We are seeking a Regional Assurance & Quality Lead to cover the Kent County. Would you be interested in helping St John Ambulance to provide high quality service in your local community? Could you actively promote and encourage consistent quality across all activities St John Ambulance delivers? If so, we need you. 

The Assurance & Quality team gathers information to evidence compliance with legislation, external regulatory requirements and SJA policies and processes. They work with colleagues across the charity to consistently monitor process and delivery against our agreed standards. At regional level, they are responsible for undertaking assurance and audit activities with the primary objective of producing evidence to support our ongoing regulatory compliance.

We are now looking to recruit a volunteer to manage the Assurance & Quality volunteer team in the region, providing clear guidance to enable the team to support their district teams and to actively promote Quality & Assurance good practice.

At Heartwood House, we deliver full-time education for students experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA). Our, methodology places wellbeing at the core of students' education, focusing on mental health, personal growth, and positive social interactions alongside academic instruction.

Students have an inherent right to respectful and caring treatment, independent of behaviour or academic performance. As a trustee, you will help uphold and champion our policy of unconditional positive regard, the principle that everyone (staff or student) should always be treated with respect and dignity, no matter the situation.

Education takes place in small groups, with lessons tailored to each student's individual needs and interests. As a trustee, you will gain insight into a genuinely distinctive educational model, and your governance will directly support the staff who build meaningful relationships with every young person in our care.

All staff are invested in and actively participate in student wellbeing, integrating mental health support and personal growth throughout the day, not just in designated sessions. Trustees share responsibility for ensuring this holistic approach is protected and resourced appropriately.

We offer academic instruction from Entry Level to GCSE in subjects aligned with students' interests and future plans. Almost all students study English, Maths, Science, and Art at a minimum, with most pursuing additional subjects at the centre or online. As a trustee, you will help ensure the organisation remains financially and strategically positioned to continue delivering this flexible, student-centred curriculum.

A school governing body is made up of representatives from the school, the parents, the local authority and the local community.

What are we looking for?

You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a school governor. You must be over 18, but you don’t need to be a parent or have experience working in education. Often, it’s the outside perspective you can bring that a school needs.

Professional experience in areas such as HR, finance, law, or project management are all useful to a school. But soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem solving are also great additions.

What difference will you make?

Governors make decisions that affect schools for years to come. Our recent impact survey found that our volunteers bring £9.9 million worth of value to schools each year, and 9/10 volunteers would recommend being a governor to a friend. 

As a governor, you can visit the school to gain an understanding of the culture and ethos and to get the most out of the role. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet children, parents, and teachers, and see the impact of your work first-hand.

You will be helping your local community understand what a Read Easy group does; how local people can get the reading support they need; and how volunteers can help. There are two distinct forms of publicity, one requiring raising awareness by giving talks, putting up posters and talking to people generally about Read Easy. The second is using social media effectively to raise awareness and publicise your group. This role is commonly supported by other members of 
the team, with specific skills to offer.

How we will support you 
You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, policies, training/induction and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional and national forums which gives volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other 
groups. 

The skills you will need
● Knowledge and previous experience of publicity/marketing are an advantage.
● Good communication and people skills.
● Knowledge and ability to use social media effectively is useful for the role. 
● The confidence to promote the work of Read Easy and a strong commitment to improving the lives of people who struggle with reading. 
● Reasonable confidence in using IT.
● The ability to use initiative and work independently.
● A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures.
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team.

Volunteer Media correspondents (Campaigns) will be leading and supporting Centre for Big Synergy’s (CBS) SDG campaigns and events by capturing and sharing impactful stories and features across its communication channels, reaching millions.

What will you be doing?

Working closely with relevant campaigns or events team leadership and other volunteers of CBS, the Media Correspondents will interview members of public, campaign stakeholders, special guests, celebrities, leaders in policy, business and media , produce high‑quality audio‑visual content, and manage digital publications, helping to strengthen awareness, engagement, and visibility for our organisation’s mission and project outcomes.

Join Our Sussex Youth Leadership Bank Team We’re building a county‑wide bank of enthusiastic, committed adults who can offer flexible support to our youth groups across Sussex. Our groups typically meet for 2 hours on a weekday evening during term time, and support may be needed on different evenings depending on the group. Because our groups are spread across a wide geographic area, having access to a car and being able to drive is preferred to help you reach different locations when cover is required. This role will be line managed by the County Youth Lead, who will support you in your development and help coordinate your placements across the county.

As part of your application, please outline your general weekday availability so we can match you with groups that may need support. This opportunity supports youth groups across the whole county. Candidates will be interviewed as they apply until the vacancy is filled - so we encourage candidates to submit applications early.
