Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Deploy a wide variety of training methods and conduct effective induction and orientation sessions
• Monitor and evaluate training programs’ effectiveness, success, and ROI periodically and report on them
• Provide opportunities for ongoing development, resolve specific problems, and tailor training programs as necessary
• Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments, and best practices
• Coach, mentor, and guide students and participants in related issues, challenges, and development journeys

Operations Management:

• Ensure smooth operations of activities across the UPG Sustainability Leadership Initiative (UPGSL) / UPG Biashara
• Support coordination of online sessions, workshops, webinars, and community engagement activities
• Assist with volunteer coordination, task tracking, and operational follow-ups
• Support online event management activities, including Zoom session coordination, participant engagement, and backstage support where required
• Help ensure smooth communication flow across initiatives and team members
• Provide general operational and administrative support where required

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Work closely with one or more stakeholder groups connected to these initiatives to optimize participation
• Assist with stakeholder, participant, mentor, and speaker communications
• Coordinate follow-ups between internal teams, including Communications and program teams
• Support collaboration with NGOs, experts, thought leaders, partners, supporters, and the wider public

Communications & Coordination Support:

• Support content scheduling and publication coordination for social media and promotional activities
• Assist with coordination between program and communications teams to ensure timely campaigns and updates
• Support community engagement and participant communication activities

Tracking Impact, Insights, and Reporting:

• Monitor and evaluate existing activities and support systems to track impact over time
• Assist in distilling operational insights and preparing reports where necessary

Administration:

• Work with colleagues across teams to ensure administrative matters are handled effectively

Requirements:

• Prior experience in managing, developing, or supporting projects related to training programs, education environments, entrepreneurship programs, or community initiatives
• Prior experience with project management is an advantage
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and stakeholders simultaneously
• English is MUST and the ability to speak and write in additional languages is an asset
• Ability to conduct information research
• Ability to work with and respect confidential information of stakeholders

Genetic Alliance UK is looking for three new trustees as well as a new chair due to existing board members having served the maximum time allowed.

About us

We are an alliance of over 220 charities and support groups with an ambitious strategy focused on working together to improve the lives of the 1 in 17 people in the UK affected by rare, genetic or undiagnosed conditions. We campaign for timely diagnosis, better coordinated care, and improvements in screening, testing, services and treatment.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking candidates with a personal or professional passion for driving these improvements, who can bring relevant skills and experience to help shape our work.  As part of the organisation’s work to foster diversity, equity and inclusion, we aim to have a broad and varied membership of the Board. We encourage applications from the devolved nations of the UK. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of rare, genetic or undiagnosed conditions either directly, via family and friends, or through a connection with one of our member organisations.

We are keen to recruit people with skills and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

● Business development and income generation

● Media, communications and public relations

● Reproductive choice techniques and ethics

What will you be doing?

Trustees play a key role in leading and supporting the charity. We ask them to:

● Attend four Board meetings each year (at least two meetings are held online, with one or two in-person Board meetings each year usually in central London)

● Attend one in-person Board Strategy Away Day each year (usually following one of the in-person Board meetings)

● Attend the one-hour Annual General Meeting in autumn each year

● Consider joining one of our sub-committees, with up to four online meetings each year.

The roles are voluntary (unpaid). We reimburse reasonable expenses necessary for attending meetings and taking part in Genetic Alliance UK activities. 

Most of our trustees are sponsored by our member organisations. If you have a connection with one of the charities in our alliance or the conditions they support, please mention this on your application.

Chair of Trustees role:

You will be chairing the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we have minimum representation required for decisions to be made, keeping the board aligned in decision-making, ensuring all minutes are recorded and that all decisions by trustees are made with the appropriate context provided.

This is a great opportunity to develop further governance skills and experience, and help steer an important charity in the right direction.

Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.

Who are we looking for?

• Previous chairing experience
• Relevant experience in any of the following financial management, HR, charities, fundraising, social prescribing, NHS, health inequalities (including deaf community), local authorities, marketing, business development, governance, strategy or legal
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
• Good, independent judgement
• The ability to challenge and ask questions
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership

We focus on the people most likely to be excluded: those living on low or no income, with poor health, discrimination, or long-term structural disadvantage. Our strategy for 2024-2030 centres on Stoke-on-Trent and the parts of Staffordshire where inequality is most entrenched. 

About the Trustee roles

The role of trustee at Together Active is an integral position that ensures the charity operates on the foundation of effective governance. That means providing oversight at strategic level and supporting a robust, informed decision-making process.

Together Active is seeking to appoint two trustees that have specialist knowledge across two key areas:

• Governance expertise

OR

• Strategic safeguarding expertise

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience of either charity sector leadership and governance; strategic communications or community development
• Ability to actively monitor the performance of the organisation
• IT literate
• Understanding of and commitment to Charity Commission’s Code of Governance
• Able to understand financial information

Leadership:

• Inspires confidence and creates stability

Communication:

• Exceptional communication skills particularly when speaking to others
• Active listener
• Confident networker
• Evidence of being able to persuade and influence in a range of settings
• Strong commitment to partnership working

Desirable criteria

Knowledge and Skills:

• Lived or professional experience of the challenges facing communities in Stoke on Trent
• Previous experience of trusteeship
• Understanding of risk and its effective management
• Knowledge and understanding of the sport and physical activity landscape

Communication:

• Understanding of principles of non-violent communication

Sex Education Forum is the national voice of relationships and sex education (RSE) in England, with youth involvement at the heart of everything we do. Having launched our new strategy for 2026-30 we now have an incredible opportunity to join our Board and help achieve our plans! .

This is a pivotal moment for our organisation and for the sector. Universal RSE provision in schools is entering a new phase under updated statutory guidance. Over the next five years our work will be focused on four pillars: convening the sector, communicating about RSE, equipping educators and innovating to address gaps. Our plans involve advocating for RSE beyond school and equipping trusted adults in supporting children and young people, particularly those who are marginalised, with high quality, inclusive RSE.

Being a trustee is a voluntary role open to anyone of 18+ years old. Trustees play a vital role in helping us grow sustainably and increasing our impact. We’re particularly keen to hear from people with expertise in:
• Fundraising and business development
• Working with marginalised, minoritised and racialised groups
• Digital and IT / CRM systems

Previous trustee experience is not essential. If you are committed to inclusive, evidence-based RSE for all children and young people this could be for you!
