Our Volunteer Opportunity

You may support SUNSHINE with:

• Designing and developing our volunteering programme from scratch.

A bit about this role...

Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our Collection Box Volunteers help us raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

What can I expect to be doing?

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

• Researching local shops, pubs and businesses to place Collection Boxes
• Delivering Collection Boxes to locations
• Recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters
• Collecting and replacing Collection boxes when they're full
• Sharing your passion for cat welfare and promoting the work of Cats Protection

What are the benefits to you and the cats?

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge though Cats Protection’s learn online system, providing you with the skills to thrive as a fundraiser. You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and be part of a dedicated team of Volunteers.
Money raised by our volunteers enables us to put cats first. Cats are at the centre of all we do. We care for them, ensure their welfare, and help others to understand and better support them.

How much time is expected of me?

Our Collection Tin Volunteer role is very flexible and can be completed at your own pace, independently with our dedicated support.

About Morning Star International Church (MSIC)

Morning Star International Church (MSIC) is a Christ-centered, Pentecostal church based in Croydon, UK, serving a multi-ethnic and multi-generational congregation. Our mission is to share the love of Christ through worship, outreach, discipleship, and community service.
We are seeking temporary Charity Workers who feel called to support our ministry’s day-to-day activities, outreach programmes, and events on a voluntary and short-term basis.

Summary of Role

Charity Workers will assist in non-pastoral, non-salaried, and supportive functions of the church. Under the supervision of the ministry team, you will serve in a range of activities aimed at supporting the mission and community work of MSIC.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

These responsibilities are temporary and voluntary, supporting the charitable and religious objectives of Morning Star International Church.

• Welcoming and assist attendees during church services and events.
• Helping with ushering, seating arrangements, and basic hospitality (e.g., serving refreshments).
• Distributing service materials such as bulletins, flyers, and other church resources.
• Providing general support to church staff and volunteers during gatherings to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all.

Role summary

As a Community Support Volunteer, you will play an important role in the Compassionate Communities programme by helping people talk about death and dying, grief and loss as well as raising awareness about St Helena Hospice services. We believe that breaking down taboos and getting people talking is key in helping communities support each other.

Your role will involve:

· Offering a welcoming, supportive presence and a listening ear to allow people to engage in meaningful conversations around topics such as incurable illness, caregiving, dying and bereavement. This may include signposting to relevant community support or care provision.

· Establishing contacts within the community and building relationships

· Supporting St Helena in informal sessions or larger events that may be held in community groups, charities, cafes or other organisations.

· Connecting with St Helena staff and partners before and after events to give feedback and receive support

· Assisting with basic event logistics such as setting up spaces, offering refreshments, distributing materials, and collecting informal feedback.

· Dedicated line manager for training and support with regular meetings

Experience & qualifications required

· Experience in a role involving interaction with the public, especially in a supportive or listening capacity

· Understanding of the importance of compassion and empathy when discussing sensitive topics

• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.
• Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.
• Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.

About Us

Mind of the Student is a youth mental health charity that works with schools, young people, and families to support emotional wellbeing and improve mental health awareness.

Our programmes include EmpowerU, Empowering Young Minds, school mental health workshops, Mind of the Parent, and Ambassador Training. Through these projects, we aim to create safe spaces where young people feel heard, supported, and empowered.

The Role

We are looking for Programme Support Volunteers to support our delivery team during workshops, school sessions, and community programmes.

This is a supportive role where volunteers work alongside a Project Lead or Lead Facilitator to help sessions run smoothly. Volunteers will not be expected to deliver content, but will play an important part in supporting students, helping manage group activities, maintaining appropriate ratios, and contributing to a positive environment during sessions.

This role would suit someone interested in mental health, youth work, education, psychology, counselling, or anyone looking to gain experience working with young people.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

• Supporting Lead Facilitators during sessions and workshops
• Helping create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment
• Encouraging student participation and engagement
• Providing general pastoral support to young people where appropriate
• Supporting behaviour management alongside staff
• Assisting with setting up and packing away resources
• Helping monitor student wellbeing during sessions
• Escalating any safeguarding or wellbeing concerns to senior staff
• Supporting the general organisation and smooth running of programmes

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for people who:

• Are passionate about supporting young people
• Have an interest in mental health and wellbeing
• Are approachable, reliable, and professional
• Feel comfortable working in school or youth settings
• Work well as part of a team
• Are willing to learn and take part in training

Previous experience is not essential.

We especially welcome applications from students or individuals looking for placements or practical experience within mental health, education, counselling, psychology, youth work, or related sectors.

• Be based within a 20 mile radius of Havering, Islington, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Croydon, or Southend on Sea
• Be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
• Be able to commit to between 0 and 8 hours per week

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

As a hospital volunteer, you might:

· hold drop-in sessions

· attend events and ward meetings at local facilities

· share information

· assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

Our gardens are extremely important. They welcome visitors and are where families spend time together, relax and make lasting memories. We are looking for keen gardeners with a passion to work alongside existing volunteers under the direction of staff, to maintain and enhance the gardens and grounds.
