What is the befriending service?

• The Befriending Service links volunteers 1:1 with a disabled child/young person.
• Links are based on shared interests and activities, which you can enjoy doing together, either in the young person’s home or out in the community.

What experience do I need?

• You do not need any previous experience with disabled children or young people
• We ask that you are friendly, caring, reliable and able to make a commitment to visit a young person regularly.

What will I be doing?

You will volunteer within WECIL’s befriending service for disabled children/young people and their families. This involves:

• Spending time regularly with a disabled child or young person in their home or their local community.
• You will not be asked to administer medication or deliver personal care in this role.

Who am I responsible for?

• You are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the child or young person you are linked with.
• All links are risk-assessed and carefully monitored by your Coordinator.

How often will I be needed?

• We typically ask for volunteers to commit to 1-4 hours a week
• The days / times are agreed between the volunteer and the family.
• We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months to ensure the child and their family are able to benefit fully from the relationship.

What about expenses?

• Volunteer travel expenses can be reimbursed on receipt of a claim form. You won’t be left out of pocket.

Volunteer Branch Organiser

Across the UK, our local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Every year, our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests, designing and creating bespoke equipment free of charge.

As a Branch Organiser, you’ll play a key role in helping to make sure your local branch runs smoothly and effectively. You’ll recruit, welcome, and support volunteers, ensuring the team’s work meets the needs of disabled people in your area. You’ll bring motivation, leadership, and strong communication and organisational skills to the heart of your branch.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local needs shape what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of referrals in your area
• Organising and chairing the branch meetings
• Leading the branch’s shared responsibility for planning and completing referrals
• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new local branch volunteers
• Approving income and expenditure with the other branch bank account signatories and ensuring, with the Treasurer that our financial requirements and policies relating to branches are followed
• Ensuring the branch’s activities comply with policies to keep people safe
• Acting as a key point of contact, maintaining regular communication between volunteers and staff.

As a maintenance (handyman) volunteer at SeeAbility, you will support the supported living home in Banbury by maintaining a safe, functional, and pleasant environment for people we support and our teams.Volunteers needed for a few hours a week or fortnightly.

This position requires a reliable, skilled, and proactive individual who can carry out general maintenance tasks and assist with small repairs around the property. Your efforts will directly contribute to the well-being of the people we support and ensure that the home remains a comfortable and secure place for all.

Skills Required 

•   Perform general maintenance and minor repairs to the building and facilities, including but not limited to:  carpentry, painting, decorating and repairing

• Assist with the installation of furniture, fixtures, or equipment, ensuring they meet safety standards.

• Ensure that all tools and materials are properly maintained and stored safely.

• Help identify potential maintenance issues before they become problems.

• Report more complex repairs or safety concerns to the Home Manager

• Support the care home during renovation or redecoration projects.

• Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to ensure the upkeep of the home.

• Volunteers will not be asked to carry out any electrical or plumbing works

• Adhere to health and safety guidelines, ensuring all tasks are completed with care and in compliance with regulations

Time Commitment

Flexible and agreed in advance according to the location needs. This role includes regular support sessions and occasional cover for the Cook during planned or unplanned absence.

Role Summary

The volunteer kitchen support (deputy cook) supports the delivery of Evergreen Care UK’s community café services. You will work alongside the Cook and wider team to help create a welcoming, well-run environment where people feel connected and included.

A key part of this role is providing occasional cover for the Cook, helping ensure the café can continue to run smoothly. You will be supported by the wider team when doing so.

This role is designed to provide additional support and occasional cover. The overall responsibility for service delivery remains with Evergreen Care UK staff.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys cooking, being part of a team, and contributing to a positive community space.

Stories Volunteer

Do you love the challenge of telling a good story? Do you enjoy listening to other people and learning about their experiences? We’re looking for a great communicator with a flair for the written word to help us develop a bank of stories about our volunteers. 

We have more than 2000 volunteers who help us deliver life-changing services, raise money and campaign for change. Our volunteers have a wealth of experiences, backgrounds and stories to tell. We’re looking to capture these stories so we can recognise and demonstrate the impact our volunteers have and share the news of their amazing contribution.

Suggested Involvement: Flexible and ongoing. Approximately 1-2 stories per month.

Main Tasks

• Interviewing volunteers by phone or video call

• Writing up volunteer stories engagingly for various channels e.g. social media, Shelter website, intranet and our volunteer newsletter

• Ensuring permissions are collected and recorded

• Maintaining a positive relationship with the volunteer while interviewing them, writing up their story and following up with any subsequent questions

Skills and experience required

• Experience with writing and publishing pieces either as part of your work, hobby or previous volunteering. 

• Experience with researching and/or interviewing to gather information.

• Accurate spelling and grammar as well as a creative and engaging approach to telling stories.

• Confident use of IT and awareness of online platforms.

• Excellent communication and listening skills.

St. Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House provide specialist palliative care within the hospices and in the comfort of patients' homes, treating adults and children with advanced progressive life-limiting illnesses.

To ensure our shops are packed with new and exciting stock and look appealing, we rely on a team of volunteers working behind the scenes to make this happen at our Retail Distribution Centre in Worthing. It's a hive of activity, with donations sorted from bags of clothes, and boxes of Bric-a-brac, to large furniture items.
This is an excellent role if you like being part of a team and enjoy keeping active. There's always lots to do, and it's fascinating when our volunteers spot something rare and valuable.

You can volunteer for one or more shifts a week for a morning, afternoon, or all day, but we're delighted to consider any time that suits you, even if it's just a couple of hours.

About the Role

Rotherham & Barnsley Mind are seeking a Receptionist / Administration Support Volunteer to provide a friendly, professional front‑of‑house service at our Rotherham office.

This is a key volunteer role within the organisation. As the first point of contact, you will help create a welcoming, calm and supportive environment for people accessing our mental health services, as well as staff, volunteers and visitors.

The role also includes a range of general administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the organisation. We are looking for a reliable and flexible volunteer who enjoys working with people and supporting a busy office environment.

Key Responsibilities

Reception & Front‑of‑House

• Provide a warm, respectful and professional welcome to all visitors
• Answer incoming telephone calls, take messages and direct enquiries appropriately
• Ensure visitors sign in and out of the building in line with Health & Safety procedures
• Maintain a tidy, welcoming reception and waiting area
• Make refreshments for visitors where required
• Act as a first point of contact for suppliers and contractors
• Support cashless payments for services where applicable (with training and supervision)

Administration & Office Support

• Support with general administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning and printing
• Assist with managing the room booking diary
• Deal with incoming and outgoing post
• Support stock checks and ordering of office supplies (e.g. stationery and kitchen items)
• Input basic information and update records on internal systems, following GDPR guidance
• Provide ad‑hoc administrative support to staff and services as required

Health, Safety & Safeguarding

• Support the Office Manager in maintaining a safe and secure building
• Assist with opening and closing the building, where appropriate and agreed
• Undertake health and safety responsibilities appropriate to a volunteer role
  (e.g. fire marshal or first aid support – training provided if required)
• Recognise and promptly raise any safeguarding concerns with a named staff member

Boundaries of the Role

This is a non‑therapeutic volunteer role. You will not be expected to provide counselling or mental health advice. Clear boundaries will be in place, and support will always be available from staff.
