Citizens Advice Buckinghamshire is seeking an exceptional individual to become our next Chair of Trustees.
About Us
We are part of the national Citizens Advice network, providing free, confidential and impartial advice to thousands of people each year across Buckinghamshire. We have offices in Aylesbury, Buckingham, High Wycombe and Chesham.
Our work helps people resolve problems around debt, housing, employment, benefits and consumer rights, often preventing crises, reducing pressure on public services and enabling individuals to regain stability and independence.
The organisation is stable, well-managed and ambitious. Following reductions in statutory funding and changes across the national network, we are now focused on strengthening income streams, raising our local profile and entering a new phase of growth.
The Opportunity
It is an opportunity to build on strong foundations and take the organisation forward.
As Chair, you will:
• Provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees.
• Help strengthen funding and sustainability.
• Raise the profile of Citizens Advice across Buckinghamshire.
• Represent the organisation with funders, partners and the wider community.
• Champion the difference we make to people’s lives.
We are particularly interested in candidates who live in, or have strong knowledge and networks within Buckinghamshire (ideally central or south).
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone who brings:
• Strategic leadership experience (board or senior executive level).
• The confidence to support and constructively challenge a CEO.
• Strong networking skills and credibility locally.
• Commercial awareness and financial literacy.
• An interest in fundraising and partnership development.
• A genuine commitment to community impact.
Prior Chair experience is welcome but not essential. Energy, judgement and the ability to build relationships are key.
Time Commitment
• Four face-to-face Board meetings per year (2 hours each).
• Four subcommittee meetings per subcommittee annually Finance & Risk, Operations, People, and Fundraising).
• Annual strategy Away Day.
• Annual Staff & Volunteers Day.
• Attendance at selected fundraising and stakeholder events.
• Approximate commitment: 2 -4 days per month.

We’re part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation empowering 12- to 20-year-olds through flying, adventure training, sports, and leadership development.
West Mercian Wing supports over 900 cadets across 27 squadrons in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the Black Country, and Cyprus. Each squadron is supported by a committee of trustees who oversee governance, fundraising, and community engagement, helping ensure incredible opportunities for young people.
What’s involved
Being a trustee is a simple but highly impactful way to support your local squadron:
- Attend quarterly meetings (around two hours each)
- Discuss finances, fundraising, priorities, and squadron activities
- Take part in decisions, especially financial and strategic matters
- Support events, networking, or community initiatives
Typical commitment: 8-12 hours per year.
Who we’re looking for
Trustees come from all walks of life. No military, youth work, or charity experience is required. Trustees actively participate in meetings and decisions – there’s no obligation to take on an elected role.
Eligibility:
- Must be 20 years or older.
- Must have lived in the UK for 3 or more years.
Useful skills (optional but welcomed):
- Finance, budgeting, or business management
- Fundraising or grant writing
- Event planning or project management
- Governance, committee, or leadership experience
- Local networks or community connections
We particularly welcome:
- Applicants from under-represented communities.
- Younger adults. Only 1% of trustees in the UK are under 30 (Charity Commission and Pro Bono Economics 2025), and we particularly encourage applications from people wanting to grow their skills while making a real impact.

The Witness Service provides free, independent support to any witness giving evidence in criminal courts in England and Wales — both for the prosecution and the defence.
Our trained staff and volunteers help people understand what to expect before, during and after a trial, and offer practical and emotional support every step of the way, so witnesses can give their best evidence.
The Witness Service also supports bereaved family members, and friends and family who are accompanying witnesses in court.

Street Paws stands up for people facing homelessness because, for them a pet is a lifeline, not a luxury. We challenge the misconception that having a pet should ever be a barrier to a secure home. CHARITY SHOP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – CUSTOMER SERVICE - HASTINGS
We currently need volunteers for Tuesday and Saturday afternoons, Wednesdays & Friday mornings and all day Sundays.

PURPOSE
To assist the Shop Manger in the running of an Age UK East Sussex Charity Shop with a focus on serving customers, driving sales and store presentation
ROLE OF THE VOLUNTEER
· Greet and thank customers in a polite and friendly manner
· Assist customers in choosing items and actively promote sales
· Replenish and display stock in the shop throughout the day
· Receive donations and complete Gift Aid paperwork
· Handle cash and operate the till following correct procedure
· Take credit card payments using the Streamline system
· Assist in keeping the shop clean and tidy following the cleaning rota
· Undertake other tasks as required by the Shop Manager
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES NEEDED
· Great communication and interpersonal skills
· A pleasant and friendly manner
· Basic numeracy skills
· An eye for detail
· Enjoy working as part of a team
· Trustworthy and reliable
AS A VOLUNTEER WE WOULD ASK YOU TO
· Support the Mission and Vision of Age UK East Sussex by helping us to ensure that our county is a place where people in later life flourish
· Be available to volunteer for at least one regular shift each week. This could be a morning, afternoon or whole day. Depending on the store we open Monday – Sunday.
· Adhere to Age UK East Sussex confidentiality and equal opportunities policies maintaining discretion and confidentiality at all times
· Be reliable and conscientious
· Attend all training and information days, group meetings and supervision
· Exercise patience and understanding when dealing with customers

We’re part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation empowering 12- to 20-year-olds through flying, adventure training, sports, and leadership development.
West Mercian Wing supports over 900 cadets across 27 squadrons in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the Black Country, and Cyprus. What’s involved
Being a trustee is a simple but highly impactful way to support your local squadron:
- Attend quarterly meetings (around two hours each)
- Discuss finances, fundraising, priorities, and squadron activities
- Take part in decisions, especially financial and strategic matters
- Support events, networking, or community initiatives
Typical commitment: 8-12 hours per year.
Who we’re looking for
Trustees come from all walks of life. No military, youth work, or charity experience is required. Trustees actively participate in meetings and decisions – there’s no obligation to take on an elected role.
Eligibility:
- Must be 20 years or older.
- Must have lived in the UK for 3 or more years.
Useful skills (optional but welcomed):
- Finance, budgeting, or business management
- Fundraising or grant writing
- Event planning or project management
- Governance, committee, or leadership experience

The Witness Service also supports bereaved family members, and friends and family who are accompanying witnesses in court.
