We are seeking an exceptional individual to become Chair of our Board of Trustees at a pivotal point in our journey. This is a highly influential role, offering the opportunity to lead our Board, support our CEO and senior leadership team, and champion our ambitious 2024–2030 Transforming Futures strategy.

This strategy aims to ensure that every young person has access to the financial education, enterprise capability, and work readiness they need to succeed, while deepening our impact on those facing the greatest barriers.

We are looking for a strategic and well-connected leader who can:

• Lead and inspire a high-performing, diverse Board of Trustees

• Strengthen relationships with government, policy makers, funders, and corporate partners

• Support fundraising and advocacy through strategic introductions and influence

• Ensure excellence in governance, safeguarding, compliance, and financial sustainability

• Act as a visible ambassador for Young Enterprise nationally and internationally

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who bring:

• Significant leadership experience at Board or executive level in charity, corporate, or public sectors

• A strong personal commitment to improving life chances for young people

• Credibility and networks among senior decision makers, funders, or policy influencers

• Strategic leadership and governance expertise

• Experience in fundraising, public affairs, or policy advocacy (desirable)

• An interest in education, youth development, enterprise, or social mobility

Above all, we are seeking someone who shares our vision and values and is passionate about helping young people, particularly those facing the greatest barriers, build successful futures.

The successful candidate will chair six Board meetings per year (primarily London-based), participate in events, visits, and stakeholder engagement, and commit approximately 1–2 days per month. This is an unpaid role, but reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for an additional term of three years.

As part of our governance and succession planning, we are seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees, following the completion of the current Chair’s maximum term. We are looking for a Chair with the leadership, governance, and relational capacity to guide the Board effectively in this next season.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the Board effectively - chair Board meetings with clarity, fairness, and impartiality; work with the executive leadership team to shape agendas; foster a culture of trust, accountability, and constructive challenge; and ensure the Board focuses on its fiduciary, strategic, and generative responsibilities (including finance, risk, safeguarding, and trustee development).
• Support and line-manage the CEO - act as the primary point of accountability for the CEO on behalf of the Board; provide encouragement, guidance, and appropriate challenge between meetings; and lead the CEO’s annual appraisal and oversee performance review arrangements.
• Chair Council meetings - chair the twice-yearly Council meetings, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Represent the charity - act as an ambassador and spokesperson for Global Connections within the network and externally where appropriate.
• Contribute to governance and reporting - provide content for the Annual Trustees’ Report, with support from the Executive Leadership.

Seed Sowers are a group of volunteers dedicated to supporting the growth of The Green House. The aims of the volunteer group are:

• To help the Green House grow our funding, networks and audience
• Give advice and feedback on fundraising campaigns and strategies
• Lead and support fundraising initiatives
• Make introductions to potential collaborators like business contacts, influencers, public figures
• Represent the charity at events and talks

The role focuses on advancing the charity’s mission through fundraising and networking. The Seed Sowers is an advisory and action-oriented group, focused on proactively amplifying The Green House’s fundraising and communications initiatives and increasing the charity’s income and visibility.

The group will be led by an appointed volunteer Chair, who will coordinate activity and act as the primary point of contact.

Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career development professional to build hands-on experience in community fundraising and operational support. Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin, the Junior Fundraising and Operational Support Officer will play a key role in strengthening SEED’s community fundraising and supporting crowdfunding campaigns.

A core part of the role will be providing exceptional care to SEED’s community fundraisers, incoming staff and volunteers ensuring timely and professional communication. The postholder will lead volunteer and staff onboarding, supporting smooth and well-prepared arrivals in country, enhance communications and digital content, and assist with operational systems that underpin SEED’s work. 

The role will build strong relationships with schools, workplaces, running clubs, and community organisations in donor countries, supporting them to raise vital funds and awareness for SEED’s work. This will include identifying and researching new fundraising opportunities, stewarding community fundraising activities (such as bake sales and seasonal campaigns), and supporting fundraisers and volunteers to use third-party platforms effectively. 

Working within a collaborative national and international team, this is an office-based role with occasional field visits with opportunities to gain experience across fundraising, operations, and the realities of working in international development practice in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment. 

Title: Junior Fundraising and Operational Support Officer

Location: Fort Dauphin, Madagascar

Commitment: 12 months; Monday to Friday (35 hours a week)

Salary: Voluntary position, with local monthly stipend towards accommodation and a contribution of £650 towards insurance

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Lead the onboarding of new staff, ensuring timely and well-prepared arrivals in country

2. Act as the primary point of contact for onboarding queries, both prior to and after arrival

3. Onboard and support international volunteers, including in their roles as individual fundraisers

4. Develop engaging fundraising materials and messaging across digital platforms 

5. Collaborate with the Communications team to produce engaging volunteer scheme marketing content

6. Support the design and delivery of community fundraising campaigns to grow crowdfunding income

7. Ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all fundraising outputs

8. Develop and deliver training and resources to strengthen capacity among volunteers and staff

9. Build and strengthen relationships with institutions in donor countries to grow community fundraising and crowdfunding opportunities

10. Identify and pursue new partnerships, networks, and platforms to increase fundraising reach

11. Monitor and evaluate fundraising performance, using insights to improve future campaigns

12. Support the Conservation Team in Sainte Luce with volunteer orientations and pastoral care as required

13. Provide pastoral care to international staff and volunteers, supporting wellbeing alongside line managers

14. Act as a point of contact for welfare concerns, responding in line with organisational policies

15. Take clear and accurate minutes during meetings, ensuring actions are tracked

16. Promote and uphold SEED’s policies, including safeguarding, whistleblowing, and anti-corruption

17. Undertake additional tasks as required to support wider organisational priorities

Required Skills & Experience/Person Specification 

• Hold an undergraduate degree or be able to demonstrate a passion for this area

• Be able to work independently and be proactively

• Have good all-round computing skills and experience in Microsoft Office 

• Have previous experience working to deadlines, highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities

• Communicate clearly and engagingly in written English across a range of media forms

• Communicate verbally to encompass the range of cultures you will be working with

• To have a good level of written English and be able to proofread documents to a high standard

• Be fluent in English. A working knowledge of French is desirable but not essential

• To have a proactive, creative approach to fundraising and problem-solving

• Ideally have previous experience living, working or travelling in a developing country, though is not essential

• Be capable and comfortable adapting to life in a low-income country context, sometimes with basic living conditions

• Be able to adjust to life in another culture and a foreign language and be able to always work with cultural sensitivity

• Be comfortable with campsite conditions whilst supporting the volunteers in the field for days at a time

• Be able to work and socialise within a small group of people and to be respectful and take personal responsibility for maintaining a good reputation for the NGO in the community

• Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other members of the team in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED to protect both their safety and the reputation of the NGO.

This is an exciting time to lead Age UK Stockport’s Board. To be the Chair of Age UK Stockport is to be an active volunteer in our community. But it’s not the easiest volunteering role! It can be challenging, but it will be rewarding.

Our Board has recently been refreshed after the recruitment of three new trustees who, alongside our established trustees, complete the Board membership.

Our current Chair will be standing down later this year having served the maximum term for the role. We are looking for a dedicated, creative person, with a range of appropriate professional and life experiences to become our next Chair. They will have the interest and commitment to lead and drive forward the development of Age UK Stockport in line with our core values – to be Connected, Confident and Creative.

The successful candidate would join the Board as trustee and Chair Designate and then be elected Chair at the AGM in the autumn of 2026.

The Chair leads the Board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively. You will support the Board to work together well and will manage and support the Chief Executive. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity. 

Main responsibilities of the Chair

• Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring effective governance and accountability
• Work in partnership with trustees, the Chief Executive and staff / volunteer team to achieve Age UK Stockport’s mission, vision and objectives
• Plan and chair the Board meetings and the AGM working with others to achieve this
• Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Age UK Stockport
• Ensure Board meetings are properly run and recorded
• Represent Age UK Stockport externally, helping, with others, to build partnerships with funders, local / regional authorities, and community organisations
• With others, ensure the charity remains financially sustainable and operationally strong, delivering excellence for people in later life
• Recognise and make best use of trustees’ skills and experience
• Line manage the Chief Executive on behalf of the trustees

What we need from you

Community Liaison Officer

Challenge Adventure Group (“CAG” for short and the operating name of CAG Trust) is a voluntary youth organisation for Knowle, Dorridge and beyond aimed at boys aged 10 and above.

As our name suggests, we provide challenging, adventurous and fun activities and the D of E Award for young people in their leisure time. Taking part in fun experiential activities enables members to develop their physical and mental skills and capacities and reach their full potential of becoming positive, active and happy citizens.

Summary

CAG was formed in 2009 and became a charity, CAG Trust, in 2019. We are looking for an individual who embodies the spirit of CAG and continually keeps the integrity and goals of the organisation at the forefront of every decision that they make as part of their role.  To ensure we meet our goal of improving the well-being of young people and being a part of our local community we need to increase our reach. We’re looking for a volunteer Community Ambassador to play a vital role in helping us reach new audiences, form new partnerships and maintain current arrangements, raise awareness and generate income.

You will seek out opportunities to speak to and build relationships with community groups, organisations and businesses, raising awareness of our work and encouraging action through giving, campaigning and volunteering.

In addition to public speaking opportunities, you may attend events on our behalf, such as business networking meetings, fundraising events, community fetes, galas and more.

You will work closely with the CAG Management Committee for support and help mapping out opportunities within the local community and beyond.

Description

Responsibilities:

• Communicating and building relationships with current and potential community contacts.

• Promoting CAG in the local area.

• Attending meetings and events.

• Delivering talks about CAG’s aims and activities.

• Contacting existing supporters to encourage continued support.

• Researching new opportunities to build relationships in the local area, for instance: local places of worship, the Round Table, the Lions, local businesses.

• Working in close conjunction with our Social Media Volunteer and our Fundraising Volunteer.

• Communicating frequently with CAG Management Committee to keep them up to date.

We are looking for a volunteer who ideally should have / be:

• Commitment to CAG and its ethos.

• Organised, self-motivated, proactive and good at managing your own time.

• Someone who enjoys meeting new people and networking, and is comfortable with public speaking.

• The ability to build and maintain relationships. 

• A proactive attitude, drive and enthusiasm to carry out projects to conclusion. 

• The ability to influence others using excellent communication skills. 

• The ability to motivate others and work as part of a team. 

• Resilience, particularly when faced with setbacks.

• A willingness to carry out a range of administrative tasks. 

• Strategic vision and an ability to think creatively.

• A car driver or have ability to travel to attend events and meetings.

• The post holder must be able to provide a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

About the location

Where will the volunteer be working?

The volunteer will work from home and will be required to attend meetings within the Solihull area.

Travel Limit

This role is partly remote but ideally the candidate should be available for face to face Committee and other meetings.

When will the volunteer be working?

Volunteer availability

• Flexible to suit you.

• You would need to be available to attend Committee meetings which normally take place in the evening.

• Occasional weekends and evenings to attend events.

Estimate of time commitment

• 0 - 3 hours / week – the candidate will be able to offer further time as they wish.
