Here at Migrant Help, we support people seeking asylum in the UK. The small, yet lovely, garden is a place of sanctuary, where those we support can sit in the sun (or rain!) with their friends, learn new skills by taking care of the garden and get their hands dirty. It is a place for enjoyment, while also providing an opportunity to get involved in keeping our garden beautiful!

We rely on volunteers to keep our garden alive, and welcome new ideas. Growing fruit, veg and herbs is a great way for the people we support to get involved with food and gardening, make friends and keep busy!

What you will do

• Bring ideas and horticultural knowledge to expand and grow our garden
• Run regular sessions with clients and provide guidance and support around gardening
• Actively involve clients in decision making (for example, what to grow, how the garden will look)
• Be empathetic and patient in sessions
• Provide words of encouragement and motivation to clients
• Report any safeguarding or confidentiality breach concerns to your volunteer supervisor as soon as possible

• Undergo a criminal conviction check (DBS, PVG or Access NI)

About the role:

As a community champion volunteer you’ll be supporting Sense’s fundraising team, playing a vital role in helping Sense to raise funds and awareness to support people with complex disabilities. 

You’ll engage with individuals, local businesses, and regional press to share our mission, organise events, and inspire others to take action. Whether you’re great at planning events, researching opportunities or connecting with your community, this role has something for you.  

This is a flexible role, with the opportunity to volunteer either virtually or in your local community. We are looking for volunteers able to offer a minimum commitment of 2 hours per month. 

We’re looking for people who are passionate about Sense’s work to support disabled people with complex needs and who have a calm, kind and friendly personality.

Please note that you will not be providing care for the people Sense supports as part of this role.

Due to the nature of the volunteer role, we cannot accept applications for anyone under the age of 18.

The four areas of the role:

As a Community Champion, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, organised into four main role categories. You can choose to get involved in one or more of these areas, and we’ll discuss your preferences with you as part of the application process. Please note, we don’t expect volunteers to take on every area. Instead, we’ll focus on what interests you most and shape the role around your strengths and skills.

Event volunteer:

Support Sense’s Community Fundraising team by:

• Organising your own fundraising events in aid of Sense.
• Supporting and participating in fundraising events at your local Sense services, and shops.
• Supporting with fundraising admin, for example sourcing prizes for Sense fundraisers.

Skills needed:

• Creative, with fresh fundraising ideas and enthusiasm.
• Organised, with the ability help co-ordinate multiple aspects of an event.

Local public relations (PR) volunteer:

Boost Sense’s profile in your local community by:

• Writing content for local press releases.
• Building a network of local media contacts.
• Supporting regional output of national campaigns. 

Skills needed:

• Strong written communication
• Able to follow branding and messaging guidelines.
• Self-motivated and proactive in seeking opportunities. 

Fundraising researcher:

Help boost Sense’s regional income by researching available grants, partnerships and other local connections. Responsibilities include:

• Researching local grants and business partnerships.
• Researching networking events.
• Helping us to source prizes for Sense fundraising events.

Skills needed:

• Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
• Organised, ensuring new leads are accurately recorded and shared. 

Community connector:

Act as an ambassador for Sense, attending events across your community to thank supporters, and forge new partnerships.

• Attending cheque presentations, thanking our supporters.
• Giving presentations about Sense to local schools and community groups.
• Engaging with local businesses and groups, to forge new relationships for Sense.

Skills needed:

• Strong communication skills and enjoys public speaking opportunities.
• Well-connected in their local area, and love engaging with people.

Stores & Equipment Manager

Challenge Adventure Group (“CAG” for short and the operating name of CAG Trust) is a voluntary youth organisation for Knowle, Dorridge and beyond aimed at boys aged 10 and above.

As our name suggests, we provide challenging, adventurous and fun activities and the D of E Award for young people in their leisure time. Taking part in fun experiential activities enables members to develop their physical and mental skills and capacities and reach their full potential of becoming positive, active and happy citizens.

Summary

CAG was formed in 2009 and became a charity, CAG Trust, in 2019.  You will be in charge of CAG’s kit which is kept at various locations, most of which is at the base in Bickenhill.  You will be responsible for advising,  sourcing, acquisition and logging of new kit and supplies and will ensure that it is in an excellent condition to be used for our trips and activities. A key responsibility of the Stores & Equipment Manager is to keep track of all inventory: signing it out for trips / activities and then back in when it is returned.  You will also determine how quickly supplies are being used, and when they may need to be replenished. You will also be responsible for ensuring the kit is repaired and is continually available for use. It is up to the quartermaster to understand what the situation may be and know when inventory is likely to be depleted based on any particular set of circumstances. 

Description

Responsibilities:

• Carry out an annual audit of the kit and liaise with the Treasurer and Secretary to ensure that the insurance is up to date.

• Research and advise the committee and leaders on options for new kit / kit replacement.

• Plan the replacement of old kit acquisition of new kit.

• Keep the storeroom secured, organised and in good order by ensuring everything is in the right place.

• Log out any items and keep track of who has them and where.

• Log in any items after they have been used and check them over for damage / wear and tear.

• Buy supplies to mend any broken items.

• Replace any items that are beyond repair.

• Ensure members / leaders to return kit once they have finished with it and it is returned in good order.

• Ensure that any lost / damaged kit is invoiced out to the member / leader.

• Coordinate kit availability with trip plans and funding / grants.

• Visit offsite venues to check kit stored elsewhere.

• Communicate frequently with the Group Leader and CAG Management Committee to keep them up to date.

We are looking for a volunteer who ideally should have / be:

• Commitment to CAG and its ethos.

• Organised and tidy.

• Self-motivated, proactive and good at managing your own time.

• The ability to build and maintain relationships. 

• Drive and enthusiasm to carry out projects to conclusion.

We are seeking an experienced, confident, and creative Volunteer Social Media Manager to take ownership of Influential Stars’ social media presence across multiple platforms.

This is a hands-on role for someone capable of planning, creating, and scheduling purposeful content that raises awareness, builds community engagement, and supports campaigns across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and grow Influential Stars’ social media presence across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn

• Plan, create, and schedule consistent content aligned with the organisation’s mission and tone of voice

• Develop content that inspires awareness, connection, and positive action

• Share stories, campaigns, and updates in a sensitive and engaging way

• Maintain content calendars and scheduling systems

Membership Secretary

Our group is flourishing and we have a growing number of members who want to take part in our exciting program and challenging adventures. There is a lot of paperwork and payments to be completed and returned by parents and this has to be distributed, returned and logged along with the collection, chasing arrears and logging of membership fees. You will be working in conjunction with the Treasurer and Group Leader as well as being a Committee member.

Description

We are looking for someone to manage member registrations and termly membership renewals / fee collection. The membership secretary has a vital role to play at the start of each term and has an important role throughout the year maintaining members’ records as per GDPR guidelines.

The key tasks of the role are to:

• Maintain the database / spreadsheet of membership and parent details and enrol new members throughout the year.

• Discuss membership with potential new members, register new members and send out Welcome packs to new members.

• Ensure the parents and new member are comfortable in their first few months.

• Manage the membership renewal process at the beginning of each term. 

• Manage the distribution process of membership paperwork to include chasing missing paperwork. 

• Administration and chasing of unpaid / late membership fees.

• Work in conjunction of the Treasurer.

• Coordinate membership levels with Marketing manager to ensure membership is always full.

• Manage the Membership database, in addition to contact details, record Gift Aid Declarations, permission forms and any other relevant returned paperwork.

• Chase any non renewed members and archive as per GDPR guidelines as necessary.

• Conduct a membership audit if required by the committee and in liaison with the Group Leader.

• Respond to membership enquiries.

• Liaise with parents over any membership issues.

• Act as a member of the Committee.

• Attend training courses.

Ideally you should have / be:

• An ability to communicate with adults and young people, both verbally and in writing.

• An ability to organise and plan effectively.

• Office software literate.

• Build, maintain and facilitate effective working relationships with a wide range of people.

• Plan, manage and monitor your own tasks and time.

Your input is key to the running of CAG as well as securing its future. The membership secretary is the authority on how membership is progressing year-on-year. You should be able to very quickly tell of growth / decline in membership amongst different age groups to inform the focus of the Marketing Manager and Group Leader.

RSPCA Surrey East Branch

We are looking for fosterers in the Surrey East area, including Redhill, Reigate, Dorking, Horley, Lingfield, Oxted and Caterham.

We’re looking for cat-loving volunteers to play a vital role in helping us improve the wellbeing of the cats in our care whilst they wait to be rehomed. Can you help them by providing a calm and caring home whilst we find their purrfect forever home?

Overview of the opportunity

As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.

Once everything is in place, the branch will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat.

Our Animal Welfare Officer, Robyn, is the fostering coordinator, so she will provide our fosterers will all the help and support they need. We are a small, remote branch, so fostering will be the backbone of our rehoming operation. Volunteers will play an integral part to our branch. We don't operate at a large capacity, so we will always be on hand to support fosterers and navigate the fostering process with them. They will be joining the branch at a very exciting time, as we have only just launched our cat fostering scheme.

Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:

• Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.

• Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.

• Transport them to any veterinary appointments (if required)

• Provide them with your time and patience.

• Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.

• Playing and cuddles are also a must!

What we are looking for in a volunteer Cat Fosterer

• Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for cats.

• Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.

• For their wellbeing, our cats need to be kept in a separate room, so the whole family should be on board.

• Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and depending on the position, you may need to sign an agreement and undergo specific training before starting the role.

What will you do?

This is a key frontline role helping people who are seeking information and advice. Our aim is to provide an effective and efficient advice service to members of the public and our assessors are at the heart of this work.

As a Gateway Assessor, you’ll work as part of a team directly with residents who need advice both face to face in community venues and on the phone.  You’ll suggest the appropriate next steps after finding out more about the client’s problem and situation.  This might be providing information, making an appointment with an Adviser, or making a referral to another organisation. 

How much time do you need to give?

The initial training takes around 1 month if you attend twice a week.  We prefer people who can commit to 2 days a week for at least 6 months after completing the initial training.

What do you need to have?

No formal qualifications are required – just the right attitude and dedication.  We’re looking for volunteers who:

• are friendly, caring and empathetic
• are non-judgemental and able to remain impartial
• have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and are a good listener – you’ll need to be able to assess client’s problems using sensitive listening and questioning
• have a good level of literacy and numeracy skills, including attention to detail
• are comfortable using computers for training, communications and writing up notes
• can work as part of a diverse team
• can handle challenging situations and use their initiative to solve problems
• will commit to the training programme and continuous professional development

We are keen to encourage volunteers who speak a community language e.g. Arabic, Bengali, Farsi or European languages.

You’ll also need to complete an Enhanced level DBS disclosure (criminal record check), which we will arrange. Having a criminal record does not necessarily prevent you from volunteering with us.
