Key Responsibilities

Lead global programme strategy and innovation, aligning delivery to the organisation’s long-term framework and theory of change.

Oversee development and quality of programmes across the Global North and Global South, including partnership and new product development.

Strengthen MEAL capacity, data consistency and digitisation, using insights to drive quality, learning and continuous improvement.

Provide executive oversight of operational procedures, safeguarding, due diligence, governance and programmatic risk management.

Lead the global Policy and Research agenda; build relationships and represent the organisation in relevant forums and platforms.

Oversee global learning and training functions, developing prevention/awareness and internal/external training products.

Accountability for programme budgets and funding needs; support grants, reporting and donor engagement alongside fundraising colleagues.

Embed survivor-empowering approaches across programmes, policy, learning and external engagement.

The Candidate

Significant senior leadership experience within an international organisation, with a strong track record of scaling impact.

Strong experience of international programme leadership, including remote/multi-cultural teams and complex operating environments.

Expertise in MEAL and using data, research and learning agendas to improve programme quality and strategic decision-making.

Proven ability to influence policy and advocacy, including oversight/commissioning of research and engagement with senior stakeholders.

Strong financial and operational acumen, including budget oversight and managing grants from a programmatic perspective (compliance and reporting).

Confident communicator at Board and external senior stakeholder level; strong written and verbal skills, including public speaking.

Experience leading through risk and crisis management, with a diplomatic and collaborative approach.

Highly desirable: sector experience in modern slavery/human trafficking or closely aligned human rights fields.

Biodiversity Enhancement Ecologist – Scotland

We are looking for an ecologist to drive forward Biodiversity Enhancement potential in Scotland, helping to ensure this plays a part in bolstering Scotland’s ability to tackle the nature crisis. Sitting at the heart of our operational involvement with Biodiversity Enhancement, this role will help to ensure that Biodiversity Enhancement delivers bigger, better and more joined up nature restoration.  The post holder will work closely with SSEN Transmission and RSPB Scotland teams to find, assess and establish a pipeline of projects for delivery on RSPB Nature Reserves.

This is a 3-year post that can be based anywhere in Scotland and will involve travel across our Scottish reserves.

What's the role about?

The core responsibilities of this role are:

• Assessing on-reserve projects against SSEN Transmission’s Biodiversity Enhancement metric and RSPB Scotland’s existing ecological priorities
• Working closely with both organisations to develop suitable Biodiversity Enhancement projects that deliver priority nature conservation objectives, within the requirements of the Scottish planning system.
• Advising both organisations on ecological aspects of potential projects to maximise nature conservation benefit
• Developing Habitat Management Plans and evaluating the expected ecological performance of projects.
• Identifying habitat management revisions through observation and analysis of ongoing management.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Using net gain biodiversity metrics (ideally the SSEN metric) to design tangible habitat restoration projects, and knowledge of their application in a Scottish context.
• Use of UKHab (Phase 1, NVC also desirable) to carry out surveys on a broad range of habitat and species, to a consistent high standard.
• Developing habitat management plans to deliver ecological goals.
• Flexibility and solutions focused - a strong desire and ability to find a way forward when existing approaches aren’t working.
• Collaboration in multi-disciplinary project teams and the skills required to maintain and develop good relations across many stakeholders.
• Personal time management and prioritisation to meet project deadlines and external partner requirements.
• Record keeping and data management using databases/mapping software such as ArcGIS, QGIS and Merlin (RSPB bespoke system), plus standard ecological survey software.
• Written and verbal communication skills to compile metric toolkit assessments, habitat management and restoration plans, monitoring reports, conveying technical information verbally to stakeholders.
• Ability to confidently and safely access and work in remote areas across Scotland. A UK driving licence is essential, as many reserves are not served by public transport.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

• Experience of nature reserve management planning and design of wildlife habitat creation projects, with a good understanding of conservation land management techniques and constraints.
• Knowledge of Scottish designation, wildlife and environmental legislation and planning policy
• Design and delivery of habitat enhancement or restoration schemes

• This is a Fixed-Term 3 year, Full time role for 37.5 hours per week.

The Role:

• Lead and coordinate the closing process to ensure all entries are posted accurately and on time.
• Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and bank processes, ensuring seamless transaction processing.
• Monitor cash flow, review forecasts, and optimise liquidity.
• Support annual audit processes by liaising with external auditors and ensuring full compliance.
• Utilise accounting system to manage nominal codes and trial balances, while overseeing fixed assets, accruals, and prepayments.
• Foster a collaborative work environment and provide mentorship to the finance team.

Essentials:

• Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.

Key responsibilities

• Set up records and create case files on Salesforce for all legacy bequests received from solicitors and from notifications of bequests on the Smee and Ford website.
• Record the details of all legacy bequests in the case file on Salesforce.
• Set up a SharePoint folder for the notified legacy bequests.
• Upload all legacy documentation received into the legacy case files on salesforce and into the SharePoint folder.
• Respond to the solicitor or personal executor acknowledging the legacy bequest, thanking the next of kin on behalf of major giving and requesting any further documentation.
• Raise tasks on the salesforce legacy case files as a reminder to follow up with the solicitor or the personal executor as to the progress of the legacy administration.
• Correspond in a timely manner with solicitors and personal executors to enquire into progress of the legacy administration.
• Throughout the legacy administration process update the legacy case files with notes of the correspondence with the solicitor or personal executor.
• On receipt of the legacy income complete the documentation requested by the solicitor and close the legacy case file on Salesforce.
• Escalate any issues identified to the Finance Business Partner Income.
• Review the open legacy case files with the Finance Business Partner Income and follow up on actions raised.
• Highlight any improvements/enhancements to the legacy process to the Finance Business Partner Income.
