Competencies

• Knowledge, empathy, understanding and proven ability to work creatively and engage homeless people whose alcohol/ drug misuse/ mental health/ complex trauma has had significant effect on their physical and mental health, social and coping skills .
• Ability to assess needs, risks (within a framework of positive risk taking) and develop user led support plans.
• Awareness of and ability to identify and address health and care issues with partners, especially substance misuse, mental health, dementia etc.
• Ability to respond to challenging behaviour in a safe way.
• Ability to develop successful professional relationships, working collaboratively with external and internal partners , sharing expertise and learning from colleagues in health, social care,probation and voluntary sector etc
• Knowledge of and commitment to service user involvement, self empowerment, equalities, diversity andservice improvement
• Basic understanding of the principals of delivering support within a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) and commitment to working within this model
• Robust knowledge and practical application of adult safeguarding requirements.
• Knowledge and understanding of Healthand Safety in a hostel setting, including dealing with emergencies and working alone.
• A good listener and communicator at all levels, including people with communication difficulties
• A good standard of literacy, numeracy, computer skills and the ability to write accurate and succinct reports.

Job Title: Housing Support Worker

Location: Brent. Step‑free access is available at our main office. However, due to the nature of the role, you may be required to visit homes and other buildings that do not provide step‑free access

Salary: £27,000

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday on a rota which can range between 08:00 - 16:00, 09:00 - 17:00 and 10:00 - 18:00. You may be required to work outside these hours dependent on service and participant requirements. 

About the Role

We're hiring a Housing Support Worker to join our floating support service which is based in Brent. The service supports adults who have been or are at risk of homelessness, have experienced social exclusion, have previous criminal convictions, suffer with their mental health, and substance misuse, and/or could have a learning disability. You will support participants on their journey towards recovery, reablement, and independence, all within a compassionate, trauma informed environment.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of delivering high quality, person centered support through tailored support plans which provide practical interventions, to empower our participants to overcome personal challenges, develop life skills, and achieve their personal goals. You will also work closely in partnership with various organisations to support the different needs of our participants, which may include signposting. Join us on the journey to empowering people to be the best versions of themselves! 

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Support participants will all aspects of their housing needs to support them ensure sustainable housing.
• Co-create tailored support plans which are centred towards the participants needs.
• Signpost participants with local providers to support with their independence such as with Job Centres, employment support hubs, community support centres, mental health trusts and other as relevant.
• Recognise support needs in an individual and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent further deterioration.
• Complete safeguarding and other referrals where required.

Salary: £29,000 – £32,000 per annum

Working hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week - hybrid role: can work up to 2 days from home by arrangement)

• Make referrals to hostels and supported housing

Support Workers will devise person centred support plans with customers to help them develop the life skills they require to meet their needs and goals. This will include sign posting them to the local drug and alcohol services to address substance misuse issues. They will work with customers to promote social inclusion and alongside other members of the team to promote independent living, encouraging customers to maximise their skills and choices.

Staff are expected to work 8 hours daily on a shift rota basis. This will include weekends.Shifts are 7.30am to 3.30pm and 2.00pm to 10pm.

What you'll do:

* Completing/supporting housing referrals as required, supporting customers with budgeting tools and providing support to customers in accessing any benefits or addressing any issues such as benefits.
* Building a relationship with the local borough and any key agencies. For example: no recourse to public funds teams, homelessness teams, community mental health teams etc.
* Support planning, including ward management liaison, medication profiles and medication reviews as required, identifying the goals and steps to support customers to manage their own support and risk and ensuring these are correctly documented within Look Ahead's paperwork.
* Proactively engaging in learning and development activities to increase knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis
* To stay up to date with regard to development and research in the mental health field, housing support and in welfare benefits
* To treat all information - both verbal and written - in accordance with Look Ahead's policy on confidentiality
* The ability to be self-servicing in the terms of computer/word processing is a requirement of this post. If the appropriate I.T. skills are not gained by the recruitment stage, appropriate training may be provided by Look Ahead
* Ensure Look Ahead Health and Safety policies and local protocols are always adhered to.
* Maintain records as required at the project under the direction of management.

Undertake key-working responsibilities for a caseload assigned by the Team Leader / Manager
Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs and potential risks and agree levels of support and actions
Create support/action plans for providing appropriate services based on the assessment and reflecting the services and resources available

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SMI Support Worker who will improve access, engagement and outcomes for Haringey residents living with Severe Mental Illness (SMI). The role strengthens pathways into community and statutory services, supports residents to navigate wellbeing and physical health offers, and works closely with the Haringey Wellbeing Network (HWN), Social Prescribing teams, and the SMI Health Check team. The postholder will provide targeted outreach, health literacy, and supported introductions to ensure residents receive the right support at the right time to improve mental health outcomes for those living with SMI across the borough.

This role offers the opportunity to be part of a successful national remote service, offering support via the phone or Zoom to affected adults in the UK. We are looking to recruit experienced Family Support professionals to provide these virtual support sessions to individual family members and sometimes groups. We are offering a number of roles at 15-20 hours per week, across 3-5 days, including Wednesday and at least 2 evenings per week (Mon-Wed).

Experience in supporting family members affected by someone else’s substance use is essential, as is experience with assessing and managing risk. Ideally, you would also have experience of working to support parents with their parenting and / or those experiencing domestic abuse. We offer fixed hours part time contracts within a friendly and supportive team. Solace provides safe refuge and move on accommodation to hundreds of women and children made homeless through domestic or sexual abuse. We run 19 refuges across London, including specialist refuge spaces for women with multiple needs. Of these, this role will involve working across three refuges in the borough of Haringey, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

About the Role

The primary role of a Family Support Worker is to provide effective, efficient, and supportive service to children and their mothers residing in refuge with Solace Women’s Aid. The staff member will lead on the development of a child and family-centered approach to work in the refuge. In so doing, they will:

• Develop and deliver a range of trauma-informed services to children and young people (0-16 years) and their mothers within the refuge and when they are resettled into the community
• Ensure the completion of comprehensive assessments of family needs and risk of families, ensuring an integrated approach with children and adult services (internal and external)
• Ensure ongoing development of age-appropriate children activities
• Promote ‘Integrated Working’ through internal and external mechanisms in partnership with colleagues and community partnerships
• Coordinate the delivery of activities through session staff, volunteers, and student placements

About You

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable children, young people, and/or families, as well as knowledge of the effects that domestic abuse can have on young people.

You will be familiar with Assessment, Action Planning, and Evaluation for families, with experience in maintaining records. You will also have the ability to work on your own initiative, as well as in partnership with other agencies or professionals, to promote family/child wellbeing.

If so, St Giles Trust is looking for a Floating Support Caseworker to join our team at our Lambeth project, which offers support to source and sustain accommodation for young adults aged 18-25 who have been homeless or have care experience. We provide support with life skills, benefits, ETE and all aspects of the pathways to resettlement.

About this key role

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, our Floating Support Caseworker will be expected to provide essential support, advice and advocacy to young people on accommodation-related needs, including homelessness prevention. You will produce support and risk management plans based on assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process, and ensure all monitoring information and evidence is being recorded and collated in line with agreed processes and procedures.

We will also count on you to deliver a holistic support service which will involve providing practical help that includes housing support, attending appointments, ETE guidance, benefits, budgeting, utilities and court attendance. Developing and maintaining relationships with partner agencies, including police, probation, children’s services and local authorities, is also a key aspect of this role, as is ensuring you close cases efficiently and positively.

• Experience of using support plans to enable young people to successfully access and sustain accommodation and support services
• Substantial experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and communicating needs to professionals
• Experience of working as part of a multi-agency team
• The ability to work with people who have multiple and complex needs
•  A knowledge of housing legislation for young people
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.
