Outdoor Learning Volunteer Officers are a key part of our team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre and are involved in:
- Supporting and leading environmental activities with young people and the local community.
- Planning and preparing sessions - and sometimes even developing new activities to help young people connect with nature.
- You will be trained and supported by experienced project staff and work as part of a team with paid staff, trainees and other Volunteers.

Typical activities for the Outdoor Learning Volunteer role include:
- Running environmental education sessions for school visits during term time.
- Running play activities for groups of children and young people during the school holidays.
- Keeping education day resources up to date and developing new resources, activities or materials as required.
- Helping with the general running of the centre and the project, including both development work and routine maintenance to ensure we are an inspiring location for visitors to experience nature.

At Childline we are actively recruiting new Volunteers. 

What will I be doing?

• Your shift will consist of 3hrs30mns counselling, sandwiched between a 15mns brief before your shift and a 30mns debrief post shift. This is to ensure that you can start and finish your shift with any support you require from your Practitioners.
• On shift you will take contacts from Young People who rely on the service that Childline offers. Childline is not there to solve problems, we are a listening service for Young People and in each contact your role is to engage the Young Person, explore their situation and to support them in deciding their next steps.
• The contacts you would take from Young People can come in 3 ways. Traditional phone call contacts, live chats via instant response typed messaging or less commonly via 'PIBS' which are essentially emails sent by Young People in the knowledge the response will not be 'live' and instant.

What impact will this have?

• Childline is a unique service, valued greatly by the Young People who contact us.
• It provides a safe place for Young People to talk confidentially to our Volunteer Counsellors, an option that many of them do not have elsewhere.
• Young People rely on us being there for them 24/7. In an average month, Childline London takes approx. 1,500 live chats, 900 voice calls and 300 PIBs.
• However, the demand for the service often outstrips the supply as Young People who desperately need our service cannot always get through.
• That is why we are actively recruiting new Volunteers to be able to meet the need of all Young People who are in distress and need the support that Childline provides.

Training

• Childline offers a full 12 week online training programme to new Volunteers. This consists of one 4 hour session per week.
• During the training, you will meet other Volunteers in your cohort and have access to your 2 dedicated Childline Trainers.
• As part of the training, you will also go in person to the London Base for observation and mentored shifts which give you a face to face insight into how the Counselling Room works.
• You will also have access to a dedicated Volunteer Engagement Lead to give you a London Base tour (optional) and generally be on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have - big or small, if they matter to you they matter because you are giving your time to volunteer and Childline wants to offer you every level of support.
• Once you pass through training and become a qualified Childline Volunteer Counsellor, the development opportunities do not stop there. You will have access to a multitude of mandatory and optional training courses that are accredited and 100% free to all Volunteers.

Background to the charity
Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is a local charity formed in March 2017. We are a small and growing charity, whose volunteers and supporters have come together to welcome and help support the refugees who have fled the fighting and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine, and are now resettling in our community.
Starting with just one refugee family, we have expanded our efforts over the years and are proud to have supported about 50 families as they settle and rebuild their lives in our community.
Purpose of Role:
Would you like to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of refugee families as they settle into life in Britain—supporting them to achieve independence and integrate confidently into their new communities?
As a member of the SWR Voluntary Leadership Team (VLT), you will contribute to the effective delivery of core services for refugees and help support and coordinate our valued volunteers.
Our work spans general support with settling in, integration, building independence, language learning, educational guidance, and assistance in accessing suitable employment. In this role, you’ll work closely with other VLT members, with a particular focus on the general support function, collaborating with volunteer teams and ensuring they are well-informed, resourced, and confident in providing person-centred support.
This is a chance to contribute meaningfully within a growing, well-regarded charity, alongside a dedicated and compassionate team of volunteers who share your passion for helping others.
Key Responsibilities:
● Support communication between lead volunteers and central SWR services to help source equipment or assistance for families.
● Help oversee the changing needs of families, recognising that support levels will gradually reduce as independence builds.
● Collaborate with local authority support workers where families are still receiving formal assistance.
● Assist in developing and tracking Path to Independence Plans for families.
● Liaise with team leads across Education, Language, and Employment functions.
● Keep the Volunteer Lead and wider VLT informed as appropriate.
Skills & Qualities Needed
You should be:
● Compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental
● A good communicator, both in writing and in person
● Organised, with strong attention to detail
● Flexible and culturally sensitive to varying family needs
● Reasonably confident with IT tools (email, shared files, online forms, etc.)
Experience in teaching, social care, or charity work is useful, but not essential. A genuine interest in helping others and working collaboratively is most important.
Support & Training Provided
All SWR volunteers are expected to complete an induction, including mandatory safeguarding training. We also provide training on cultural awareness to help volunteers support families sensitively and effectively.

The Supporting Chapter Manager provides support to Chapter that are deemed to be struggling. They should assess chapters frequently to ensure they have a clear awareness of what a chapter requires support, in addition to input from other Trustees. They will then provide hands on support to the struggling chapters with focus on recruitment, events and costumes.

To telephone befriendees at their home for approximately 10 to 30 minutes, you will arrange the specific times of your future calls directly with them. These calls are intended to occur once a week, but individual needs will be matched with your availability.To provide a telephone conversation, a listening ear and chat about interests and hobbies, helping to alleviate loneliness and feelings of isolation. To provide companionship and human interaction at a time when this may be limited. To provide an update after each call to the Telephone Befriending support Team. This is so we can keep a track of the amount of befriending calls each volunteer is undertaking, the type of support being offered during these calls and if there is anything further required.

It is important to note telephone befriending is not counselling or therapy and other services must be sought if this is required.

About the Organisation

I am Somebody’s Child Soldier (IAMSCS) is dedicated to empowering and advocating for the rights of rescued child soldiers and child victims of war suffering from post war trauma and financial instability and displacement from education system.

Our focus is on providing access to mental health, rehabilitation programs, sustainable livelihood initiatives, as well as education opportunities to children, young people and people with disabilities within Northern Uganda.

About Us:

I am Somebody’s Child Soldier (IamSCS) works to empower war-affected individuals and populations through improved wellbeing and strengthened community inclusion. It does this through its current strategic goal of working with local communities in northern Uganda to enhance the lives of formerly abducted children and the communities they live in. With the specific objectives of improving the mental health of up to 1000 war-affected individuals, facilitating the creation of an environment that is conducive to the sustainable (re)integration of war-affected individuals, and supporting local government in northern Uganda to provide a clear prioritisation in addressing the needs of war-affected individuals. As part of its programme activities, IamSCS works with Laroo ADRA school in Gulu, northern Uganda to support its work with war-affected children. Many of the children attending this school come from impoverished backgrounds and have encountered extreme hardship in their lives with some being hearing-impaired as a result of their exposure to the Lord’s Resistance Army conflict.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Co-CEO to join our leadership team in a voluntary, part-time capacity. This role will work in partnership with the existing leadership and Board of Trustees to drive strategic growth, oversee project delivery, and strengthen organisational impact.

The Scope of leadership role is detailed below:

1)Project Support & Management:

Working with our Executive Assistant (EA) to ensure the successful delivery of our annual projects and making sure we are hitting the targets of each project. This could include:

• Ensuring the right number of partners/schools are onboarded.

• Ensuring we are meeting the predicted beneficiary numbers in the project application. • Ensuring we are meeting the predicted impact statistics.

• Supporting our EA when challenges arise.

• Deciding whether projects match with our organisation values and making key decisions whether to pursue 2nd round funding for projects.

• Writing and preparing post-project reports for funders, stakeholders and partners. • Collaborating with program director to design and implement scalable versions of our programmes – striving towards financial sustainability and increased impact.

2)Organisational Growth & Income Generation:

• Reviewing our 3-year strategic plan and identifying any new potential areas of expansion. • Leading the strategic growth of the organisation by 200%-400% over the first nine months– in terms of annual income and impact.

• Working towards financial sustainability for the organisation and its projects. • Identifying new grants/government tenders/corporate sponsorships that are relevant to our vision/mission and leading funding applications and project bids.

3)Team Management:

• Reporting into our Board of Trustees, keeping them up to date on our activities, policies and procedures.

• Line-managing our team and volunteers whilst supporting their projects as and when necessary or when challenges arise.

• Writing and managing our annual budgets – ensuring we are not overspending, flagging, and responding to financial risks as and when they appear.

• Leading recruitment activity as and when needed – recruiting new facilitators and volunteers when needed.

• Creating, applying, and updating our policies, ensuring our HR processes, safeguarding and other vital policies are robust.

• Having monthly meetings with our Trustee Board and actioning suggested changes to our projects/programmes made by the Board.

4)Growing our Network & Reach:

• Growing our relationships and networks of schools/local authorities/youth organisations to increase our work inside and outside of Uganda – identifying target areas to focus. • Using these networks to pilot and scale new/national interventions.

• Growing our relationships with local councils in Uganda and the UK.

Zambia Orphans Aid UK (ZOA-UK) is looking for part-time volunteers to support our Digital & Communications work. The ideal candidates will have passion for all things digital and an interest in international development. We are seeking people who have good digital understanding, a flare for design and experience of creating social media content across a range of platforms.

You will possess a positive attitude together with a proactive approach to problem solving. You will be home-based and have the freedom to set your own hours, so self-motivation is essential.

Volunteers support ZOA-UK’s communications and digital activities to increase the reach, profile and influence of the charity and build our brand as a leading charity supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Africa.
