Professional services administrator volunteer roles in Belfast

We are looking for a finance professional to join our engaged and friendly board as Treasurer, with specific oversight of the charity’s financial management. While day-to-day financial administration is carried out by employees or external providers, the Treasurer works closely with them and the Board to ensure sound financial governance. The Treasurer provides financial leadership, helps trustees understand the organisation’s finances, and ensures that the charity meets its financial and statutory obligations.

You will have a qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, or Audit, or perhaps be a senior Finance Manager or Director in a charity. We welcome applications from people for whom this is their first Treasurer role, but we are seeking candiates who have some understanding and/or experience of the charity sector.  We are willing to provide access to training around the treasurer role, but a basic knowledge of charity accounting and financial management would be a strong advantage.

You will have the ability to communicate financial information clearly to those without financial expertise and be a strategic thinker, with the ability to balance financial scrutiny with broader trustee responsibilities.

Our board meet once a month (either virtually or in person in London) for around 90 minutes. We aim to have strategy days twice a year. You will meet with the CEO and Finance Manager once a month, and be available for ad hoc emails, advice. Trustees are usually appointed for a three-year term, which can usually be extended. 

You will also bring a commitment to the values, aims, and objectives of the charity, and a desire to help children and young people who have experienced grief.

Trustee Duties

• Support and provide advice on Safer Places’ purpose, vision, goals and activities

What is a caseworker?

Caseworkers visit clients to work out what type of support they need. You will listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help those serving, who have served and their families to navigate life in and beyond military service. Some examples of support are securing funding for special equipment for someone with a disability, adaptions to a property so an older client can remain at home or funds for a rental deposit. Caseworkers also sign-post clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. We’d love the general public to understand what we do and how they can help us.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical, and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or in a care home setting. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can complete the administration part of the role from home as long as you have access to IT equipment and the internet.

What would you be doing?

• Contacting beneficiaries and arranging to meet them at a mutually convenient time.
• Meeting beneficiaries and completing a form to assess their circumstances, using good communication skills, empathy and understanding.
• Sign-posting clients onto local services providing specialist advice.
• Applying for funding on the behalf of the beneficiary through a specific process and system  
• Arranging for the purchase of goods and services
• Keeping the beneficiary informed of their case progress.
• Liaise with the branch and regional office, regarding your availability.
• Keeping up to date with training and SSAFA news so that you are best able to support clients.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA
• Adhering to SSAFAs policies and procedures at all times, including safeguarding, volunteering policy, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.

What training and support would you receive?

• Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role – confidentiality and boundaries, personal safety, caseworker training, and caseworker IT system training. The caseworker training takes 3 days and a further half a day for the other training.
• Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
• Access to a range additional e-learning courses as well as local opportunities for your personal and professional development.
• Local induction including assigning a person from the team who will be your main point of contact.

• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

• Willingness and ability to use IT systems for initial and on-going training and to enter cases on the Casework Management System. Willingness and ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address which you will be required to use when exercising your role.
• Ability to make enquires on behalf of beneficiaries by phone, email, letter or by filling in forms.
• Ability to keep within boundaries of the role with regards to friendship or giving advice
• Reliable, prompt and trustworthy.
• Access to public transport or a car to travel to appointments with clients.

Support U is launching Rainbow Line in January 2026 — a dedicated listening line for the LGBTQIA+ community — and we are seeking compassionate, committed volunteers to join us as Call Handlers. Rainbow Line has been created to offer LGBTQIA+ people a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk, be heard, and feel supported.

The service is designed for individuals who may be feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or in need of someone to listen. While Rainbow Line is not a professional counselling, psychotherapy or crisis service, volunteers play a vital role in offering empathetic listening and, where appropriate, signposting callers to specialist services and organisations for further support. By volunteering with Rainbow Line, you’ll be helping to reduce isolation and create a more connected, supportive community.

What You’ll Be Doing 

• This is a home based volunteering role, but you’ll ideally need to be based in or around Berkshire.

• The telephone support service will run twice a week within a 2-hour time slot. You’ll ideally commit to 2–4 hours per week. 

• Service users will pre-book telephone appointments via our website. 

• You’ll answer pre-booked calls, providing a safe, non-judgemental space for users to talk openly and be heard, with signposting to other relevant services. 

• After each call, you’ll complete a short record noting topics that came up, and any safeguarding concerns. 

• Support U’s designated safeguarding leads will be available during service hours for any immediate advice or escalation.

Gulab Sorkh Foundation (GSF) is an independent charity supporting Afghan nationals resettled in the UK under the ARAP scheme. We are looking for two volunteer interpreters—one fluent in Dari and one fluent in Pashto — to join our team at the Gulab Sorkh Foundation (GSF). You will play a key role in supporting Afghan refugees who have resettled in the UK, assisting them in accessing essential services and communicating effectively in their daily lives.  This is an influential volunteer opportunity where you will make a real difference by helping Afghan refugees integrate into British society, providing crucial interpretation during interactions with service providers such as healthcare professionals, housing officers, and legal advisors.

As a Volunteer Interpreter, you will:

• Provide interpretation services (Dari or Pashto) to Afghan refugees, ensuring clear 
• communication between them and various UK service providers.
• Assist refugees in understanding key information related to housing, healthcare, 
• education, and other public services.
• Facilitate communication during meetings, appointments, and community events to 
• support their integration journey.
• Offer support and cultural understanding to ensure refugees feel comfortable and 
• respected throughout their resettlement process.

Key responsibilities:

• Interpret accurately and sensitively between Dari/Pashto and English during one-on-one 
• and group interactions.
• Help beneficiaries understand and complete necessary paperwork or official forms in 
• both languages.
• Collaborate with case managers and external partners to ensure the refugees’ needs are 
• effectively communicated.
• Be aware of and sensitive to the needs of individuals who may have experienced trauma 
• and displacement.
• Follow data protection laws and policies

Essential skills:

• Fluency (written and verbal) in Dari and/or Pashto and in English.
• A high level of cultural sensitivity and empathy towards Afghan refugees.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information clearly 
• and accurately.
• Ability to remain neutral and impartial in all interactions.
• Commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and confidentiality.

Desirable skills:

• Level 3 in Interpretation.
• Previous experience working with refugees or vulnerable communities.
• Knowledge of UK systems such as healthcare, housing, and immigration.
• Understanding of the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) scheme.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C. is seeking a Retreat Support & Member Travel Liaison to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of retreats, gatherings, and in-person programmes for survivors, young people, and community members. This plug-in role is essential to ensuring that members can participate in transformative experiences with clarity, dignity, and practical support.

As Retreat Support & Member Travel Liaison, you will coordinate the logistical and communication aspects of member participation in retreats and events. You will act as a key point of contact for travel planning, accommodation coordination, accessibility needs, and member queries before, during, and after retreats. Working closely with programme leads, clinical and safeguarding teams, and community managers, you will help ensure retreats are delivered smoothly, safely, and in alignment with our values-led, anti-capitalist, community-driven mission.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential / Highly Valued Experience

• Experience in event coordination, travel liaison, member support, or administrative logistics
• Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, timelines, and communications calmly and reliably
• Clear, professional, and compassionate communication skills (written and verbal)
• Confidence supporting participants who may be anxious, unfamiliar with travel, or attending for the first time
• Ability to handle sensitive and personal information confidentially, in line with safeguarding and data protection policies
• Ability to work collaboratively with programme leads, facilitators, venues, and volunteers
• Proactive problem-solving skills and sound judgement when escalating concerns
• Reliability and responsiveness during pre-event and live delivery periods
• Alignment with values of care, respect, and participant-centred delivery

Desirable / Can Be Developed

• Good understanding of, or willingness to learn, safeguarding and wellbeing protocols
• Confidence using digital tools for scheduling, communication, and record-keeping (e.g. email, shared documents, spreadsheets, CRM or event platforms)
• Experience supporting vulnerable groups, community programmes, or residential retreats
• Willingness to contribute to improving systems and processes through reflection and feedback

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Coordinate member travel logistics: Provide clear guidance on transport options, arrival and departure details, accommodation information, and local travel considerations. Support members to plan journeys confidently while balancing consistency, cost-awareness, and accessibility needs.
• Primary point of contact for members: Act as a calm, reliable, and approachable contact for participants attending retreats or in-person programmes. Respond to queries promptly, clearly, and sensitively, recognising that travel and participation can be stressful or unfamiliar for some members.
• Support retreat and programme planning: Work alongside programme leads to support retreat schedules, attendance tracking, check-in processes, and on-the-day coordination. Assist with practical arrangements that enable facilitators to focus on delivery and participant care.
• Liaison with venues and teams: Coordinate with venues, facilitators, and internal teams to ensure accommodation, access, catering, room set-up, and transport arrangements meet programme needs, safeguarding standards, and agreed expectations.
• Accessibility, wellbeing, and safeguarding: Proactively identify potential accessibility barriers, wellbeing needs, or safeguarding concerns shared by participants. Escalate issues promptly and appropriately to designated leads, following organisational safeguarding procedures.
• Data management and compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of participant details, travel arrangements, access requirements, and communications. Ensure all information is handled confidentially and in full compliance with GDPR and data protection policies.
• Post-retreat follow-up and evaluation: Support post-programme processes, including follow-up communications, feedback collection, and contribution to evaluation activities. Help ensure participant experiences inform learning and continuous improvement.
• Systems and process development: Contribute to the creation and refinement of checklists, guides, templates, and systems that improve the consistency, care, and efficiency of future retreats and in-person programmes. Share learning and practical insights with the wider team.
