At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

Research & Policy Officer (Volunteer)

Purpose: To support research / policy projects in areas of the UK, ensuring strategic alignment, quality assurance, and effective collaboration that drives systemic change for young people across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of research / policy projects, ensuring outputs are high-quality and impactful.

• Lead on drafting policy briefs and research reports, setting standards for evidence-based advocacy.

• Coordinate multi-stakeholder collaboration, i.e councils, commissions, and community organisations to deliver change.

• Identify emerging issues and opportunities, help in shaping the research agenda in line with organisational priorities.

• Represent the organisation in external meetings.

• Ensure consistency and coherence across multiple projects running in different localities.

Person Specification

• Background in social policy, law, health, climate, or political science, ideally with professional or postgraduate experience.

• Proven ability to manage complex projects and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust is a local conservation charity working to protect wildlife and help 
people connect with nature. We believe that wildlife should be able to thrive alongside our everyday 
lives and that everyone is better off when they have access to nature. With a team of volunteers, we 
care for wild places to create space for nature and help communities create their own wild places. 
We help people experience the wildlife on their doorsteps and to take action to protect it. 

Join the Trust’s busy Individual Giving team to help look after our amazing community of 
members and donors

We need an Individual Giving Volunteer to support with office administration and preparation of 
regular membership communications and Welcome Packs, helping to care for and sustain the 
support of our regular donors.

Role responsibilities:
• Pack and send our Welcome Packs for new members and for Wildlife Watch families
• Pack and send our membership letters and other supporter communications 
• Stock-checking
• Checking, scanning and filing supporter documentation and records
• Supporting the team with general office administration and front of house enquiries
• Researching areas where the Trust can grow our community fundraising e.g. looking into 
local supermarket giving schemes

Skills and experience you will need:
• Willingness to letter stuff, frank and dispatch post
• Competence in using Microsoft Office – needed for some elements of the role
• Organisation and attention to detail
• Regular availability and reliability on a weekly basis
• Enthusiastic about wildlife and the work of the Trust
• Willingness to work as part of a team
• Willingness to work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection

Anticipated time commitment:
• One day/half day a week on either a Monday, Thursday or Friday. If you were looking to

get involved in other Trust activities

We’re REMIX, a Shoreditch‑based social mobility charity on a mission to help young people rewrite the stories they’ve been handed and remix their lives with confidence, creativity, and community. This September, we’re launching something big — and we need a Graphic Designer with energy, imagination, and a love for bold youth culture to help bring it all to life.

This VOLUNTEER Role

Volunteer Drivers 

Enthusiastic, hands-on volunteers needed to help provide food to the community. Bounds Green Food Bank is fortunate in receiving food and other donations from local supermarkets, businesses and individuals. We are grateful to our team of volunteer drivers who both collect and deliver on the food bank’s behalf each week. 

Hours: At any time during the week - this is a very flexible role and there is no minimum time commitment, can choose deliveries to suit your own schedule.

Location: Around the Enfield and Haringey area

About Bounds Green Food Bank: 

Open since June 2020, we serve over 1,500 children and adults in the community. We are committed to improving lives by providing food and essential household items to build a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow. We strive to promote social inclusion by supporting people who find themselves in a crisis situation where they need assistance to feed themselves and their families.

Requirements:

• A driver's license and your own vehicle

• WhatsApp, as this is how deliveries are organised

The role: 

• Each week a timetable showing scheduled food donations by local stores and businesses is posted on the volunteer drivers’ WhatsApp group

• Drivers indicate to the group that they are able to make a particular collection, adding their name to the schedule (this is editable by all chat members)

• Once collected, the donation will need to be delivered either to the hall or to a nearby storage facility according to instructions

• The food bank also makes up parcels for guests unable to access the hall in person. Drivers collect from the hall and deliver  to guests, all of whom live within the surrounding area

Food Service Volunteers

Enthusiastic, hands-on volunteers needed to help provide food to the community. A key role, you will work at the main hub of the food bank and help the food service run as smoothly as possible. An exciting opportunity to make a real, immediate impact to those in need of support. 

Hours: Thursdays, a range of shifts from 9:30am - 6pm

Book shifts to suit your own schedule! No requirement to sign up for the same shift each Thursday or to volunteer consecutive weeks.

Location: St Michaels Church Hall, 37 Bounds Green Rd, London, N22 8SD

About Bounds Green Food Bank: 

Open since June 2020, we serve over 1,500 children and adults in the community. Person specification: 

• Aged 18 or above

• Have a basic understanding of spoken English

• Available on Thursdays 

• Able to travel at your own expense (no parking is available)

• Patient and flexible - you will help on different sections on each shift and may need to switch during shifts too

• A team player - the food bank is run completely by volunteers, so we require enthusiasm and cooperation

• Willing to attend training - The Orientation Tour is required before you join us, but other training may be offered.

• Understands and is sensitive to the challenges and difficulties faced by guests accessing the food bank e.g. food and fuel poverty, feelings of shame and embarrassment, language barriers.

The role: 

• Take in deliveries and count stock at the start and end of the day (depending on your shift time)

• Help with setting up the food service, including getting food out of storage and onto the service tables, decanting and repacking items and replenishing goods when needed. 

• Warmly welcome guests, serving them the number of items advised by Section Leads and Food Service Coordinators during each shift. 

• Follow food bank policies including Health and Safety procedures e.g. wearing gloves when handling fresh food and lifting boxes safely. 

• Keep the hall safe throughout the food service e.g. tidying away boxes and keeping walkways clear.

Did you know it costs £102,000 to raise, train, and support a guide dog from birth to retirement.

We have a range of roles from being a group member, to taking on a lead role such as Group Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator, Treasurer, Merchandise Coordinator or Collection Box Coordinator.
