Read Easy Waltham Forest is a local group that provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who want to learn or improve their reading skills. We match local residents with trained volunteer coaches for sessions every week, meeting in safe, convenient places around the borough of Waltham Forest. By teaching adults to read, we do so much more than just improve literacy—we help boost mental health, build daily independence, and transform lives across our community.

We are now looking for our new Team Leader.

The Read Easy Management Team Leader is a vital volunteer position for our local branch of the adult literacy charity Read Easy. The purpose of the charity is to help adults in the area who want to improve their reading skills, and we are currently supporting 15 readers.

Your role is to oversee and support a small team of enthusiastic and friendly volunteers and to manage monthly meetings. The role requires leadership and administrative skills to keep the group running smoothly. Key responsibilities include leading a team of skilled and experienced volunteers and working with them to plan activity and set future goals. You will also occasionally liaise with the Read Easy area co-ordinator for the South East and ensure the group is run in compliance with Read Easy policies.

The time commitment is flexible but would be around 4 to 5 hours per week, plus one monthly management team meeting which is in the evening.

Volunteering with Read Easy is fun and rewarding. To hear that a parent can read to their child for the first time, that someone can read the aisle names in supermarkets or that someone has been able to fill in a form by themselves for the first time in their life means that we know that we are making a positive change.

Reading Through Recovery -A weekly 90‑minute group supporting anyone on a substance or alcohol recovery journey, whether actively using or abstinent, through the shared experience of reading.​​

In a relaxed and inclusive space, participants bring a book they’re reading, explore themes that resonate, and dive into stories that spark insight and strength. Together, we share literature that has inspired, supported, or shaped our recovery journeys, with optional recommendations and themed reading ideas each week.​​

This is more than a book group, it's a place to find meaning, connection, and momentum in recovery.​

The role:

We are seeking enthusiastic readers to co-facilitate our new project – Reading Through Recovery. Volunteer group facilitators will help to make newcomers feel welcome, and empower everyone in the meeting to contribute, should they wish to.

This role is ideally suited to people with lived experience of recovery, either directly, or through supporting a close friend or family member, although we welcome applications from anyone with an empathetic, non-judgemental attitude that can build strong working relationships with others.

Tasks may include:

• Facilitating a non-judgemental space to allow participants to express feelings and share experiences freely.

• Foster a sense of community and trust

• Enable participants to connect through shared narratives, enabling them to relate to one another’s journeys.

• Encourage reflection and discussion.

Safeguarding Team Volunteer

Purpose: To safeguard vulnerable adults accessing our services and address any potential safeguarding referrals that we receive within and outside of the organisation. Have you been Bereaved by Suicide for 2 years or longer? Do you have a desire to help other people who have also been Bereaved by Suicide? Are you comfortable listening to the experiences of others? You could be just the person we are looking for.

We have self-help support groups across the UK, where you can meet with other people who have been bereaved by suicide and we want to enrol some new volunteers to join our Alnwick Support group. The group meet once a month and last for around 2 hours. They provide an opportunity to listen, to share, to ask questions and to connect with others.

Each local SoBS group is run by a team of 3, all of whom have been bereaved by suicide themselves. Between them, they facilitate the session, get the conversation started, make sure everyone has the opportunity to talk if they want to, and generally look out for people and each other. The team also work together to manage the administration, fundraising and communication for the group, sometimes with the help of additional support volunteers.

There is no set structure to a session – people are free to talk and listen as they wish. The topics discussed vary from month to month but often includes people sharing their story, how they are feeling, what has happened since their last group visit.

Go Beyond are a national UK charity giving children who have been bereaved, abused or bullied, who are living in poverty or caring for loved ones the chance to escape their worries and pressures through free breaks in the countryside. We need volunteers to help us deliver fun, creative and adventurous activities throughout the year.

Go Beyond’s centres in Essex, the Cornish coastline, and on the edge of the Peak District are where vulnerable young people facing various challenges in their life come for a week of freedom and fun. Running Monday-Friday throughout the year, our breaks give children and young people the chance for time away from the worries of their everyday life, to make friends, try new things, build confidence, and ultimately go home inspired by what the world can offer them and what they, in turn, can offer the world.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

As a breaks volunteer, you will be part of a team, including trained Break Leaders, and will support by being an extra pair of eyes and ears, and a helping hand where needed. You will spend time with the young people attending Go Beyond and help ensure they have a positive week full of experiences and memories that will last a lifetime!

Full training and support will be given throughout. We have a wide variety of volunteer roles available and key responsibilities can include:

• Assist in growing OBI's online community and supporter engagement.
• Monitor digital marketing performance and recommend improvements.
• Stay updated with current digital marketing and social media trends.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in digital marketing or social media management.
• Strong video editing skills using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar.
• Experience creating short-form video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
• Basic graphic design skills using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Excellent written English communication skills.
• Strong storytelling and content creation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Passion for nonprofit work and community development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with nonprofits or NGOs.
• Knowledge of social media analytics and content strategy.
• Experience with Meta Business Suite, Buffer, or Hootsuite.
• Photography or motion graphics skills are an added advantage.
• Familiarity with fundraising or advocacy campaigns.

2. Create a full suite of logo variations in multiple sizes and formats for both digital and print.
3. Shape the look and feel of our organisation across social media, marketing materials, presentations and more.
