Job Title: Strategic Legal Projects Manager
Organisation: Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA)
Duration: fixed term contract of 2 years, with possibility of extension depending on funding.
Location: Remote/Hybrid/London depending on working days (our anchor day is in London on a Tuesday, with occasional other travel within the UK)
Reports to: Director of Strategic Litigation and Advice
Annual leave: 25 days per annum, plus bank holidays, pro rata, and the week between Christmas and New Year off.
Salary: £33,000 to £38,000 per annum salary (actual salary for 2 days a week, £13,200 - £14,800), depending on skills and experience. NB: pension is 5% of salary
Working Hours: 14 hours per week, plus 1 hour lunch break (NB. evening working is required to attend 5 scheduled evening meetings per year, which ordinarily finish no later than 6.30pm).

About the Role
This is a new role which will be pivotal to the work of the Strategic Legal Projects Team. The post-holder will work with the Director of Strategic Litigation and Advice to coordinate the delivery of the Strategic Legal Fund (SLF). This is an innovative programme of grant funding, supporting strategic legal work that benefits people who are disadvantaged or discriminated against because of their immigration status. We define strategic litigation as work where the impact goes beyond an individual case and results in changes to law, policy and practice that will benefit a wider group of people. The fund supports pre-litigation research, and third-party interventions in cases before the courts, as well as advocacy related to the legal activities undertaken. Grants can be awarded to non-governmental organisations and law firms.
The post provides an opportunity to contribute strategically to supporting the legal sector working on migrants’ rights in the UK. You will gain experience of all aspects of the grant-making process in the intersection of legal and policy work on issues facing people seeking asylum, migrants and refugees in the UK today.
The ideal candidate may be someone wishing to develop a career in philanthropic work in this area or build relationships with esteemed human rights lawyers and social justice organisations. Whatever their interest, they will bring to the work a flair for organising, project management to include building relationships and supporting joint working and the vision to see the separate grants as part of a coherent whole.

Main Tasks:
· liaise with applicants including legal practitioners and organisations working with migrants across the UK;
· co-ordinate the meetings of an expert panel and decision-making panel;
· carry out financial due diligence checks in relation to potential grants;
· manage monitoring and evaluation, collecting reports from grantees and available data evidencing outcomes, and contributing to reports and updates for ILPA and for the funders;
· communicate updates and successes by grantees on the SLF website and on social media;
· build capacity of groups and individuals working in support of migrants’ rights, including working with the Legal Project Officer to ensure the work of the Strategic Legal Advice Committee (SLAC) and the SLF align and complement each other.
Person Specification
Essential
1. A proven record of project management or grant management;
2. Good working knowledge of the refugee and migrant sector in the UK;

About the ILPA Team
You would be joining a small team, of around 12 team members. Under our current hybrid work policy, we have one anchor day (currently a Tuesday), in London, together with team members living in England and Scotland. The role
You will provide high-quality legal advice and representation at IAA Level 2/3 or Solicitor standard. Your diverse casework will range from assisting sponsored workers on high-risk visas, to managing complex human rights cases and supporting victims of modern slavery and trafficking. Crucially, your work will not happen in isolation. World Cancer Research Fund champions the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity, so that we can empower people to make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.
We are seeking an inspiring, strategic and collaborative leader to shape and deliver WCRF’s Health Information and Support strategy across three core audiences: the general public, health professionals and cancer survivors. The team turns WCRF’s scientific evidence on cancer prevention and survival into practical, accessible information, training and support based on our Cancer Prevention Recommendations. The postholder will lead and develop the team, ensuring its work is innovative, evidence-based, high quality and demonstrably effective.
Working across Science, Policy, Fundraising, Communications and Engagement, you will create new ways to share our health information, improve existing resources and services, and build impactful partnerships. You will ensure that public and patient insight shapes our work from cancer prevention to survivorship, strengthen programmes for health professionals and make effective use of digital channels. Responsibilities include contributing to our Medical Education programme, participating in working and steering groups and speaking at national conferences, networking at events, engaging corporate audiences and acting as a spokesperson in broadcast and print media. The Senior Legal Counsel is the first port of call for colleagues putting together and advising on new legal arrangements and documenting our leading health partnerships and fundraising activities. The Senior Legal Counsel works with the Foundation’s Legal team in providing legal advice and guidance for the Foundation’s innovative, impact-led programmes and activities, supporting our fundraising team alongside our fundraising compliance manager, and our work with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. This role also assists with varied internal governance and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
Charitable Partnerships (Impact on Urban Health)
- Identify relevant legal and compliance considerations on projects and activities within the IoUH team and work with IoUH to put in place appropriate mechanisms or policies to manage issues that are identified.
- Structure and assist colleagues with drafting and negotiating agreements for a wide variety of charitable partnerships, including commercial contracts, grants, IP licences, novel investment models, revenue-sharing arrangements and data agreements.
- Act as a thought partner with the team to advise on the structuring, legal risks and strategic implications of partnerships and future opportunities.
- Maintain and appropriately file correspondence and documentation relating to commercial contracts.
Fundraising (Charities)

About the role
Coram Children’s Legal Centre is looking for a new Paralegal to join our dedicated, friendly and highly experienced Immigration & Asylum team.
The successful candidate will assist solicitors and senior caseworkers in providing legal advice and representation to primarily legal aid funded clients, including children and young people, parents, carers and others in relation to their immigration & asylum needs.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Associate Solicitor will conduct civil litigation in Britain and oversee cases in England and Wales. The role requires a qualified solicitor with experience of running litigious cases. We are seeking to expand our work in Britain to include civil discrimination claims, actions against the state, and media law work. The post-holder will have particular expertise in one or more of these areas. Our cases also involve data rights, freedom of information, charity law, education law, international humanitarian law, and defamation issues. The post holder will join a growing team that consists of a Senior Legal Officer, Legal Officer and a Junior Legal Officer. In addition, our British work team has an Advocacy and Communication Manager and two researchers who monitor anti-Palestinian repression. Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct civil litigation and advisory casework in Britain alongside our legal team and legal network. Provide expert legal advice and representation, to individual clients and movement partners.
- Provide training and feedback to junior legal staff as appropriate. Collaborate closely with our legal network of solicitors and counsel with the goal of strengthening the wider movement.
- Develop and advance new legal strategies for challenging state and non-state repression of advocacy for Palestine in consultation with our legal network, national partners and experts.
- Support the development of effective advocacy campaigns to increase the impact of litigation outside the courtroom.
- Support ELSC’s outreach and public engagement initiatives.
Required experience, knowledge and skills
- 3-5 years + post-qualified experience (PQE) and admitted to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.
- Experience leading on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters in civil litigation, particularly actions against the state, media and/or privacy law.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice on complex issues in a comprehensible and appropriate format.
- An ability to engage with the law critically and develop strategies that serve broader political objectives. Track record of collaborating well with other lawyers, academics and civil society organisations.
- Excellent client care skills, particularly in relation to vulnerable or marginalised clients.
- Experience in a role which requires coordination of multiple projects and/or workstreams concurrently, and the ability to manage relationships with partner organisations, coalitions and counsel.
- High level of English-language proficiency.
- Commitment to the Palestinian liberation and solidarity movement.
Desirable experience, skills and knowledge

As a key member of BSC’s Legal & Compliance team, this role would suit a lawyer with transactional experience, ideally with knowledge of funds, but who is also willing and able to support the wide variety of work covered by an in-house legal team. Key Responsibilities:
New Investments
- Participate in the due diligence process to ensure legal and regulatory issues around the structure of investments are understood and addressed.
