Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.
Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.
We’re looking for volunteers who are:

Volunteering in one of our Sense Shops will involve a variety of tasks that you can get involved with. These include:
- Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
- Receiving donated goods from members of the public
- Processing sales and serving on the till
- Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
- Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
- Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

It’s all about making sure that the shop’s running smoothly, it looks good and there’s money being made. You’ll also be opening and closing the shop and completing the banking and shop admin as well as stock handling and managing our security processes. So, it really is a role where you’ll get loads of retail management experience.

Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference.
We need you to lead the shop volunteer team when the manager’s not in work to make sure our customers are getting the best shopping experience possible. It’s all about making sure that the shop’s running smoothly, it looks good and there’s money being made. You’ll also be opening and closing the shop and completing the banking and shop admin as well as stock handling and managing our security processes. So, it really is a role where you’ll get loads of retail management experience.

Electrical Items Tester Volunteer -New Volunteer Oppportunity in Acorn's Children's Hospice Superstore - opening soon in Tewkesbury!
Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Electrical Items Tester Volunteers support by making sure that all our donated electrical items are fully functional and safe for sale. Full training will be provided and ongoing support will be given for this hands-on position.
How much time will it take?
Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too), 9am to 5pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week. Swan Lifeline is the oldest registered charity devoted entirely to the care of sick and injured swans in the Thames Valley and surrounding areas, and has cared for over 30,000 sick and injured swans. Our aims are to RESCUE, REHABILITATE and RELEASE injured birds, providing shelter and treatment for up to 180 at a time, returning them to the wild as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities
1. General Administrative Support:
· Taking rescue calls and dispatching rescuers
· Managing general public enquiries
· Volunteer scheduling – via a rota
· Managing vehicle records, booking MOT’s, Insurance.
· Managing rescue statistics.
· Maintaining and improving (eg: digitise) office systems (eg: filing).
2. Programme Support:
· Scheduling outreach sessions and liaising with external community groups.
· Assist in booking other individuals (eg: work experience) and groups (eg: schools) for visits to Swan Lifeline and build calendar of events.
3. Financial and Fundraising Administration:
· Assist with basic financial tasks eg: invoices, and expenses.
