Volunteering in the shop

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. Selling womenswear, menswear, shoes, and bags to household goods, our shops can be found in the London villages and bring in vital funds for Save the Children.

Our Wandsworth Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Our shops help raise lots of money for us. It’s always lovely chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do. As a volunteer you will get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus be part of an amazing team of volunteers. There’s so much for you to get stuck into when volunteering in our shops. We get lots of donations so you will be rolling up your sleeves in the back room where you will be receiving, sorting, steaming and pricing donations, it's always exciting when one of our volunteers spots a real gem. On the shop floor, as well as welcoming and serving our customers with a smile, you will be using the till (don't worry, we will show you how) and handling money. When people come in to donate items you will also be completing the Gift Aid forms that let their donations help us even more. It’s really important that our window and shop displays look appealing so people keep visiting our shops, so you'll be wielding a duster and vacuum as well as your imagination to make the shop look its best. It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift a week, which is about four hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need. But if you have any experience or particular interest tell us, it may come in useful. What we're looking for: A friendly face to welcome visitors and animals to our rescue centre in Whitminster, answering their questions, and directing them to the appropriate member of staff. You will also help make sure the Teckels shop is well stocked, clean and tidy, and looks its best.

This role is ideal for someone with excellent customer service and communication skills, able to deal with a wide range of people visiting in person or over the phone. An eye for detail is helpful for processing admin and making bookings.

Our rescue centre can get very busy, so it is important you are comfortable working in a fast paced environment and have the ability to multi task. You may be the first person someone meets at Teckels, so you will need to be polite, helpful, understanding and discreet, able to handle sensitive situations.

When you can help: We are looking for Welcome Volunteers on a Wednesday and Sunday afternoon, and all day Saturday

Volunteer in a Newlife store

We're recruiting retail volunteers to support us as we head into the retail peak season and beyond.

Become a Retail Store Volunteer and you’ll join our friendly community of staff and volunteers. We’re always searching for volunteers to help in our nine UK stores. You can find shifts that suit you.

• Where? Cannock, Burton, Market Drayton, Newport (Wales), Moreton, High Wycombe, Yardley

About the role: 

Retail Support Volunteers get involved in a range of tasks including supporting customers, sorting stock and working on the shop floor. 

If you’re looking for retail experience, enjoy working in a busy environment and are a great team player, this is the opportunity for you. 

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing excellent customer service and dealing with any customer queries 
• Setting up displays in store to showcase products

Influential Stars is a purpose-driven platform connecting creators, supporters and causes through exclusive experiences, sponsored events and fundraising campaigns. We believe anyone with a BIG heart can use their influence, networks and community to make a positive difference.

Our Story

Influential Stars was founded by Lisa Connell, who is living with an inoperable brain tumour and has spent many years supporting charitable causes. The platform was created from a simple belief: when influence, connection and community come together, they can create meaningful impact.

Role and Purpose

We are looking for a friendly, organised and proactive individual to support our Creators throughout their entire journey with Influential Stars. As our Volunteer Creator Relations & Campaign Manager, you will help manage communication with Creators from their initial invitation and registration through to preparing, launching and completing their campaign. You will build positive relationships with Creators, interact with them on social media and ensure they receive the right guidance, encouragement and resources at every stage.

This role would be ideal for someone interested in creator relations, influencer marketing, digital communications, campaign coordination, fundraising or community engagement.

The role will also include onboarding newly registered Collaborators. This involves updating their personalised Canva referral poster and actioning their scheduled welcome and follow-up emails.

Full training and templates will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

● Send approved email invitations to prospective Creators. ● Follow up with Creators who have expressed an interest in joining Influential Stars. ● Respond to general Creator enquiries and direct more complex questions to the appropriate team member. ● Welcome newly registered Creators and explain the next steps in their journey. ● Onboard newly registered Collaborators using the approved onboarding process. ● Update each Collaborator’s personalised referral poster using an existing Canva template. ● Action and schedule the appropriate Creator and Collaborator emails at each stage of their journey. ● Ensure new Collaborators receive their referral information, personalised poster and relevant support resources. ● Keep Creator and Collaborator records and email tasks updated within our CRM system. ● Ensure Creators receive the relevant guides, campaign information, templates and support resources. ● Build and maintain positive relationships with Creators through email and social media. ● Engage with Creators’ content on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other relevant platforms. ● Support Creators as they choose their campaign type, cause and experience where applicable. ● Maintain regular contact with Creators while their campaign is being prepared and is live. ● Send scheduled campaign emails, reminders, check-ins and promotional suggestions using approved templates. ● Encourage Creators to share campaign updates, engage with their chosen cause and complete their FIT List nomination. ● Work with the wider Influential Stars team to help promote live Creator campaigns. ● Monitor Creator progress and flag any concerns, unanswered communications or support needs. ● Keep accurate and up-to-date records within our CRM system. ● Follow up with Creators when their campaign ends, thank them for their involvement and share any relevant next steps. ● Encourage Creators to remain part of the Influential Stars community as Collaborators or return for future campaigns. ● Contribute ideas to improve the Creator experience, communication and engagement.

Skills and Experience Required Essential

● Excellent written communication and relationship-building skills. ● A warm, professional and encouraging communication style. ● Confidence communicating with people through email and social media. ● Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. ● Ability to manage follow-ups and keep accurate records. ● Comfortable following communication templates and agreed processes. ● Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently. ● Passion for helping others and creating positive social impact. ● Respect for confidentiality and sensitive personal information.

Desirable

● Interest in digital marketing, influencer marketing, communications, PR, business, fundraising or events. ● Experience engaging with creators, influencers, customers or community members. ● Experience using social media for outreach, engagement or promotion. ● Familiarity with CRM systems or email campaign processes. ● An interest in charities, personal causes and social-impact initiatives. ● Familiarity with Canva. ● Full guidance and training will be provided, so enthusiasm, reliability and a genuine interest in people are more important than formal experience.

Working Arrangement

● Fully remote volunteer position for someone based in the South East of the UK - Ideally Hertforshire based or able to travel for meetings. ● Approximately 20 flexible hours per week. ● Hours should be spread across the week to ensure Creator and Collaborator communications are managed consistently. ● Occasional in-person meetings or working sessions may be available by mutual agreement. ● Ongoing guidance, templates and support from the Influential Stars team.

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic people to help us in our brand-new Visitor Centre at Crystal Palace Park!  

The Visitor Centre is a welcoming hub where visitors can discover the history and heritage of Crystal Palace Park through a permanent exhibition, browse our gift shop and find information to help them make the most of their visit to Crystal Palace Park. The building also includes a flexible space available to hire for community events, meetings, and activities.

Volunteers will play a vital role in ensuring that visitors have an informative and positive visit. You’ll volunteer in pairs, supported by paid staff, to welcome visitors and support our Visitor Centre shop and membership opportunities.

This role will suit you if you are a friendly, outgoing individual who is keen to gain retail and customer service experience while learning more about working for a charity.

What’s involved: 

• Welcoming visitors to Crystal Palace Park and helping to ensure that we provide an inclusive and friendly environment for all our visitors. 

• Supporting the Visitor Centre shop, including serving customers, processing sales through our cashless till system and helping to ensure the stock is monitored and the space is welcoming and tidy. 

• Wayfinding – helping visitors map out their route around the park, including information about park services; toilets, cafes and seating areas 

• Promoting Crystal Palace Park, including our aiding visitors to join as Crystal Palace Park Members using our membership tablets. 

Time involved: 

This role is available Wednesday – Sunday throughout the year. Hours involved will be across two shift patterns, AM: 9.45 – 1.00pm and PM: 12.45 – 4.00pm. 

There will also be ad-hoc evening openings throughout the year which volunteers can also be involved in.

We encourage volunteers to take part in this role for at least 3 months to get the most out of the opportunity.

Support and training: 

We will provide you with all the training necessary for your role, including: 

• An induction and full briefing before your first session 

• Training in how to assist in the shop and membership engagement 

• Support from Trust and Freelance staff.

• Volunteers are covered under Crystal Palace Park’s public liability insurance 

We will offer you:

• A volunteer uniform (lanyard or pin badge) 

• Reimbursement of travel expenses up to maximum of a zone 1-6 travelcard 

• Support from a dedicated volunteer officer 

• Access to facilities, water and light refreshments 
• Ongoing support and supervision from Trust staff

What you will be doing

• Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:
• Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.
• Researching valuable, rare and antiquated stock.
• Chatting to customers, giving great service on the till.
• Visual merchandising: creating eye-catching window and in-store displays.
• Photographing and listing items for the online shop.
• This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety training to all volunteers.

Jelly Shop Assistant Volunteer

We are looking for confident, capable volunteers to support our busy charity shop. If you enjoy meeting people, keeping busy, and being part of a welcoming team, this could be a great opportunity for you.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll help support the day-to-day running of the shop and create a positive experience for customers.

Tasks may include:

• Serving customers and operating the till
• Greeting and assisting shoppers
• Working independently on the shop floor
• Pricing and preparing donated clothes, toys and books for sale
• Replenishing stock and creating attractive displays
• Helping keep the shop tidy, organised and welcoming

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is friendly, reliable and confident working with the public
• Can work independently and use initiative
• Enjoys a practical, hands-on role
• Has good communication skills
• Has retail experience (a bonus, but not essential)
• Wants to support a local charity and be part of a team

Time commitment

• Shifts are usually 10am–1pm or 1pm–4pm
• Regular weekly volunteering preferred, but we can be flexible
