The Head of Research and Involvement is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering APF’s research and involvement ambitions. The role will lead thedelivery of our new research strategy, oversee APF’s research funding portfolio, and embed meaningful involvement of people affected by pulmonary fibrosis across the organisation’s work. The postholder will provide strategic leadership across research, involvement and external partnerships, strengthening APF’s influence within the UK and global research landscape.

This is a highly visible role, representing APF with researchers, clinicians, funders, industry partners and the third sector. As a member of APF’s Organisation Leadership Group, the Head of Research and Involvement will contribute to organisational leadership, supporting cross-team delivery of strategic priorities, organisational planning, risk management and continuous improvement.

Purpose of the role

To deliver the Day One Casework bedside model to patients, or those closest to them, impacted by serious or multiple injuries which could result in life changing consequences, such as disability or death, within Salford Northern Care Alliance, providing support on some of the wards (such as rehabilitation), on-site clinics and other settings (e.g. rehabilitation centres). 

Have a visible physical presence within the Trust, becoming embedded into clinical teams focussing on major trauma pathways, facilitating outpatient and in-person legal clinics.

To work closely with those impacted by serious and life-changing injury, taking referrals and carrying out initial assessments of need, expertly navigating, signposting and putting services in place in the immediate aftermath of major trauma, including talking about and facilitating timely access to legal support to aid rehabilitation.

To establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders to promote Day One and address the needs of those affected by serious and life-changing injury. 

To work as part of the wider Day One Service’s team and organisation, taking responsibility for own record keeping and data collection in line with regulatory requirements. 

Key responsibilites:

• Work closely, and in partnership, with NHS clinical staff and relevant community and voluntary sector organisations, to address the needs of patients, and those closest to them, affected by serious and life-changing injury. 

• Operate a case management approach to individuals, assessing and identifying needs, putting support in place including signposting, making referrals and direct support. 

• Provide consistency in assessment of all patients and their loved ones, irrespective of injury cause, age, status, giving access to the earliest possible specialist legal advice which supports rehabilitation and NHS cost recovery. 

• Maintain detailed case records, including accurate records of activity and intervention, using Day One’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, capturing and storing data in line with Day One policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. 

• Contributing towards report writing through the writing case studies and narrative to support data collection. 

• Implement processes and procedures to collect patient and family feedback and contribute to ongoing monitoring and evaluation of Day One services through providing relevant information, case studies and reports. 

• Deliver awareness raising presentations to clinical colleagues and departments. 

• Organise and facilitate outpatient and in person legal clinic drop-in sessions. 

• Build awareness of the role and charity’s purpose through building strong and effective relationships across the regional major trauma network, ensuring those who need it have access to Day One support. 

• Work closely with local authority, statutory and voluntary organisations to provide patient and family support and advocacy. 

• Help establish other support mechanisms once a person is no longer within the hospital setting, supporting the patient discharge process in conjunction with leadership from NHS staff. 

• Identify and support the recruitment and supervision of Day One volunteers, where appropriate. 

• Work closely in partnership with our Peer Support Service, focussed on promoting awareness and uptake within the region. 

• Work closely with the wider team on performance, quality, safety and effectiveness of all services, ensuring appropriate safeguarding policies are followed. 

• Work closely with our Fundraising and Communications team, supporting national activity, as well as regional initiatives to raise awareness and fundraise. 

• Be prepared to travel across the region and, on occasion, to other sites and national meetings as required. 

• Willingness to undertake continuous development and training for the role, including mandatory Day One and NHS Trust specific training. 

• Participate in external clinical supervision and monthly caseworker reflective practice to sessions to effectively explore and uphold professional boundaries within a safe, structure and supportive environment.

About the Role   

As our Financial Controller, you'll lead the day-to-day financial operations of the charity, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and efficient processes that support our mission. You'll oversee month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, providing clear insights to inform decision-making across the organisation. Working closely with colleagues throughout the charity, you'll manage grant and restricted fund reporting, support annual planning, drive continuous improvement in financial systems and processes, and lead a small finance team. About you 

We're looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA ,CIPFA or similar) with at least five years' post-qualification experience and a proven track record in senior finance or audit roles. You'll bring experience of charity finance, including grant management, restricted and unrestricted funds, and Charity SORP, alongside strong skills in Xero and Excel. Experience with Fathom and Raiser's Edge (or similar CRM/database systems) would be an advantage.

Our client operates a Superannuation Society which his both an occupational pension scheme and a Friendly Society run by our client.  The scheme has around 800 members including 164 active members and assets of around £115m. 

The post holder will provide administrative support to ensure that the scheme is run as effectively as possible.

The post holder will have responsibility for maintaining various governance materials including the business plan, risk register, trustee policies, conflicts register, trustee training logs and other documents. In addition, the post holder will play a key role in preparing the Scheme’s Own Risk Assessment and assist with the production of the scheme report and accounts.

Selling over 150,000 plants a year, Englefield is not only a thriving garden centre but also runs horticultural workshop programmes for the people with Learning Disabilities and Autism.

We currently have a rare and exciting opportunity available for a Stock Controller and Administrator to join our team at the Garden Centre. As part of this role you will be responsible is assisting with the successful day to day running of the garden centre by processing orders, serving customers, stock control, and being able to liaise with external company representatives. 

This role requires a very practical & hands on approach. You will be responsible for delivering excellent customer services, serving on the till, creating / receiving purchase orders, stock taking, being able to liaise with Suppliers and external company representatives and using our EPOS system.

Previous horticultural knowledge is essential within a similar setting.

The role includes leading the day-to-day running of the Resource Centre, ensuring a high-quality, person-centred service, and working collaboratively across the organisation. There is also scope to shape and grow the service, including developing new income opportunities and resources.  You will be line managing a small team of staff and volunteers.

This is primarily an office-based role with some travel across Surrey.

This role comes at a particularly important time for CBUK when the charity is looking to evolve and grow services, diversify into new areas, and raise significant funds for ongoing work. The Trusts & Grants Team are a vital part of the charity’s expansion into new areas, and the post-holder will have the opportunity to work with frontline staff to develop new projects and bids.

Main Responsibilities

Leadership

• Create timely and compelling bespoke proposals and applications to charitable and corporate trusts, Lotteries and Government bodies.
• Develop and deliver to donor care plans to provide excellent supporter care to trust funders; aim to involve supporters in the achievement of the Child Bereavement UK mission and maximise the value and longevity of their support – providing accurate and informative reports and invitations to project visits and events where appropriate.
• Support in the development of new case for support and project documents; work with front-line staff to develop new bids and budgets.
• Keep up to date with Child Bereavement UK’s work, key priorities and future plans to effectively match with supporters’ interests and identify opportunities for support.
• Contribute to the Trusts and Grants annual business planning process as well as monthly planning and budget reforecasting.
• Undertake rigorous identification of prospective grant funders and detailed research into strong leads (through desktop research and face to face/virtual networking).
• Work closely with colleagues in other areas of fundraising and other departments across the charity, as well as volunteers and supporters to build strong working relationships and maximise cross selling opportunities.
• Ensure the effective management of all relevant information, including maintaining accurate information for prospects and donors on the charity’s database (Sales Force).
• Utilise a range of internal work and planning tools to ensure bids are of a good quality, relationships are maintained, and internal stakeholders are included in any decisions.
• Develop personal knowledge of trust fundraising, including completing relevant training and regularly reviewing relevant press and publications from relevant organisations.

As the Challenge Events Fundraiser, you will manage the charity’s sporting, runs and challenges event places, working with the fundraisers to maximise income.

You will help shape and deliver our Challenge Events Fundraising strategy. You will develop new ways to engage supporters, review and improve our fundraising events, and make sure our activities are inclusive and impactful.

Main Responsibilities

• Be the main Child Bereavement UK sporting/race/challenge event contact, co-ordinating and managing all event activities with race organisers and participants.
• Manage and deliver fundraising Challenge events and from start to finish
• Work with the Challenge and Mass Programmes Manager to secure and liaise with volunteers for event attendance. Provide suitable volunteer requests and briefings and manage volunteers on event days.
• Assist in the development and implementation of Child Bereavement UK’s Challenge Events Fundraising strategy, embedding an audience-led approach to innovation
• Support the review of performance, opportunities, and help take action to leverage opportunities that maximise income, engagement, and brand exposure, and minimise risk.
• Contribute to driving innovation and identifying opportunities to grow income.
• Support the Special Events team and Regional Fundraising team on Child Bereavement UK events, promoting the events to Challenge Event participants and attending events as and when required.
• Put our supporters first by developing inclusive supporter journeys and materials.
• Present the work of Child Bereavement UK at individual fundraiser and community events, schools, conferences and other venues where a speaker is required. This includes giving informational presentations to audiences and accepting cheques and donations from fundraisers.
• Accurately input supporter information onto our database in accordance with the Data Protection Act, ensuring that all communications are up-to-date at all times.
• Work with Finance and Supporter Experience teams to ensure timely and accurate recording of donations and delivery of thank you letters.
• Regularly report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and support business planning.
• Prepare appropriate documents/policies in relation to fundraising at Child Bereavement UK as required.

About The Noah Jordan Foundation

The Noah Jordan Foundation is a fast-growing UK children’s charity established in memory of Noah, who died in 2024 from POLG mitochondrial disease, a rare and devastating paediatric mitochondrial disorder which can cause severe neurological deterioration and liver failure in children, and for which there is currently no effective treatment or cure.

Following Noah’s death, his family made him a promise: that his legacy would help change the future for children and families affected by mitochondrial disease.

The Foundation was established to deliver that promise through three charitable objectives:

Medical Research

Funding pioneering medical research to improve clinical management, accelerate the development of effective treatments and ultimately help drive progress towards cures for rare paediatric mitochondrial diseases, including POLG-related mitochondrial disorders.

Raising Awareness

Increasing awareness and understanding of mitochondrial disease amongst healthcare professionals, organisations and the wider public through campaigns, events, education and training.

Supporting Children and Families

Providing practical and emotional support to children and families affected by mitochondrial disease through information, resources, services and financial assistance where possible.

Since launching in September 2024, thanks to our incredible community, the Foundation has grown rapidly, raising more than £400,000 in just over 18 months.

• Fully funded a three-year medical research PhD programme into POLG mitochondrial disease at the Mitochondrial Research Group (MRG) at Newcastle University, under the guidance of one of the UK’s leading Professors of Paediatric Mitochondrial Medicine, who also serves as a Charity Medical Advisor to the Foundation.
• Supported affected children, families and organisations across the UK.

The Opportunity

The Noah Jordan Foundation is building towards becoming a nationally recognised force for change within paediatric mitochondrial disease research, awareness and family support.

As the Foundation’s first full-time employee, the Charity Manager will play a key role in shaping the future culture, structure and direction of the organisation.

Reporting directly to the Charity Director and working closely with the Board of Trustees, you will help develop organisational strategy, grow income, strengthen operations, build partnerships and support the long-term sustainability of the Foundation.
