About you
You will be a confident and approachable community engagement professional with strong digital and technology skills and the ability to make technology accessible to people with different levels of confidence, literacy, language and experience.
You will enjoy working directly with communities, sitting alongside people to solve practical problems, running groups and training, and finding culturally appropriate and creative ways to build digital confidence and independence. Through this work, you will identify common needs and help develop practical, culturally grounded training, resources and approaches that can be used more widely with communities.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
About you
You will be an experienced, approachable community-facing professional with a strong background in mental health, emotional wellbeing or psychosocial support and community engagement.

You will be confident facilitating groups and sensitive conversations, culturally aware and non-judgemental, with the judgement to provide appropriate early support while maintaining clear professional boundaries. You will be proactive, adaptable and able to develop creative approaches that respond to the different needs of communities.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join Happy Healthy You and help develop its community-based mental health and emotional wellbeing work and related activities, building on trusted relationships while creating new approaches and support shaped around what communities actually need.
Through working on the Bhip Programme, you will reach people and communities who may be less connected to existing mental health support, creating safe, culturally responsive ways to talk about mental health, build connection and access appropriate support. Working alongside communities and the wider Bhip team, you will help turn lived experience, stories and insight into better community responses, stronger pathways and practical changes to how mental health support works across Bradford.

Who we are
Nature is in crisis. People are destroying and consuming the natural world at a devastating rate, threatening the ecosystems on which all life depends. Birds are our early warning system, revealing the health of our planet and helping us understand the urgent action needed to protect it.
BirdLife International is the world’s largest partnership for nature conservation, bringing together 125 national organisations across six continents to protect birds, biodiversity and the natural systems that sustain life. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we work at the intersection of science, policy and community action to tackle the global nature and climate crises.

You will be practical and hands-on, equally comfortable coordinating physical activity, developing new community relationships, facilitating conversations and supporting people to become more involved as volunteers, champions and community leaders.
You will be culturally aware, proactive and creative, bringing new ideas about how physical activity and community engagement can reach different communities and people across the life course.
The Opportunity

Working with the wider Bhip team, you will help turn what communities experience and their insights into practical action and enable wider system change.
About you

You will be equally comfortable developing communications strategy and shaping Bhip.’s narrative as you are producing practical, accessible communications and resources needed by community engagement teams on the ground. Creativity and innovation will be important in shaping how Bhip communicates its purpose, work, learning and impact, alongside the strategic judgement to understand what needs to be communicated, why, to whom and through which channels.
You will be confident developing and evolving a communications strategy, identifying audiences, shaping messages, narratives and tone of voice, and considering how complex and sensitive issues are communicated.
Strong cultural awareness and understanding will be important, including an appreciation of how culture, language, identity and lived experience can shape how different communities understand and respond to information. The ability to adapt language and communications approaches so that information is clear, accessible, culturally relevant and meaningful, without losing context or nuance, will be central to the role.
The role will span communities, programme teams, partners and creative specialists, from photographers and videographers to designers, digital specialists and other creative partners. You will be able to listen, build relationships, understand different perspectives and use community insight to shape communications that connect with people. The Communications Lead will set the strategic communications direction for Bhip, shaping its narrative, language, messaging and voice, and ensuring communications support the programme’s wider ambitions to address health inequities, challenge structural racism and discrimination, strengthen community voice and influence meaningful system change.
With significant scope to shape the direction of communications, the role will span strategy, positioning, messaging, identity, campaigns, digital communications, creative content, media, storytelling and engagement. It will consider not only what Bhip communicates, but how it communicates it, ensuring language, stories and narratives are accessible, thoughtful, culturally relevant and reflective of the programme’s anti-racist and community-led approach
As Bhip develops through co-design, learning and evaluation, the communications strategy will evolve with it, creating opportunities to test new approaches, respond to emerging issues, share learning and strengthen the programme’s influence. The role will work across the programme and partnership to ensure communications are connected to the wider work of Bhip and contribute to its strategic ambitions.
With the freedom and responsibility to shape the communications direction of a five-year programme, you will help establish how Bhip communicates locally, regionally and nationally. The work will contribute not only to Bhip’s profile and impact across Bradford District, but to wider learning, influence and national conversations around health inequities, structural racism and discrimination through the National Lottery Community Fund’s National Collective.
About You
You will be an experienced insight, evaluation or research practitioner with strong analytical skills and a practical, community-focused approach to generating, analysing and using evidence.
You will be confident working directly with Global Majority communities and colleagues across REN and HHU, developing accessible methods, tools and resources to gather and make sense of qualitative, quantitative and lived-experience evidence. You will understand the importance of building evaluation and learning into community engagement and co-design from the outset.
You will bring professional curiosity, methodological integrity and sound judgement, able to identify patterns, question assumptions and communicate clearly what the evidence does and does not tell us, where evidence is limited and where further investigation is needed.
You will work closely with the Anti-Racism Strategic Lead and Bhip Programme Lead, providing robust analytical and evidence support while retaining professional objectivity and methodological responsibility for the underlying evidence. You will be confident reporting findings accurately, including where evidence is limited, contradictory or uncomfortable for REN, HHU or system partners, and will work collaboratively across the wider Bhip team to ensure evidence and learning are useful, accessible and acted upon.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to help build and shape the insight, evaluation and learning approach for an ambitious five-year programme, working across communities, organisations and systems to understand what is changing, what works, for whom, how and under what circumstances.
Bhip has a working Theory of Change and an emerging evaluation framework, logic model, and Global outcomes and data system, which will continue to evolve through learning. You will help operationalise these across the programme, developing and refining the practical methodologies, tools, measures and resources needed to generate and capture community insight, lived experience, programme activity and quantitative data consistently, ethically and meaningfully.
Working alongside the Anti-Racism Strategic Lead and with the Co-design Lead, Community Engagement team and Global Majority communities, you will develop and test culturally grounded, accessible and innovative ways of gathering evidence and understanding change. You will explore creative and participatory approaches that work for different communities, while ensuring the evidence remains robust and useful for analysis and Bhip’s wider evaluation requirements.
As Bhip develops, you will bring different forms of evidence together to identify patterns, test assumptions and evaluate emerging approaches and system-practice tests against Bhip’s Theory of Change, logic model and programme and organisational outcomes. You will provide analytical and evidence support to the Anti-Racism Strategic Lead, while working across the wider REN and HHU Bhip team to ensure evidence informs learning, accountability, programme development and system change.
You will help turn what we learn into accessible evidence, resources and learning for communities, Bhip colleagues, partners and decision-makers, ensuring communities can see how their insight was used, what action followed, what changed, what did not change and why and contributing to learning across Bradford and the National Collective.

Help lead the next chapter of an award-winning, volunteer-powered environmental charity
As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, Shrewsbury Food Hub is looking for an inclusive, practical and strategically minded Executive Director to lead us through the next phase of our development.
We have a simple vision: a community where food is valued and not wasted.
Founded in 2016, we rescue surplus food seven days a week from local suppliers and redistribute it through charities, community groups, schools and Foodshares. In the year to March 2026 alone, we rescued more than 270 tonnes of food, with our work reaching an estimated 4,000 people every week across Shrewsbury and the surrounding area.
We have also developed a growing programme of community cooking, bringing people together to build skills and confidence, share food and strengthen community – while ensuring that good food does not go to waste.
The opportunity
Shrewsbury Food Hub has grown significantly over the past decade. Our next Executive Director will help us build on that success while strengthening the foundations beneath it.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead an established and much-loved local charity through a period of organisational development: bringing greater clarity, focus, structure and resilience while protecting the energy, relationships and community spirit that make the Hub special.
The Board is committed to focusing increasingly on governance and delegating day-to-day leadership and management to the Executive Director. You will have the authority and responsibility to lead the organisation, work closely with our Senior Leadership Team and create the conditions in which staff and volunteers can perform at their best.
This is not a figurehead role. We need an Executive Director who can see the bigger picture, make difficult choices and turn strategy into practical action – someone equally comfortable around the Board table and spending time with the staff, volunteers and partners who make our work possible.
This role is largely based in Shrewsbury, with some home working possible. This is a strongly place-based role requiring a regular and visible on-site presence.
What you will lead
Working with the Board, staff, volunteers and partners, you will:
Please see the full Job Description and Person Specification for further details.
Who are we looking for?
You will bring successful senior leadership experience from a charity, social enterprise, public service or other purpose-led organisation, together with experience of shaping strategy, leading change and turning plans into results.
You will be financially astute, pragmatic and comfortable creating clarity in a busy organisation. Above all, you will be a genuine people leader: emotionally intelligent, approachable and able to build trust across a diverse community of staff, volunteers, trustees, founders and partners.
We don't expect our new Executive Director to be a specialist in everything. You may bring particular depth in operational and organisational leadership or in income generation, fundraising and external development. What matters is that you have credible experience of the other and the leadership ability to bring different expertise together.
Previous Executive Director experience is welcome, but is not essential.
Our values
We want our new Executive Director to share our commitment to reducing food waste and strengthening our community, and to lead in a way that reflects our values:
Passion – Accountability – Inclusiveness – Integrity – Caring – Resilience
These values shape not only what we do, but how we work together. We are looking for a leader who enables others to succeed, listens to different perspectives, acts with integrity and empathy, and remains purposeful and constructive through change.
Our ambitions remain firmly rooted in place. We believe there is significant potential to deepen our environmental and social impact across Shrewsbury and Shropshire, rather than becoming a national organisation.
How to apply:
Please submit your CV and a covering letter of no more than three pages, outlining your suitability for the role, by 5pm on Friday 25 September 2026.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit Shrewsbury Food Hub on Monday 5 October 2026, providing an opportunity to meet the team, see the Hub in action and gain a deeper understanding of the organisation ahead of formal interviews.
Shrewsbury Food Hub values the strength that comes from different experiences and perspectives. We welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process.
