Contract: Permanent, subject to a five-month probationary period
Hours: full-time, 28-35 hours per week. Youth Realities hosts a fortnightly 4-day working week policy.
Location: Hybrid working, with in-person requirements from Youth Realities’ office in Colindale (NW9 5XW) and attending events where required in London.
Salary: £46,800 - this is based on current resource and trustees are open to salary increases as funding becomes available.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the strategy to build philanthropic giving at EHAAT in consultation with the CEO, Executive Team, Trustees and Development Board, to support the charity’s objectives and long term aims.
• Deliver a fundraising plan across the Philanthropy & Partnerships team, including major giving, legacies, trusts and foundations and corporate partnerships, to achieve agreed strategic objectives.
• Provide excellent executive support and guidance to the Development Board and the Chair, and take a leading role in building the Board further by identifying and recruiting to its membership and the wider pool of Ambassadors.

About First Step Trust:

First Step Trust (FST) is a registered charity providing access to work experience and employment opportunities for people (referred to as workforce) with mental health challenges, learning disabilities, a history of offending and other socio-economic disadvantages, with a key aim to provide opportunities for people who are not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

The charity currently operates a garage and a catering business, both focused on providing real-life work experience for these learners. FST has over thirty years' experience as a provider of employability programmes and has successfully run the commercial aspects of the business, creating a solid balance sheet with healthy reserves.

In recent years, FST has been exploring new ways of helping people overcome barriers to learning including, low levels of literacy/numeracy and debilitating anxiety in formal situations e.g. exams or interviews.

Through FST's ground breaking work using Virtual Reality (VR) to upskill our workforce members and engage learners in secure mental health facilities, we have recognised the potential of assistive and emerging technologies as a real game-changer for the people we work with. The technology enables us to do things never before possible. We have, with the support of Halfords Autocentres and the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), developed an innovative programme which offers high quality training in a safe environment that does not require any written work.

This led us to identify the need for new ways of enabling and 'scaffolding' learning that will combat some of the wider psychosocial barriers including 'fear of learning', the impact of e.g. learning disabilities, Autism, negative peer pressure and reoffending behaviours. A recent Resolution Foundation report suggests that current "low rates of training among the least educated are troubling, given international evidence showing that there are higher returns to adult education for these individuals." Research suggests that AI/ machine learning could help us overcome these.

We have been supported by two Ufi VocTech Trust grants to deliver VR supported training to these communities of learners furthest away from learning and work. The route to market for our products is into the automotive industry directly, but is also being commissioned by NHS and criminal justice/mental health services as a way to introduce those in secure environments to potential future work opportunities.

These digital developments form part of the charity's strategy for embracing digital innovation to better serve our client base and grow the market we are able to serve beyond those in our local areas.

About the role: 

As the COO, you will support the CEO in executing their strategic plans and directives, while overseeing the efficacy of the organisation’s strategy and implementing changes needed for the growth and development of the organisation. Ultimately your purpose is to support the continued success and growth of the organisation through good management, communication and relationship-building, without compromising on our commitment to working with people who use our service as colleagues..

About you: 

You will be a senior manager who has energy and drive as well as sound judgement. As Senior Philanthropy Manager you will step into a newly created position in the team that will focus on creating and implementing a compelling major donor programme.

Your focus will be to inspire giving for investment in the Hall, including initiatives to improve accessibility and sustainability, as well as the Hall’s pioneering community engagement programme. As Senior Philanthropy Manager you will:

• create and deliver the major donor strategy focused on driving growth and income from HNWIs;

Hybrid working, 3-4dpw in Royal Albert Hall, Kensington office. This role will require occasional evening and weekend work in line with the Hall’s events programme, in particular those attended by your donors and prospects.

All parts of the Church will need to raise funds to implement this net zero plan. In 2024 and 2025, the Church of England is testing and piloting a range of approaches to help churches fundraise for projects. Our feasibility study identified that statutory sources of funding, currently under-accessed will be a new area of opportunity for churches, schools and housing to access.

The Giving Directorate is leading on the strategy to coordinate and support the plans being developed by our dioceses, churches, cathedrals, schools, and departments. In addition, The Giving Directorate and NetZero Programme Team will be engaging with funders at a national level to secure investment for projects.

Job Summary:

As Net Zero Carbon Statutory Fundraising Coordinator, you will work in The Giving Directorate and operate across the whole Church with a focus on supporting parishes and dioceses to access statutory funds. You will share your knowledge and insight to support with identifying, researching and applying to funding from a range of government sources. You will develop and maintain resources, guidance and training and help share best practice across the country, as well as working with regional fundraisers. The role:

Main responsibilities

• Develop a national plan to secure statutory funding at parish and diocesan level
• Acting as a central point of coordination between the schools, housing and parish fundraising workstreams to oversee statutory funding

To be successful, you will need experience of securing statutory funding for projects and of other aspects of fundraising. About this role

This role is an opportunity to participate in the global movement to protect the natural world; meeting and supporting incredible communities and organisations driving change to secure a sustainable future. • Manage some grantee partner relationships, including building trust and openness, identifying capacity needs, administrating grants, monitoring progress and fulfilling reporting requirements.
• Provide administrative support across the Programmes Team with grant management e.g. preparing of grant paperwork, reviewing partner reports and checklists (proposals), monitoring pipelines.
• Undertake research in focal areas for the Programmes Team, such as identifying intervention points and opportunities to make a difference in conservation.

Synchronicity Earth is a UK-based, global environmental charity which funds work that aims to make our planet a better place to live for all its inhabitants.

We are a medium-sized charity which supports partners working to protect less well-known species and ecosystems around the world that receive less attention but face the greatest threats. We do this through our Conservation Programmes, which identify, fund, and support organisations with a focus on: Amphibians, Asian Species, Congo Basin, Biocultural Diversity, Freshwater, and Ocean. We also support work across two other areas: the More than Carbon initiative, a portfolio of climate and biodiversity projects targeted at corporate donors; and the Synchronicity Portfolio, which aims to foster systemic change to promote a greater focus on biodiversity conservation within different sectors. Our partners are mostly organisations embedded within their local communities, and we often support work which also considers social impacts such as women’s health and empowerment, engagement with Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and sustainable livelihoods (e.g., small-scale fisheries) in addition to wildlife conservation.

Skills and experience required

Reporting, location, and work hours

This position is a permanent full-time position that is based in the Synchronicity Earth offices in Central London, with the option for hybrid office/home working if the successful applicant wishes with 2 days a week in the office (laptop would be provided for home working). The successful candidate must be already eligible to work in the UK.

Annual leave

25 days per year for a full-time position (in addition to public holidays), adjusted for part-time. We also run an employer-supported volunteering programme, where employees may take additional time-off (2 days per annum) to volunteer for community organisations and other charities (in accordance with our policy).

Review process: The application process will have three stages. Following anonymized review of applications, first-stage candidates (including qualifying GIS candidates) will either be invited to a short zoom call (about 20 minutes) or asked to complete a short assessment. We are looking for an experienced CEO or senior charity manager, able to manage the business functions of a charity that is just starting out. You will have a proven track record of managing a small, prosocial organisation and setting up the systems necessary for success. You will have skills to work strategically, have business management skills, be able to lead and grow a team and work relationally. 

As CEO an important goal will be to put the charity on a firm foundation for long-term sustainability. You will work with our fundraising consultant to ensure a steady income stream of core funding, ensuring financial stability for employees and building partnerships with local organisations to maximise impact and sustainability through collaborative work and partnership bids. This requires considerable, skilled networking and relationship-building, both within the Church’s Community Hub, with our existing partner VCFSE organisations and in the wider sector, including local Councils, PCNs and the ICB.

You will also be principally responsible for the organisation’s HR function, risk and compliance, as well as its monitoring and evaluation of impact (for quality assurance and fundraising purposes). This means ensuring best practice is observed and maintained in these and related areas, including line management, service policy, financial management, safeguarding and data privacy.
