More about the role:  As Senior Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for a broad range of key finance activities, from day-to-day financial operations and reporting through statutory compliance and cashflow management. Working closely with our small finance team and colleagues across the charity, you will provide the accurate, timely financial information needed to support effective planning, reporting and decision-making. This is a practical, hands-on role with real variety, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a growing charity.

Role Overview

The Assistant Finance Manager supports the Deputy CEO in delivering a high-quality finance function. Key Responsibilities

Financial Control and Governance

· Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the month-end timetable, ensuring deadlines are met.

· Review and assist with bank reconciliations and nominal ledger maintenance.

· Complete VAT, fixed asset accounting, and general ledger integrity.

Budgeting and Forecasting

Person Specification

Essential

· Part-qualified or newly qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Commercial Support and Governance, the role works alongside the Fundraising Supporter Services and Standards Manager, Retail Operations Manager and Retail Support & Projects Manager.
The Commercial Directorate incorporates Fundraising and Retail Operations alongside other Commercial activities such as the International Learning Academy at Sue Ryder. The role will focus predominantly on fundraising operations compliance and provide leadership and assurance guidance for other commercial operations.

You will lead the development and implementation of a compliance framework across all fundraising operations at Sue Ryder which includes, maintaining awareness of external legal and regulatory requirements, engaging stakeholders to review and update policies, work with subject matter experts to create compliance processes and training.
You will also build and maintain reporting and other mechanisms which clearly identify where assurance is available or where not, providing leaders with data to focus on improving compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the compliance framework, which includes creating an audit and assurance program for Fundraising, leading on audits where applicable.
• Review and update all compliance policies and procedures, recommending and gaining agreement with subject matter experts for appropriate review periods.
• Ensure adequate training resources are available for compliance related matters and ensure regular reporting to monitor compliance and inform managers.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Junior Data Protection Officer, to update data protection processes. Regularly review consent statements ensuring these are appropriate and standardised, managing third-party consent documentation.
• Review, advise and agree sign off with subject matter experts on fundraising materials sent out across Sue Ryder.

Essential Criteria:

• Expert knowledge of the CAP code, General Data Protection Regulation, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), Code of Fundraising Practice and other charity requirements set by the ICO, the Fundraising Regulator, Gambling Commission’s Licence Conditions and Code of Practice and HMRC Gift Aid Standards.
• Proven experience of creating and reviewing policies and guidance in a fundraising or retail environment.
• Experienced in implementing reporting mechanisms (SLA/KPIs) using multiple data sources and systems and internal and external audit processes and risk management.
• Understand and have experience of project management processes.
• Excellent teamwork, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills.
• Capable of managing competing priorities to meet business need, balancing risk and commercial benefit
• Able to manage time, plans, projects, and tasks effectively.

This is a senior, hands-on role combining charity finance with fundraising and income development. You will lead the finance function, strengthen controls and provide clear information to the CEO, trustees and senior managers.

You do not need to have held an identical combined role, but you must show strong charity finance expertise alongside credible fundraising and income-development experience.

Job Purpose:

• The Finance Continuous Improvement Manager will work with the finance function and key stakeholders within the organisation to identify, develop and implement improvement projects to ensure adequate systems and processes are in place to deliver the work of the finance function in the most efficient and effective way. Finance Business Partner – Corporate Services

They are seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to support the Corporate Services directorates, including functions such as HR, Finance and Governance. This is a hands-on role combining management accounting with commercial business partnering, requiring someone who is comfortable producing month-end accounts while providing financial insight to senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will be proactive, commercially minded and able to quickly add value within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate monthly management accounts, forecasts, budgets and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all reporting deadlines are met
• Partner with senior stakeholders to provide financial analysis, challenge performance and support strategic decision-making that delivers value for money
• Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and statutory returns, while maintaining strong financial controls 
• Develop financial models, analyse trends and identify opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency

Key Requirements

• Qualified Accountant experience in a Finance Business Partner and Management Accountant roles
• Previous experience within the housing sector ideal but not essential, with a strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting and management reporting
• Strong Excel skills with the ability to produce meaningful financial analysis and communicate complex information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence decisions and thrive in a fast-paced environment

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for the day-to-day financial administration of the Trust, ensuring accurate financial records, timely processing of income and expenditure, budget planning and development, monitoring, and compliance with charity accounting requirements.

You will work closely with the Head of Operations, Trustees and external advisers, supporting financial planning, audit requirements, and governance. The role also includes providing Clerk support to the Board of Trustees, including attending up to four evening meetings each year.
