Christmas Bazaar. 

Time Expectation:  This role can be varied and time commitment can be flexible. 

Without volunteers, Cats Protection Berkshire Cat Centre simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of Berkshire.

Please note:  Although we do welcome everyone, unfortunately our centre is not set up to accommodate young volunteers under the age of 18, including those on the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
