What the role involves
Trustees play a vital role in:
- Setting and overseeing strategic direction

The role focuses on strategy and assurance, not operational management.
Who we’re looking for
We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with:
- Primary or secondary headship, or senior leadership in a Multi‑Academy Trust
- Financial leadership or accountancy expertise

What we are looking for.
The Board are looking to strengthen existing skills and knowledge that currently exists and would like to appointment Trustees with any of the following skills and experiences.
Ø Parent/ carer of an individual with Learning and Disabilities - living or professional experience – bringing day to day experiences to ensure that the Charities strategy is appropriate from a user’s perspective
Ø Health and safety contract management – providing expertise in all aspects of safety aspect
Ø Fund raising and PR/marketing including social media - Bringing innovative ideas to expand our reach and connect more people with our cause.
Ø Project management – sharing skills to aid strategy of charities developments
Ø Business planning and/or Business Case development -providing skills for the creation of business cases
Ø Horticultural management – Bringing leadership to support the activities of the charity
Ø Education /Training/ skills and personal development - offering insights to help improve and develop our Board and workforce

We are looking for a new independent trustee who can bring fresh perspectives and objective judgment from outside our immediate membership to join our very committed board. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of charity law and regulation.
Location: Attendance at 4 board meetings (mainly online but with 1-2 in London) each year, and attendance at the Board strategy day.

About: The Council of Deans of Health is a membership organisation and charity representing over 100 UK universities and colleges engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery, and the allied health professions. About Schoolreaders
One in four children in England leave primary school unable to read at the expected level — a barrier that shadows their education, confidence, and life chances. Schoolreaders was founded in 2013 to change this.
The Charity delivers weekly one-to-one reading support to primary school children who need it most, powered by a nationwide network of trained volunteers. This community-driven model delivers exceptional impact at minimal cost. Role specification
As a Trustee at Schoolreaders, they will play a key role, helping to shape the overall direction and vision.
The key duties of Trustees are to:

Person specification
Schoolreaders is seeking to strengthen its Board with new Trustees who bring expertise across two priority areas: Education and Communications / PR. While prior governance experience is welcome, the organisation is equally open to applications from those seeking their first non-executive appointment.
Education
The Board welcomes applications from those with current experience as a primary school practitioner, ideally within the state sector. The capacity to deliver strategic direction is essential. Insight into challenges linked to deprivation and the use of educational technology would be particularly valuable in shaping policy, practice and partnership development. A background in safeguarding would also be highly valued. Candidates may have held leadership roles such as Head of Department, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher, Chief Executive, or Director of Education. Appointees will also join the Education Safeguarding Consultation Group (meets online three times per year).
Communications / PR
The Board is seeking a Trustee with significant experience in communications, brand development, and / or marketing, and a strong understanding of digital and social media strategy. Candidates may come from any sector, provided they bring sound judgement, strong strategic thinking, and the ability to operate credibly across these areas. Experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing at a senior level will be valuable.
This Trustee will bring valuable insight as Schoolreaders strengthens its in-house communications and marketing capability and will help to shape the development of a longer-term strategy to raise the organisation’s profile and extend its reach. They will also support the development of a more integrated and cohesive approach, contributing to thinking on brand strategy, marketing and communications priorities, audience engagement, and external profile, as well as offering insight across digital, social, and traditional channels.

Location
Board meetings are primarily held virtually, with one in-person board meeting and one strategy day held annually (typically in Bedford). Trustees from all regions of the UK are encouraged to apply.

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures. Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and give a person a sense of hope for the future.
Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their own community for up to 12 months. The Education, Training & Employment (ETE) team supports our mentees in custody to break down barriers to employability. Post-release, this continues by supporting mentees to gain meaningful and career changing roles in sector specific industries such as Construction, Engineering, Catering & Hospitality or the Self-Employment route.
The ETE team are looking to build a team of volunteers to work with mentees in the community and to shape the existing ETE service in the Thames Valley area. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can commit for up to 12 months and give a few hours a week to support men to change their life by being inspirational role models, helping with goal setting and supporting their mentee to access ETE opportunities and ultimately gain meaningful employment. Mentoring sessions will be 1:1, take place weekly and can be done remotely by telephone or online. These sessions will last approximately one hour, but some time should also be given to liaising with Trailblazers staff and researching relevant opportunities.
Induction training is provided, out of pocket expenses covered, a mobile phone is provided to protect your identity, a Trailblazers T-shirt and lanyard are provided, DBS costs are covered, as well as regular reflective practice sessions to support you within your role.

Role Description
As a Project Manager (PM), you will lead EPAfrica’s Summer Team, which is our in-country leadership group responsible for overseeing and supporting Project Associates to deliver meaningful programmes of investment in Ugandan schools. You’ll take on a leadership role that blends operational oversight, pastoral care, and high-level decision-making to ensure the success and safety of our summer projects. This is a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, contribute meaningfully to international development, and support passionate volunteers in-country.
Key Responsibilities
• Direct managerial responsibility for our volunteers in-country, including our Project Associates and a “Summer Team” of coordinators.
• Lead and support a cohort of Project Associates throughout their placements in partner schools, including:
* Delivering trainings on topics such as project management, effective international development practices, safety and wellbeing, and cross-cultural communication
* Provide pastoral support and act as the first point of contact for volunteers in-country
* Oversee project progress, supporting Project Associates in addressing challenges, and ensuring investment projects stay aligned with EPAfrica’s mission and theory of change
• Implement our in-country monitoring and evaluation programme, enabling us to effectively plan for and deliver future investments. This includes:
* Monitoring visits to current & recent investment schools to gauge impact of EPAfrica’s work
* Assessment visits to potential future EPAfrica participant schools
• Staying up-to-date research into developments in the Kenyan education system and potential impacts on our work
• Maintaining relationships with our network of local partners.
• Manage risks and implement an emergency response to any crises that might arise.
• Maintain clear and proactive communication with the central UK-based charity team.
Who we are looking for
• Strong familiarity with, and demonstrated interest in, EPAfrica’s values and operating model.
• A keen demonstrated interest in grassroots international development is required; previous experience in East Africa (volunteering, fieldwork, or prior work experience) is an advantage.
• Experience managing teams to deliver project-based work, leading by example.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems under pressure, with good judgement, and decision-making skills.
• Willingness to operate in a challenging, fast-paced environment, taking accountability for team decisions.
• Experience as a Project Associate or previous Summer Team involvement with EPAfrica preferred.

Location: Mbarara, Uganda
Compensation: Non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:
• Flights: Round-trip flights to Kampala, and internal travel from Kampala to Mbarara, covered.
• Accommodation: Fully covered throughout the EPAfrica summer. No contribution required towards rent or utilities.
• Programme delivery costs: All costs associated with programme delivery paid for by the charity.
• Additional Costs: Limited personal subsistence costs, plus any personal travel elsewhere within Uganda (e.g., for your holiday week).

What we are looking for

The Commitment
The Project Coordinator role lasts for at least 3 weeks during our summer programme, which runs from around late June to early September. There will be some UK-based training in advance of the placement, with preparation beginning in June.
Location: Mbarara, Uganda
Compensation: Non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:
• Travel: Project-related travel in and around Mbarara is fully covered.
• Accommodation: Fully covered throughout the EPAfrica summer.
• Programme delivery costs: All costs associated with programme delivery (travel to sites, partner meeting expenses, etc) paid for by the charity.
Additional Costs: Round-trip flights to Uganda and limited subsistence costs, plus any personal travel elsewhere within Uganda.

Role Overview

Introduction to African Adventures Foundation
African Adventures Foundation is a registered charity set up in 2013 to provide support to 34 schools in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.
These schools provide education, health and food security, and social support to young people whose access to these basic services would otherwise be very limited. African Adventures Foundation helps by funding food security programmes, the construction of important school facilities, and hygiene projects that will benefit children’s health and education.
Our mission is to provide more children with a quality education and better opportunities in life.
All trustees are responsible for governing a charitable company and directing its management and operation. They must also ensure that the trust complies with all legal and statutory requirements.
About the role
The Secretary supports the effective governance and administration of the African Adventures Foundation. The role ensures that the Board of Trustees operates efficiently, meetings are properly organised and recorded, and the charity complies with regulatory and administrative requirements. The Secretary works closely with the Global Chair, Treasurer, and other Trustees to ensure the charity follows best practice in governance and maintains accurate records.
As an ambassador, they also support external stakeholder and donor activities ensuring compliance to the standards required.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Administration
- Support the Global Chair in ensuring AAF is effectively governed and operates in line with its governing document.
- Ensure trustee meetings are properly administered, including preparing agendas, coordinating papers, and taking accurate minutes.
- Ensure that trustee decisions and discussions are clearly recorded and stored appropriately.
- Maintain up-to-date records of trustees, governance documents, and key organisational information, including steward of the governance schedule for all territories.
Meeting Management
- Ensure that trustee meetings are properly administered and recorded.
- Circulate agendas, minutes, and supporting papers to trustees in a timely manner.
- Ensure other meetings, such as the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and key organisational events are properly administered.
- Ensure that minutes from meetings are approved and maintained as part of the charity’s official records.
Compliance and Record Keeping
- Ensure that records required by regulators are properly maintained, including those required by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
- Maintain accurate governance documentation, including trustee appointments, resignations, and declarations of interest.
- Ensure that Charity Commission and other relevant organisation records are maintained and kept up to date.
Regulatory Reporting
- Ensure required information is filed with regulators in accordance with statutory deadlines.
- Submit annual returns and other required filings to regulatory bodies in the correct format and within required timescales.
- Support the Board in ensuring compliance with relevant guidance from bodies such as the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Fundraising Regulator.
Monitoring Actions and Board Support
- Maintain an action log for trustee meetings.
- Monitor committee member action points and follow up where necessary.
- Support trustees by ensuring they have access to relevant governance information and documents.
- Assist the Board in maintaining good governance practices and transparency.
What we are looking for

Terms of appointment
Terms of office
- Trustees are appointed for a 2-year term of office, renewal for 2 further terms to a maximum of 6 years.
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Time commitment (Estimated at one day per month, but can vary)
- Attend the board meetings – a mix of online and in person.
- Additional time for preparation and distribution of meeting documentation. Time to manage governance records and regulatory submissions throughout the year.

We are seeking a Treasurer/Trustee for The Historic Towns Trust, an educational charity that focuses on inspiring future generations to understand, appreciate and preserve their urban heritage. The Trust works in partnership with local historians, geographers and archaeologists to publish historical maps and atlases that give everyone a sense of belonging and custodianship. Our unique multi-layer mapping techniques reveal a new way to visualise the complex development of Britain’s towns, enabling us to better analyse the impact of events and communities over time. We use our research to develop teaching materials for schools and to engage the public with free talks, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to influence future decisions about their built environments.
Among our Trustees we have some of the leading academics in the fields of urban history and archaeology, architects, and business people, who share a passion for maps and history. While the organisation has no central office and Trustees are spread across Britain, we meet frequently, usually but not exclusively in London.
The Trust has expanded significantly in recent years, increasing the number of maps and atlases we produce and developing educational and community outreach programmes to increase the impact of each map for the town it serves. The number and value of transactions we undertake (raising funds for projects, selling maps, taking on our first employee) has grown considerably and we are seeking a new Trustee to fill the role of Treasurer, helping us to re-shape the organisation for the future.
The Role
The Historic Towns Trust has the following financial activities
1. Income from our endowment
2. Income from sale of maps and atlases directly, through our website and through third party distributors
3. Income from grants and donations to HTT towards core activities
4. Holding of money raised for individual atlas and map projects
5. Expenditure on administration
6. Quarterly VAT filing
7. GiftAid collection and accounting
8. Annual audit
Currently three sub-committees (Projects, Communications and Resources) report to an Executive Sub-Committee (“ESC”) that reports to the Board of Trustees. Each of these meets quarterly, with two Board meeting held in person in June and December, usually in London.
In the light of the recent growth in activities we are reviewing our operating structure. This may include
· A new Educational sub-committee
· Splitting Resources between Administration and Sales/Marketing
· Recruitment of a paid part-time book-keeper
· Recruitment of an office administrator
The Treasurer will sit on ESC and will be responsible for the financial administration of the Trust and its reporting obligations to HMRC and the Charities Commission. They will report to the Board on the financial position of the Trust on a quarterly basis, and lead deliberations on major investments. They will lead the audit.
As a Trustee they will have the opportunity to be engaged in our atlas and map activities, attending events and launches and contributing in any other way to the development of the Trust.
The Candidate
We are looking for an experienced, preferably qualified, accountant who has a passion for cartography, for urban history and for education.
