About Us

The Almshouse Association is the national membership body representing almshouse charities across England and Wales and supporting the wider charitable housing sector. As part of this work, we support the Charity Housing Alliance (CHA), a growing network of charitable housing providers, housing trusts and not-for-profit housing organisations.

The Charity Housing Alliance works with members, partners and policymakers to raise awareness of the vital contribution charitable housing providers make to communities, while advocating for greater recognition and support for the sector.

Working closely with The Almshouse Association and Charity Housing Alliance leadership team, you'll play an important role in supporting membership engagement, communications, research and administration. Key Responsibilities

Membership Engagement & Development

• Respond to enquiries from members, stakeholders and supporters.

Communications & Awareness Raising

• Support the management of the Charity Housing Alliance website.
• Assist with social media activity and awareness campaigns.

Research & Policy Support

• Research policy, legislation and developments affecting charitable housing.
• Support the collection of case studies and sector insights.

Administration & Coordination

• Provide day-to-day administrative support.
• Organise meetings, events, webinars and stakeholder engagement activities.

About You

Essential

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence communicating via telephone, email and online platforms.

Our publicity team leaders have the important role of supporting a wider team of publicity volunteers. As a team our publicity volunteers collectively keep members of the public informed of the vital and varied ways we help our cats in need. Raising awareness is crucial to us being able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us. A higher profile can help raise funds, raise awareness of adopting a cat, promote neutering and encourage as many people as possible to learn about feline welfare.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Communicating with others including newsletter, social media and website volunteers
• Advising others on the content of newsletters and web posts
• Interacting with others to make sure information is positive, accurate and consistent
• Liaising with your volunteer group and our Head Office to organise media campaigns
• Responding to local media requests if required

Time expectation 

Our publicity team leaders usually spend 3 to 4 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you! 

What can I expect to be doing? 

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following: 

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with our fundraising events, attending supermarket collections or local markets. 

• Distributing collection tins – popping collection tins into local shops and pubs and collecting them when they’re full. 

• Bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life. 

• Engaging with your local branches and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team! 

What are the benefits to you and the cats? 

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge though Cats Protection’s learn online system, providing you with the skills to thrive as a fundraiser.  You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

How much time is expected of me? 

Our Fundraising Volunteer roles are very flexible, often certain times of the year are busier than others. You can choose your level of involvement to suit your schedule!

Support, guidance and keeping you safe 

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us. 

The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we encounter as part of our activities.

Volunteer Media correspondents (Campaigns) will be leading and supporting Centre for Big Synergy’s (CBS) SDG campaigns and events by capturing and sharing impactful stories and features across its communication channels, reaching millions.

What will you be doing?

Working closely with relevant campaigns or events team leadership and other volunteers of CBS, the Media Correspondents will interview members of public, campaign stakeholders, special guests, celebrities, leaders in policy, business and media , produce high‑quality audio‑visual content, and manage digital publications, helping to strengthen awareness, engagement, and visibility for our organisation’s mission and project outcomes.

Correspondents will play a key role in shaping and sharing the stories behind our sustainability initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

• Working alone or in pairs; introduce campaigns to stakeholders/public, research, plan, compose and execute interviews and features (text, audio, video as applicable) 
• Conducting interviews with project leads, community members, partners, special guests, advisors and beneficiaries; for public events, public engagement, award ceremonies, campaigns
• Recording high‑quality audio and video content in the field (public places) or remotely.
• Editing interviews and project footage into clear, engaging, and professional media outputs.
• Creating compelling written and visual content for social media, newsletters, and other organisational platforms.
• Managing the publication of content across our digital channels, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with our mission.
• Collaborating with multiple project teams, selecting assignments based on your availability and areas of interest.
• Maintaining organised media archives and ensuring all content adheres to ethical and brand guidelines.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a confident and capable media professional who brings:

• A minimum of three years’ experience in journalism, media production, communications, or a related field.
• Strong interviewing skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders respectfully and professionally.
• Proficiency in audio and video recording, editing software, and digital content creation.
• Excellent written communication skills and an eye for compelling storytelling.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and an understanding of how to tailor content for different audiences.
• The ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet agreed timelines.
• A genuine interest in sustainability, community development, and not‑for‑profit work.

Working with volunteers across the region, you will support activities such as producing newsletters, responding to information enquiries, or developing engaging content for regional social media.

Most importantly you’ll be helping us engage with lots of people and get the word out to people with MS about support to help them live their lives to the full.

This role is suitable for role sharing.  It would be most suitable for those based in Lincolnshire.

What we need from you

This is a highly flexible role, and you can choose how you’d like to get involved. Opportunities include:

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins
• Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
• Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
• Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection

Time commitment

This role is flexible and designed to fit around your other commitments. You’ll be part of a friendly team raising vital funds — and having fun along the way.

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between

You can expect us to

• make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

You’ll be:

· help set up and/or man stalls at events

· help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections

· help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances

· promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.
