About the role 
We are recruiting for a Home Energy Advisor (Green Doctor).

Groundwork has an exciting opportunity within our Project Team for a Home Energy Advisor (Green Doctor). Our Green Doctor will support those in need across the region, engaging and offering practical support to people most at risk of fuel poverty, helping to make their homes more environmentally friendly and cheaper to run.

We are seeking someone who is a confident communicator who will engage with the community to deliver informal training and encouraging referrals to the Green Doctor programme.

This role requires a dynamic and dedicated person who can think on their feet, someone with a caring nature who has a strong desire for helping people and is passionate about making a difference. You will need to be highly organised and adaptable as no two days will be the same.

You will undertake assessments, fit practical energy saving measures and then offer energy saving advice to residents.

It’s a unique and challenging role that gives you the chance to make a difference to people’s lives every day.

Appropriate qualifications in energy efficiency would be useful but not vital as we will provide full in-job training for the successful candidates.

About the Role

As the External Affairs and Strategy Specialist, you will help shape Waythrough’s external influence, ensuring the organisation understands and responds to an increasingly complex political, policy and social environment. Working closely with senior leaders, you will support strategic decision-making, build key partnerships and drive campaigns and policy projects that create positive change for the people we support.

This is a home-based role with some travel required, including attendance at our joint All Party Parliamentary Group (five or six times per year), and service visits, team away days and wider meetings as required. . You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, particularly the Communications team, to ensure our external voice is informed, impactful and rooted in lived experience.

Key Duties

• Monitor and interpret political, policy and sector developments, identifying emerging risks, opportunities and trends.
• Build strong relationships across Waythrough to identify subject matter experts and ensure external positions are informed by operational and lived experience.
• Lead and coordinate elements of national campaigns, maintaining momentum and working collaboratively with Communications colleagues to maximise impact.
• Brief senior leaders on external affairs issues and provide high-quality research, papers and recommendations to support organisational decision-making.
• Represent Waythrough at parliamentary groups, policy alliances, external forums and partnership meetings.
• Develop policy submissions, consultation responses, speeches, presentations and campaign materials.
• Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, including parliamentarians, sector bodies and partner organisations.
• Ensure the voices of the people we support remain central to all advocacy, policy and campaign activity.

About You

You are a confident and proactive relationship builder who thrives in a complex and fast-moving environment. Working as part of a small team, and with support and coaching from the Director, you'll be comfortable seeking out expertise across the organisation, collaborating with a wide range of colleagues and influencing senior stakeholders.

You have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of politics and policy, and the confidence to work closely with directors and executive leaders. You can balance multiple priorities while maintaining focus on what matters most, and you are motivated by ensuring that campaigns, policy positions and external messages are genuinely informed by the experiences and voices of the people we support. The Gurkha Welfare Trust has supported Gurkha veterans and their families in Nepal for nearly 60 years. Gurkhas have served in the British Army for more than 200 years as soldiers of extraordinary courage, loyalty, and bravery. When their service ends, we make sure they are not forgotten. We deliver financial aid, medical support, clean water, education and housing through 21 Area Welfare Centres in Nepal and India, supported by a passionate UK fundraising team based in Salisbury.

The opportunity

This is a brilliant role for someone who thrives on variety. You will be at the heart of the Trust's community fundraising programme, supporting individuals and groups raising money on our behalf, managing our presence at events like Armed Forces Day and country shows, coordinating volunteers, and helping to grow a programme that is actively expanding its national reach.

It is a fixed-term maternity cover role of at least one year, with the option to extend. The team is experienced, ambitious and supportive and this is an exciting time to be joining, with a new strategy driving real growth.

What you'll be doing

• Supporting community fundraisers - individuals, groups and volunteers - with materials, guidance and stewardship
• Managing the Trust's attendance at appropriate third-party events including Armed Forces Day and country shows engaging with supporters
• Recruiting and coordinating volunteers, helping them champion the Trust in their local communities
• Working with the Communications team to promote community fundraising across digital and social channels
• Monitoring income, reporting on KPIs, and analysing fundraising activity against budget to improve results
• Helping to develop new initiatives and set up accessible sign-up processes

What we're looking for

• Excellent communication skills; warm, confident and clear, whether on the phone, in writing or face to face

In this role, you will provide culturally responsive assessments, counselling (both face-to-face and online), and group work for children and young people aged 8–24 from Black, mixed heritage and Global Majority backgrounds. You will create safe, inclusive spaces where young people feel heard, understood and supported to explore their wellbeing.

Alongside this, you will contribute to wider service delivery by supporting assessments and therapeutic interventions for young people from all backgrounds, helping ensure a flexible and responsive service. You will also play an active role in triaging referrals, working collaboratively across the CYP service to promote equitable and timely access to support.

A key part of the role is building meaningful relationships with Global Majority-led and community organisations, helping strengthen partnerships across the city. You’ll also share your expertise with colleagues, supporting inclusive practice, co-production, and equitable approaches to service design, recruitment and delivery.

You will have strong safeguarding knowledge, the ability to run groups or structured activities, and be able to communicate clearly and sensitively, both verbally and in writing.

You will have experience of supporting children and young people from mixed heritage or Global Majority backgrounds, with an understanding of the importance of culturally responsive practice. Knowledge of, or experience working alongside, local statutory and voluntary services will be important in helping young people access the support they need.

Above all, you will be able to work ethically and effectively with children and young people within a time-limited framework, building trust, promoting resilience, and supporting positive outcomes.
