We are seeking a Legal Trustee to join our Board of Trustees at an exciting stage of growth. As we scale our programmes and deepen our impact in the UK and internationally, we are looking for an individual with strong legal expertise to support our governance, regulatory compliance, and strategic development.

If you have a legal background, this is an excellent opportunity to play a highly rewarding role in supporting our mission. The successful candidate will help ensure robust governance, provide legal insight on risk and compliance, and support the organisation to grow sustainably. Individuals are sought who have a strong empathy with our work and vision and share our values and commitment to social and racial justice.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Legal Trustee

LOCATION: Remote / 78 Coombe Road, New Malden, KT3 4QS

We usually hold board meetings online, but this is open to change.

COMMITMENT: 2 – 3 hours per month. We hold one annual away day we’d expect the board to attend.

Our Board meets every quarter for 2 hours. There is expected support between meetings. Our terms are capped at 3 years with potential for renewal for one additional term.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contribute to good governance and strategic decision-making, ensuring the Board fulfils its responsibilities in line with our constitution, governance framework, and applicable legislation.

• Provide legal insight and oversight on regulatory compliance, risk, and organisational development, ensuring alignment with relevant legal frameworks

• Support the Board in maintaining high standards of governance, accountability, and transparency

• Use your networks and influence to promote the charity’s mission, acting as an ambassador to build relationships with donors, partners, and advocates.

• Work collaboratively with fellow trustees and the Chair to maintain a supportive, ambitious, and effective governance environment.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• Demonstrable experience in a legal role (e.g. solicitor, barrister, in-house counsel).

• Understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to charities

• Interpersonal and relationship-building skills and comfortable in an ambassadorial role.

• Demonstrable communication and teamwork skills with proven ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.

• Able to make difficult evidence-based decisions, negotiate challenging conversations, and be able to balance competing interests

• Experience working or volunteering in diverse and cross-cultural environments.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience of charity law, regulatory compliance, or governance

• Lived experience of migration or of a refugee background is highly desirable.

• Korean speaker

• Be actively engaged in refugee and migrant rights, social change, and/or a related field

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Due to the nature of CNK’s work with people in vulnerable circumstances, including at times children, a DBS or criminal record check is required for this role, although a criminal record is not necessarily a barrier to working at CNK. 

• Candidates are required to commit a minimum of 2-3 hours per month to this role for at least one term of three years. 

• Charity trustee positions are unpaid voluntary roles. Any reasonable expenses will be reimbursed inline with CNK’s expenses policy.

The Role

We are seeking a proactive, confident, and relationship driven Volunteer Partnerships & Growth Manager to identify, approach, and onboard affiliate partners, collaborators, agents, and other supporters who can help expand the reach of the platform.

This role focuses on building a strong network of individuals and organisations who can introduce creators, promote campaigns, or otherwise support the growth of Influential Stars.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and approach potential affiliate partners, collaborators, agents, and networks

• Introduce individuals and organisations to the platform and explain how they can get involved

• Support onboarding of new collaborators and affiliates

• Build and maintain positive relationships with partners and introducers

• Encourage ongoing engagement and participation

• Maintain regular communication to nurture long term partnerships

• Coordinate with internal team members to ensure smooth onboarding

• Provide clear information about roles, expectations, and opportunities

• Maintain accurate records of outreach and partnerships using our CRM management system

• Represent the organisation professionally in all communications

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

• Experience in outreach, partnerships, business development, or relationship building

• Excellent customer service skills

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

• Confidence communicating by phone, email, and online platforms

• Strong networking ability and proactive approach

• Strong IT skills, including confident use of computer databases and standard office software (e.g. Word, Excel)

• Experience using a CRM or similar database system

• Highly organised with strong attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple contacts

• Professional, reliable, and personable manner

Desirable:

• Familiarity with HubSpot CRM (preferred but not essential as training will be provided)

• Experience in affiliate programmes, partnerships, or community building

• Based in London or Hertfordshire for occasional in person meetings (not essential)

MINDSET is building a new kind of men’s mental wellbeing and personal growth movement in the UK — one that speaks the language men actually respond to: doing, belonging, challenge, and shared purpose. We’re not clinical. We’re not corporate. We’re not another “sit in a circle and talk about your feelings” model. We create experiences that help men grow, connect, and rebuild confidence from the inside out.

And now, we’re looking for a Head of Volunteering to help build the people‑power behind this national movement.

What You’ll Lead

As our Head of Volunteering, you will:

• Build and lead MINDSET’s volunteer programme from the ground up

• Shape a warm, energetic, stigma‑free volunteer culture rooted in belonging and purpose

• Recruit, onboard, and support volunteers across the UK

• Create simple, clear processes that help volunteers thrive

• Ensure volunteers feel connected, appreciated, and part of the mission

• Work closely with programme leads to match volunteers to the right roles

• Help build a movement that changes the way men experience wellbeing in this country

Chair of Trustees role:

You will be chairing the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we have minimum representation required for decisions to be made, keeping the board aligned in decision-making, ensuring all minutes are recorded and that all decisions by trustees are made with the appropriate context provided.

This is a great opportunity to develop further governance skills and experience, and help steer an important charity in the right direction.

Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.

Who are we looking for?

• Previous chairing experience
• Relevant experience in any of the following financial management, HR, charities, fundraising, social prescribing, NHS, health inequalities (including deaf community), local authorities, marketing, business development, governance, strategy or legal
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
• Good, independent judgement
• The ability to challenge and ask questions
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership

NB: We are looking for both a Chair of Trustees and additional Trustees (particularly those with a finance background, but other functions are also welcome). If you are interested in a Trustee role instead of the Chair role, please mention this in your covering letter when applying. 

Both the Chair and Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

About Self Help UK

Self Help UK is a leading peer support organisation with over 40 years of experience in developing and delivering peer-led services. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities by embedding peer support principles into health and wellbeing initiatives. We have created a range of innovative programmes that help people living with cancer and other long-term health conditions to navigate challenges and take control of their health and wellbeing.

We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support on projects that make a real difference. These include national and local initiatives for the Deaf community, volunteer-led support for anyone affected by cancer, and prehabilitation services for those facing complex treatment. In 2026, we will collaborate with our Integrated Care System to improve health literacy and increase cancer screening uptake among underserved communities in Nottingham. Looking ahead, we are exploring a new direction to position Self Help UK as a holistic, person-centred support provider, embedding peer support and volunteer-led activity at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is to challenge health inequalities and enable people to feel confident, informed, and supported in shaping their own health journey.

Every day, we support parents, siblings and carers at one of the most challenging moments of their lives, offering not just a place to stay, but space to breathe, connect and cope.

We are the UK’s leading provider of family accommodation, with a network of 14 Houses supporting around 530 families each night. Thousands more families use our Houses each year as a place to rest, refresh and gather strength before returning to their child’s bedside. • Trustee – Paediatric Experience: We are looking for a Trustee with significant paediatric expertise and a strong understanding of the clinical and hospital environment. This may be from a senior paediatric, nursing or allied health background, or with strategic or operational experience from the children’s health sector. You will bring insight into the realities facing children, families and healthcare teams, helping the Board make informed, compassionate decisions.
• Trustee – Finance & Investments: We are also seeking a Trustee with strong finance experience, including knowledge of investments. You will provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge around financial sustainability, reserves, investment strategy and stewardship, supporting our long term growth and resilience.
