We are looking for team members who can commit for a minimum of 10 weeks, with adaptable profiles and who have the enthusiasm and energy we need to provide support in various areas across the organisation.
In this generalist role, you will find yourself responsible for a variety of tasks, helping to ensure that both our programme activities and day-to-day operations run smoothly. Second Tree works in a transparent way, in a challenging and changeable situation in the field; therefore, an ability to learn quickly and be open to feedback is vital.
Your role would include:
The possible tasks included below are not exhaustive or rigidly defined; an exact role profile is dependent on the skill set of individual applicants. An average day might see you talking to students in a camp to tell them about a new class, or supporting the writing of a grant proposal. Tasks could loosely fall within 4 key areas:
Programmes
Supporting programme coordinators in maintaining the day to day running of their activities with the Youth or Adult Education Programmes
Supporting our children’s teachers or workshop facilitators in the planning or delivery of classes or excursions outside of camps
Communicating key messages about our programmes to our students in camps
Admin, Finance & Logistics
Supporting our management team in liaising with external partners
Maintaining organisation-wide financial processes
Coordinating the arrival and housing of incoming team members
Grants & Partnerships
Supporting in the identification of relevant grants
Supporting in grant writing activities
Communications & Fundraising
Contributing to the written/visual content of Second Tree’s social media output
Developing social media strategies to expand our reach and impact
Producing regular reports on performance
Maintaining our website
Supporting the planning and implementation of Second Tree’s fundraising initiatives, such as campaigns
Organising and maintaining regular communications with Second Tree’s donors (newsletters, thank you letters)
You should be able to:
Be accountable and efficient, making sure that tasks that you take up are completed on the agreed timeframe
Be honest and transparent, being able to give and receive feedback in the most straightforward way possible
Care for people; the interests of the people we work with should always be your first concern
Instil the values above in the people that work with you
Have keen problem-solving abilities, and a good understanding of what questions to ask, and when
Communicate in English, both written and orally
Learn quickly, managing a wide-ranging and intense workload
What do we offer?
A nurturing and collaborative working environment. We work hard to help our team members grow; investing in personal and professional development.
Accommodation in a shared house
Transportation to/from work
After completion of a three-month trial, if you commit long-term, a small monthly expenses refund
In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the shared houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the shared houses are full, this would allow us to offer an opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.
Looking for an internship?
If, because of your degree or for any other reason, you would like to have your period at Second Tree credited as an internship, just apply to the vacancy that you’re interested in and mention this. We have agreements with several universities across Europe, and in many other cases, these agreements can be developed on an ad hoc basis.
NOTE: If you require a visa to stay in Greece for the minimum ten-week commitment, please know that as a Greek NGO, we are unable to sponsor your visa.
We challenge the biases that make us see refugees as “the other”. We change the way society perceives refugees, and refugees perceive society.

Seeking a Chair/Co-Chair and a Treasurer
Are you passionate about helping children develop a love of reading?
We are looking for a Chair/Co-Chair and a Treasurer with Board level experience to support our small but mighty charity to bring the joy of reading to primary school children across the country.
Location: Online Salary: Voluntary with reasonable expenses reimbursed
Deadline for applications: 30th September 2026
About Us:
The Children’s Bookshow is a national charity that inspires children with a love of books and reading through an annual programme of inspiring theatre and digital performances and engaging creative workshops. We showcase some of the best authors and illustrators of children’s books from around the world, and celebrate children’s literature in translation.
We are an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation that has been running successfully for 24 years. Each year, we deliver 15 events in venues ranging from iconic theatres such as The Old Vic in London to community spaces and smaller scale theatres such as the New Wolsey in Ipswich, plus a programme of 60 creative workshops in primary schools. We target areas of high socio-economic deprivation, support environmental sustainability, and partner with local authorities, libraries and education providers. Every child who attends our theatre performances receives a free copy of the author’s book to take home and keep. This is integral to our offer - putting excellent books directly into the hands of children.
“Having Frank Cottrell-Boyce in for a free workshop really did make such a difference to our school and to our children. Frank was able to inspire every single child to write, no matter their need or ability, and children who would normally be reluctant to share their ideas in front of the class were confident to do so. Every single one of them went home talking non-stop about the amazing author they had met - with many now inspired to become authors. I can't put into words how grateful we are or how much of an impact those couple of hours have had on both the children and staff.” Teacher,Winyates Primary, Peterborough
The opportunities:
If you have the expertise and passion to support our work and help us to deliver the impact and change experienced by Winyates Primary, then we would love to hear from you!
Thanks to successful fundraising, The Children’s Bookshow is financially stable for the next two years. Iterative growth and continued financial sustainability are crucial for us to fulfill our aspirations for the future:
Give more primary school children the invaluable experience of a live author event at a local theatre.
Enable children to work creatively with a world class artist in their own classroom.
Increase book ownership by putting a free book into the hands of every child who attends one of our performances.
We are recruiting a Chair/Co-Chair and a Treasurer to join our Board of highly-skilled, committed and friendly Trustees to guide and support us in achieving these aims.
Chair/Co-Chair:
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Chair/Co-Chair to lead our Board of Trustees. You will work with our Board to ensure good governance, and act as a supportive, critical friend to our Senior Leadership team.
What You Will Do
Lead Board meetings and maintain focus on our core mission.
Support and guide our CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
Collaboratively with Trustees, ensure our charity complies with legal duties and Charity Commission regulations.

Feeding Britain is the charity established in 2015 to implement the recommendations of the All-Party Parliamentary Inquiry into Hunger in the United Kingdom. We are working toward a future where nobody in the UK goes hungry, through a combination of direct project delivery, the allocation of grants to local partner organisations, and through our parliamentary links which enable us to provide policy recommendations based on the findings of our own Academic Advisory Group.
Feeding Britain is radically reforming the role, characteristics, and functions of community food provision across the UK through the establishment and development of Affordable Food Clubs which offer beneficiaries attainable pathways from poverty with a reduced risk of depending on emergency food parcels.
Expansion has been rapid: we are soon to establish our 150th local Feeding Britain partnership. In late 2023 we were selected as one of three Christmas Appeal charities by The Times & Sunday Times, in 2025 we were chosen as The Old Vic’s Christmas fundraising charity partner, and in 2026 we announced a long-term partnership with Gordon Ramsay. This is in addition to our Nourish The Nation partnership with Comic Relief and Sainsbury’s.
We are expanding our trustee board and seek a recruit with interest and expertise in finance and/or risk management, to serve as the trustee lead to oversee this aspect of our work. In addition, candidates should have a strong empathy towards our mission to tackle food poverty in innovative and creative ways. The broad duties of a trustee are outlined in Charity Commission website guidance, The essential trustee: what you need to know, what you need to do.
Role Description
The Trustee will take on the functions of an Honorary Treasurer, in monitoring the financial administration of the charity and, alongside the Finance Director, reporting to the board of trustees at regular intervals on its state of financial health.
Responsibilities may include:
· Leading in the board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements
· Leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost‐management and investment policies, as well as financial control and risk-management procedures alongside sound budgetary and accounting practices
· Liaising, where applicable, with the appropriate member of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation
· Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity
· Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan
· Acting as a counter signatory on charity cheques and important applications to funders
· Board‐level liaison with the external auditors on specific issues such as the Auditors’ Management Letter and the related board representations.
Essential Person Specifications:
· Current knowledge of accountancy, auditing, bookkeeping and financial management practices
· Strategic financial planning, forecasting, and reporting skills
· The ability to present and communicate financial information in an accessible way
· An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a trustee
· A commitment to devote the necessary time to prepare for, attend and contribute meaningfully at trustee meetings
Thank you for your consideration.
If you would like to be considered for this role, please submit by Friday 4th September 2026 a current CV and a maximum two-sided covering letter detailing why you feel you are a perfect fit for this role, including examples of how your experience demonstrates how you can support our work.

Become Treasurer of Bristol Historic Buildings Trust - help put a Grade I landmark on a sustainable footing
Bristol Historic Buildings Trust (BHBT) is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board as we bring Ashton Court Mansion back into full public life.
Ashton Court Mansion is a Grade I listed manor house with origins in the 14th century, set within an 850-acre estate on the edge of Bristol. Around three quarters of the building remains derelict. We are working with Bristol City Council to take a 125-year lease and regenerate the Mansion as a living civic place where heritage, creativity and public life meet.
This is a real moment of transition. We are already in the building under a tenancy at will, have refurbished the first rooms and begun taking event bookings. We are converting to a Charitable Community Benefit Society and preparing to launch a Community Share Offer shortly, raising community investment towards the lease and the first phase of works. Restoration of the whole building is a multi-decade, grant-led programme of significant scale.
Our vision is a building that works as a place of celebration, incubation and education, programmed around five areas: food, culture and arts, skills, nature and outdoors, and heritage.
The Treasurer will be central to how credibly we make that case.
What we are looking for
•A qualified accountant, or equivalent senior finance experience
•Confidence with charity finance, or solid general finance experience and the appetite to pick up the charity-specific parts with us
•Experience overseeing budgets, management accounts and cashflow in an organisation moving from small to substantially larger
•Comfort scrutinising a multi-year financial model and its assumptions, and explaining the numbers plainly to fellow trustees, funders and the public
•Ideally, exposure to community shares, social investment or capital fundraising - though this is not essential
What the role involves
•Leading Board-level financial oversight: budget approval, management accounts, annual accounts, reserves and risk
•Helping us stand behind the financial disclosures in our lease case and share offer documents
•4 quarterly board meetings per year (March, June, September, December), approx. 2 hours each, plus Finance and Audit Committee meetings
•An annual strategy day
•Terms of up to 3 years (renewable)
•The role is unremunerated; reasonable expenses are reimbursed
About us
We are committed to a Board that reflects the community we serve and the wider Bristol community, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
Our mission: to restore and operate Ashton Court Mansion through a mixed-use model combining conservation, community programming and commercial activity, sustained by a diversified income base of earned income, grants, donations and community investment.
How to apply
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you. Informal conversations welcome before applying.
Send a brief statement of suitability (up to 250 words) and your CV by 31 August 2026.

Chair of Trustees - The Family Place Foundation
We are recruiting a new Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and support the next stage of our charity’s development.
Location: Remote, with occasional in‑person trustee meetings (typically once or twice a year) held in the Clyro/Herefordshire area.
Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 days per month. This includes six trustee meetings a year, occasional ad‑hoc discussions and light‑touch support between meetings (for example reviewing policies or responding to emails).
Remuneration: Voluntary role (reasonable expenses reimbursed)
About us
Established in 2020, we are a small, well-established charity with a strong grounding and a clear purpose. We raise funds to provide support to adopted, fostered and kinship care children and their families to improve emotional wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and reduce the impact of early trauma. In collaboration with leading UK practitioners, we support the delivery of a range of services providing essential therapeutic care and family support that isn’t covered by statutory funding. Services offered include Family Activity Days, Specialist Clinical Workshops, Advisory Consultations and Family Respite Camps. We also work to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children who cannot live with their birth families. We are a warm, committed team with a strong reputation for high‑quality support, clear governance, and genuine care for the families we serve.
To learn more about our work, please search online for “The Family Place Foundation”.
We are now seeking a Chair of Trustees to help guide the charity through its next stage of development, including shaping our emerging Family Foundations project, a significant new early‑years initiative for the charity, alongside our ongoing portfolio of funded projects delivered through our specialist partner. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated Board and a small operational support team who care deeply about the families we serve and the long‑term sustainability of the organisation.
The charity is currently led by a Board of four trustees, supported by two part‑time operational staff and a small group of volunteers.
As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensure effective governance, and help the charity continue enabling the delivery of high‑quality, trauma‑informed support. You will work closely with the trustees and operational colleagues to help shape strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the charity remains compliant, resilient, and focused on its mission. You will also play a key role in strengthening the charity’s governance and fundraising, which in turn enables the therapeutic delivery carried out by our specialist partner.
A supportive handover will be provided to ensure a smooth and confident transition into the role.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who brings:
Warmth, clarity and good judgement, with a balanced, proportionate approach to governance.
A genuine commitment to improving the lives of adopted, fostered and kinship care children and an understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by early trauma.
Confidence in chairing discussions, helping the Board reach clear, well‑considered decisions.
An understanding of good governance, including risk, safeguarding and compliance (or a willingness to learn).
The ability to work collaboratively with trustees and our small operational support team, offering encouragement and constructive challenge while supporting the charity’s governance and fundraising role, which enables the specialist delivery work carried out by our partner.
Strategic thinking, with the ability to help shape the charity’s direction and ensure long‑term sustainability.
Reliability, integrity and a calm, steady approach, keeping the charity’s purpose at the centre of decision‑making.
Meets the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity trustee, as set out by the Charity Commission.
Helpful but not essential:
Experience of chairing a board or committee
Experience in charity governance, education, social care, therapeutic work, or community leadership would be helpful, but we are open to a wide range of backgrounds.
Lived or professional experience related to adoption, fostering, trauma or family support.
What We Offer
A warm, committed Board, small operational support team and group of volunteers who work collaboratively and value clear communication.
A meaningful opportunity to shape the future of a small but growing charity with a strong reputation for high‑quality, trauma‑informed support.
Flexible time commitments that fit around work and family life.
A chance to make a tangible difference to adopted, fostered and kinship-care children and young people, and the families who care for them.
