You will join the UK Advocacy and Health Intelligence Department within the Chief Executive’s Directorate. The team is responsible for leading UK strategy development and delivery across advocacy (policy, public affairs, campaigning) and health intelligence, working closely with colleagues across the UK to ensure effective delivery of the strategy in each nation. The department sits in the Chief Executive’s Directorate to ensure driving positive change with and for people with arthritis is at the heart of the organisation.

The Department works closely with colleagues across the charity, including Services, Research and Income and Engagement to ensure we are joined up in our approach to arthritis.

About the role

You will lead and manage projects that support on the development and delivery of a pipeline of insightful Musculoskeletal (MSK) and health data analysis and quantitative research, to better understand the UK population with MSK conditions and to inform the direction of our ambitions, strategy, policy and services work. This includes obtaining, analysing, publishing and presenting MSK epidemiological and health data, and working with others to influence improved quality, coverage and use of MSK health data.

About you

If your knowledge, skills and experience include the following then we’d love to hear from you:

• Demonstrate sound knowledge of epidemiological research methods and health metrics (such as incidence and prevalence)
• Strong experience using of statistical software e.g. R, Stata, SPSS
• Strong experience using NHS and other national health-based datasets, and a good understanding of UK health and social care systems
• Experience of using multiple sets of health-related data and information systems, and large-scale data sets for policy, quality improvement or research purposes
• Experience of using data to improve the understanding of health inequalities and disparities for public health purposes
• Ability to interpret, present and communicate complex data in accessible lay terms, including producing data-rich reports for a range of technical and generalist audiences.
• Project management and organisational ability, including being able to prioritise activities and independently manage own workload that includes multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, and able to work in partnership with people at all levels, demonstrating strong skills in networking and influencing.
• Experience using data to produce infographics or data visualisation.

The Role

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

Driving Success in Our Charity Superstore

• Leading on visual merchandising and display to create a welcoming and inspiring shopping experience that reflects our brand and values.
• Ensuring efficient stock management and generation, so our shop floor is full of high-quality, desirable items that attract customers.
• Maintaining impeccable shop standards and ensuring the store layout supports both customer engagement and operational efficiency.
• Managing and being accountable for implementing and complying with agreed shop operating policy and standards including Health and Safety and Trading Standards.
• Building relationships and working closely with wider functions across the charity such as Facilities, Marketing, Volunteer, and social media teams to ensure the plans are fulfilled and executed.

Efficient Stock Management

• Oversee effective stockroom systems to ensure smooth processing and redistribution of donations, including identifying high-value or surplus stock for resale through online marketplaces or other Yorkshire Cancer Research stores.
• Conduct regular stocktakes to maintain accountability and efficiency.

Inspiring and developing a passionate team

• Recruiting, developing, and retaining talent, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
• Conducting regular performance development reviews for paid employees, implementing and supporting personal development and growth.
• Providing necessary training and resources, ensuring the shop is always adequately resourced and prepared to operate seamlessly, even in your absence.
• Having line manager responsibility for the shop management team, working together to ensure there is management and team cover and sufficient volunteers to operate all trading hours.
• Implementing appropriate training and support for all volunteers to ensure they adhere to all guidelines and legislation including Health and Safety and GDPR.
• Ensuring that all charity policies, shop standards and operating procedures are communicated effectively to all volunteers and are maintained and followed consistently.

 Delivering financial excellence

• Data-driven decision-making, using shop performance insights to inform strategies that maximise income and profitability.
• Accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes.
• All shop administration including cash handling and banking functions, ensuring the team work to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures.
• Reviewing weekly sales figures and from these identifying ways to maintain and maximise income, ensuring information is accessible to volunteers so they are kept up to date.
• Working with the Head of Retail and Finance team to set challenging sales budgets and stretch targets that are achievable or exceedable, and drive and motivate your team to achieve and exceed them.

Championing exceptional customer and supporter service

• You’ll create an environment where every supporter and customer feel valued, ensuring:
• Outstanding service across all touchpoints, from the shop floor to the till point, including seamless and secure payment processes.
• Any complaints are managed effectively and efficiently, escalating to Head Office where they cannot be resolved at a local level.

Building Connections and Driving Engagement

• You’ll act as a proactive ambassador for Yorkshire Cancer Research, generating support and income through:
• Engaging with the local community and businesses to secure donations, build partnerships, and promote the charity.
• Maximising the use of community spaces in-store, hosting events that align with our mission while driving additional income and fostering engagement.

Ensuring Compliance and Best Practices

• You’ll uphold the highest standards of compliance, ensuring adherence to Yorkshire Cancer Research policies in:
• Health and safety, safeguarding, and security.
• Administrative procedures and People management policies.

 

About You

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• To be educated to A Level or equivalent or have experience in a similar role at a similar level.

· To have experience of managing a large and diverse team of people/volunteers including recruitment and development.

· To have previous retail experience in the charity sector.

· To have previous experience with a high-volume Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) retailer is desirable.

· Experience of meeting and exceeding targets within a retail environment.

· Experience of opening a new shop is desirable.

· Experience in managing high-volume retail environments.

• Strong organisational and managerial skills with success in previous roles leading teams.

· A commercial mindset with proven profit and loss management.

· To be creative and forward thinking.

· To be to handle challenging situations with confidence and professionalism, finding solutions and maintaining composure under pressure.

· Confidence with technology, being able to adapt to new systems and processes to support the smooth running of Superstore operations.

Role Purpose
This is a key role to oversee RDA UK’s approach to safeguarding, supporting senior management and working with external partners. This is crucial to maintain good practice, resources, quality and support to RDA Groups which includes driving RDA safeguarding training.
In addition, this role will include support and administration for the Membership Services Team, as detailed below

Specific Responsibilities
1. To ensure RDA UK has effective safeguarding practices:

• develop and deliver the action plan and ongoing objectives from the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) audit/ Framework Plan and RDA Safeguarding Action Plan

• continuous review of all safeguarding materials and resources, to ensure RDA UK’s Safeguarding policy and statutory obligations and expectations are met, including relevant actions following BEF Safeguarding Action Team (SAT) meetings

• manage requests for guidance from the RDA UK network, including concerns raised and reporting

• provide safeguarding case management, collaborating with the Membership Services Manager.

• work in collaboration with the RDA UK Designated Safeguarding Lead and other relevant RDA UK staff and volunteers to plan, deliver and review projects that improve outcomes for children and adults at risk, within the RDA UK network

• provide advice to the RDA UK team and working groups on safeguarding best practice, policies and requirements, including specific projects or events

• deal promptly with enquiries from RDA Groups concerning policies, procedures and training requirements and respond to feedback received

• maintain the safeguarding content on the ‘MyRDA’ website, ensuring it is current, clear and relevant

• provide guidance to RDA Groups signposting them to resources for disclosure checks

• develop and maintain safeguarding training materials, and coordinate the delivery of regular accredited courses and workshops (both tutor led and e-learning), in conjunction with RDA UK Trainers and relevant external bodies

• developing, maintaining and administering Safeguarding courses and materials

• support the Designated Safeguarding Lead to compile reports for the RDA UK Board, including case management data and analysis, updates and recommendations

• act as the Safeguarding Officer at the RDA National Training Centre, the RDA National Championships and other key events

2. To provide administrative support to the Membership Services Team as required.

a) To undertake such other duties as the line manager shall from time to time determine

The health content editor plays a pivotal role in the creation and reviewing of our information portfolio. We’re looking for an organised and collaborative individual to project manage and edit individual information products, working alongside our team of subject matter experts.

You’re a clear communicator with the ability to break down complex medical information for a lay audience. You have excellent attention to detail and are committed to making health information accessible and accurate. You’ll be an experienced editor looking to put your skills and knowledge into practice. You’re someone who is used to juggling an array of projects and can manage and prioritise them.

About our Recovery Lounge Service

Our Recovery Lounges (formally known as Crisis Cafés) offer a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental environment between the hours of 5pm and 11pm. Service Users can attend without an appointment to help prevent them from entering periods of crisis or distress or if they are experiencing mental distress or crisis.

About the Role

Our Recovery Lounge Manager role in Bedfordshire involves coordinating a team of 8, across each site and ensuring the effective and safe delivery of the service working in conjunction with the NHS.

This will involve working with service users in a preventative way, deescalating crisis and leading a team of Mental Health Support Workers & volunteers. The role is part of a team within Mind BLMK and the Crisis Alternative Services.

Service Delivery

• Operate the Recovery Lounge service and ensure outcomes which supports individuals to deescalate crisis and develop strategies for recovery and increased wellbeing, in line with Mind BLMKs vision and values as well as contract requirements.
• Assessing need and suitability for the service in line with the access to services process, and undertaking 1:1s where needed.
• To manage a relationship with the mental health trust which ensures effectiveness of the crisis pathways for those who need further support.
• Work with the Recovery Lounge management to ensure regular involvement of service users, volunteers and staff on local service delivery, organisational matters and wider mental health and crisis care strategies
• Maintain an effective workforce for the service in line with Mind BLMK’s HR policies, procedures and guidance (recruitment, line management, workload planning, support and development of crisis workers, peer support workers and volunteers).
• Hold responsibility for health and safety, data collection and cash handling in line with Mind BLMK’s policies, procedures and guidance.
• Ensure cover at site is adequate at all times, this will require a hybrid nature of the role to assist with gaps.
