We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Northern Projects team on a dedicated learning and development programme specialising in rivers and wetlands.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT)’s mission is to create a Yorkshire rich in wildlife for the benefit of everyone – more wildlife, more wild places and more people having a strong connection to nature. Within our Northern region we manage 36 nature reserves, as well as a number of exciting projects. Enabling nature’s recovery takes time and effort and the North Team benefits from the help and support of volunteers to make our vision a reality, whilst providing a first-rate learning and development opportunity for people wanting to focus on a career in nature conservation.

The role of the River and Wetlands Voluntary Placement is for the volunteer to support and be involved in the management of conservation projects in North Yorkshire. Working alongside a team of knowledgeable staff, you will help in planning, development, and the practical delivery of this work. This role will allow you to get an in-depth understanding of working in the conservation sector - you will gain experience in developing river restoration and wetland projects on a local scale whilst working alongside landowners on private land. You will have an opportunity to be directly involved in projects which help to reduce sediment inputs into the watercourse, increase biodiversity and encourage natural flood management.

What will you be doing?

On this Voluntary Placement you will gain experience in supporting with river restoration and wetland creation projects in North Yorkshire. You will be based in our York office with field work largely carried out near Northallerton, Whitby and York. You will primarily assist our Project Officers in undertaking work on third party land, however there will also be the opportunity to support other members of the wider team to enhance your development. You have the opportunity to gain experience in the following areas:

• Riparian ecology and restoration (habitats located on the edge of rivers, streams, lakes and other water bodies).
• Land management techniques to improve water quality
• Wetland habitat creation
• Riparian surveys to identify sedimentation issues and other Water Framework Directive failures (WFD is a directive for the protection of all waterbodies).
• Assist in overseeing contractors undertaking practical conservation work (familiarisation with contracts etc.)
• Undertaking practical tasks such as tree planting, surveys, pond work & habitat creation
• Gain familiarisation with budgets and project management tools
• Mapping and GIS work using QGIS
• Publicising project work via traditional communications, social media and community engagement events.
• Coordinating volunteers for survey work and events.

Working closely with relevant campaigns or events team leadership and other volunteers of CBS, the Media Correspondents will interview members of public, campaign stakeholders, special guests, celebrities, leaders in policy, business and media , produce high‑quality audio‑visual content, and manage digital publications, helping to strengthen awareness, engagement, and visibility for our organisation’s mission and project outcomes.

Correspondents will play a key role in shaping and sharing the stories behind our sustainability initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

• Working alone or in pairs; introduce campaigns to stakeholders/public, research, plan, compose and execute interviews and features (text, audio, video as applicable) 
• Conducting interviews with project leads, community members, partners, special guests, advisors and beneficiaries; for public events, public engagement, award ceremonies, campaigns
• Recording high‑quality audio and video content in the field (public places) or remotely.
• Editing interviews and project footage into clear, engaging, and professional media outputs.
• Creating compelling written and visual content for social media, newsletters, and other organisational platforms.
• Managing the publication of content across our digital channels, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with our mission.
• Collaborating with multiple project teams, selecting assignments based on your availability and areas of interest.
• Maintaining organised media archives and ensuring all content adheres to ethical and brand guidelines.

What are we looking for?

• A minimum of three years’ experience in journalism, media production, communications, or a related field.

We are aiming to undertake surveys and monitoring relating to birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and plant species. As an Events Coordinator in the South West Social Work team, you will plan and coordinate a range of events throughout the year; working directly with the families we support and partner organisations. we hope to run events across the region including end‑of‑treatment celebration days, sibling days, festive events and bereavement support events

Description

You'll be raising awareness, & improving understanding of sight loss through delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions in your local community. Through these engaging sessions, you'll inspire participants to make small changes to their behaviour that make a massive difference in the day-to-day lives of people with sight loss. As a Community Change Champion, this will involve:

• Talking directly with community leaders, businesses, & local groups about ways they can get involved & inviting them to join an Awareness to Action session.
• Delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions either in person or online, using our resources. You may do this on your own or with a team of other local volunteers, both sighted and with sight loss.
• Sharing RNIB’s information & initiatives so people know we’re here for them.
• If you have a personal link to sight loss, sharing your experience during the session to help give a tangible example of how local people can make a real difference.
• Telling us about any activities you have engaged in via a Microsoft form.
