For over 40 years, Being There, a medium sized charity, has provided practical, emotional and social support to those affected by life limiting illnesses across much of Greater Manchester. The services of the charity are delivered by an enthusiastic cohort of volunteers managed by an established and capable management team.

After steering Being There though the Pandemic and the recent economic impact on charities, our long serving CEO, Karen Mercer, is retiring. We are therefore looking to recruit a new leader for our team.

We are looking for someone who can:

· Understand and navigate the challenges of charity funding in difficult economic circumstances.

· Lead, motivate and develop the management team, administration staff and volunteers to expand the service.

· Raise the profile of the organisation.

· Seek out and develop relationships with similar organisations, client groups, existing and potential funders.

Summary of Role:

Join Muslim Aid as the Director of Operations to steer our strategic alignment and operational excellence across global initiatives. Reporting directly to the CEO and collaborating with senior directors, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our International Programmes, Income Generation and Marketing departments. This position is based in London and is a vital part of our mission to deliver impactful, efficient, and accountable operations worldwide.

About the Role:

1. Work alongside the CEO and senior leadership to craft and execute strategic plans, ensuring it aligns with our broader goals.
2. Prepare and present comprehensive operational reports at board meetings and committee meetings throughout the year, offering strategic insights and recommendations.
3. Oversee the management of the Head of International Programmes and Head of Income Generation and Marketing, ensuring strategies and operations align with overall goals of Muslim Aid. 
4. Oversee the operational budget, guaranteeing resources are distributed with efficiency and effectiveness to uphold strategic priorities.
5. Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and funding requirements, maintaining high standards of accountability.
6. Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness across all programmatic and departmental activities, implementing good practices and seeking opportunities for innovation and improvement.

About You:

1. Proven experience in a leadership role within the non-profit sector, preferably in an international context.
2. Experience in overseeing programmatic and income generation activities, demonstrating the ability to integrate these functions effectively.
3. Proven experience in successfully raising funds from diverse income streams such as grants, donations, sponsorships, events, and partnerships.
4. Experience in managing diverse teams and complex projects across multiple countries and contexts.
5. Proven experience in change management and driving organisational development initiatives.
6. Proven financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

NEF Summary:

At the National Energy Foundation, our team is forward thinking in its approach to home energy and uses its influence and projects to make meaningful change. Our primary focus is delivering projects aimed at alleviating fuel poverty and helping residents to feel warmer, healthier and more comfortable in their homes whilst also helping them cut the cost of their fuel bills. In the next five years, we will seek to help more than 170,000 households out of fuel poverty. Beyond this, we seek to encourage homeowners to make improvements to their homes to increase energy efficiency. To enable this, we deliver several projects aimed at encouraging retrofit of energy efficient heating systems into UK homes.

Job Role

The Finance Director will work with the CEO and the Finance team to collaboratively drive the development and delivery of the NEF’s strategic plans and budgets. The Finance Director will be a member of the NEF’s Senior Management Team (SMT) and will attend the quarterly Trustee Meetings.

Not only will the Finance Director take accountability for the day-to-day transaction processing, ably supported by an effective Finance Team of 3 people, they will take the lead on the budgeting, planning and analysis processes, developing a range of processes and reports to enable effective decision making.

The Finance Director will be the key contact for and work with the auditors, HMRC and other professional advisors and regulatory bodies to ensure that the organisation remains compliant and fulfils its legal responsibilities.

Management

o Manage the Finance function, providing leadership and support to the Finance Manager and their team of 2 analysts to ensure they are all able to carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.

o Provide strategic financial guidance to ensure that the NEF meets all its objectives.

o Contribute to the company’s overall business objectives and guide on financial strategy.

o Act as support and “Critical Friend” to the CEO, deputising for them where required.

Audit, Accounting & Reporting

o Take accountability for the production of timely and accurate financial reports, meeting the deadlines set by the CEO and the Trustees.

o Take accountability for all transaction processing including payroll, invoicing customers, and supplier invoice payments.

o Continually develop the reporting output to ensure that it meets the ever-changing requirements of the NEF and its Trustees.

o Be accountable for all finance systems, making recommendations for their development and implementing changes as necessary.

o Maintain relationships with the auditors, the banks, and other professional bodies.

o Work with the CEO and Trustees to compile and submit the Statutory Accounts and associated documentation.

Budgeting Planning & Analysis

o Working with the management team, set, monitor, and manage departmental and project

budgets.

o Develop and maintain a financial risk register to identify and mitigate against any potential financial challenges facing the NEF.

o Work closely with the Finance Manager and the COO in monitoring the financial performance of the projects and NEF central costs.

o Provide insightful analysis of any variances, making recommendations on how to maximise performance.

o Work with the Business Insight Lead to provide appropriate, timely and accurate information, advice and guidance to the CEO, the SMT and the Trustees.

o Agree the policy for reserves with the Trustees and monitor and maintain compliance to ensure the sustainability of the NEF.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen with a learning disability charity for a Business and Finance Director, on a full-time, permanent basis. We're offering you the opportunity to become the Director of Education of the British Institute of Radiology (BIR), an international membership organisation for everyone working in imaging, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences.

As Director of Education, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the educational direction of the BIR. It's a leadership position which involves overseeing the development of new initiatives, programmes and strategies to enhance the BIR’s educational offerings and outcomes, and the post-holder will be responsible for the strategic focus and financial performance of the BIR Education programme.

We're half way through our new five-year strategy, and the education team plays a key role in helping to ensure the BIR remains financially sustainable, offering education to more people, and helping expand the membership. Our new Director of Education will be experienced in developing and implementing successful education strategies at senior level, which will include new business development, income generation or building revenue streams, as well as experience of creating, managing and reporting on budgets.

We are looking for a Senior Policy Officer who, in effect, will be the Campaign’s Deputy Director. You will be involved in all aspects of the Campaign’s work.

You will work remotely initially with some face-to-face meetings in London.  You must be able work from a London office in future

Main Responsibilities:

•  Assist in developing strategy and other key aspects of the Campaign’s work

•  Conduct and oversee research into FOI topics

•  Monitor FOI developments and decisions of the Information Commissioner and tribunal

•  Assist in drafting amendments to relevant legislation

•  Help publicise the Campaign’s work via social media and the Campaign’s website

•  Promote the Campaign’s work to the written and broadcast media

•  Advise requesters and contribute to training courses

•  Assist with funding applications

•  Supervise volunteers

The salary and role are likely to be enhanced in future.

Person specification

• Familiarity with the FOI Act and case law – or proven ability to rapidly acquire detailed knowledge of complex legislation and case law

•  Relevant full-time work experience

•  Excellent judgement

•  Flexibility to respond to urgent developments/changing requirements

•  Live in or close to London

•  UK citizen or person with right to live and work in the UK

•  Proven writing skills

•  Social media experience
