Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We have embarked on our 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.
Homelessness is rising fast across Britain, and we are seeing unprecedented demand for our services. At this critical time, we are looking for two talented, experienced Senior Media Officers to join the Crisis media team, to help raise the public and political profile of homelessness, to shine a light on the human impact, and to show how Crisis is working to help people rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind.
Location: Crisis is hiring two Senior Media Officers. One of those will be London (Aldgate) office based and the other role will be based in either our Birmingham, Liverpool or Newcastle office. Working from home is an option in line with Crisis’ Hybrid working policy; you will be required to work from the office twice a week.
About the role
As a Senior Media Officer, you will design, deliver and evaluate impactful media strategies to bring to life Crisis’ work, using print, digital and broadcast journalism to advocate for the solutions needed to tackle homelessness and inspire the public, businesses and politicians to join our mission to end homelessness for good.
You will work as part of a motivated, expert team to develop high-profile media and communications campaigns, including our annual Christmas appeal, and help to build our brand.
With homelessness at record levels there has never been a more critical time to join Crisis and ensure tackling homelessness is firmly on the news agenda.
Each Senior Media Officer will line manage one Media Officer.
About you
You will have significant experience of working in a challenging, fast-paced news and media environment to secure high-profile coverage. The ability to navigate competing priorities and influence senior internal and external stakeholders is essential.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience of working with the media to help secure policy change, demonstrate the ability to secure high-profile consumer media to support income generation and have exceptional news sense, with the ability to take a creative approach when seeking out new media opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have lived experience of mental health care pathways, including emergency department attendance, acute admissions, and community mental health services, alongside a solid understanding of the issues affecting individuals with a range of mental health conditions. They will be able to communicate effectively and provide support with dignity and respect, forming and sustaining trusting relationships with service users, carers, peer support workers, and professionals. Strong listening and verbal communication skills are essential to engage appropriately with service users in crisis, colleagues, and external agencies, both in person and over the phone. Knowledge of recovery tools, local mental health and wellbeing support, and the ability to assess needs, risks, and aspirations to provide appropriate signposting are required. The candidate will demonstrate strong prioritisation, time management, and the ability to work dynamically under pressure. Proficiency in IT, including MS Word, Outlook, and internet functions, as well as good literacy and numeracy skills to produce clear written correspondence, is expected. They will have a sound understanding of safeguarding issues and the ability to address them appropriately, work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and support the induction of new peer staff and volunteers. About the role:
The Fleet Administrator will form a vital part of the Finance and Operations Team supporting the Operations Manager in the management of the Rainbow Trust fleet. Rainbow Trust operates a fleet of approximately seventy vehicles situated across our nine regional teams. It is vitally important that our Family Support Workers have a reliable vehicle for attending family visits and transporting families to hospital. In addition, the Fleet Administrator will be required to assist the Operations Manager with ad-hoc tasks/projects according to the workload.
Full training will be provided and previous experience of managing a fleet is not required, although is desirable. A good level of maths, excellent communication, planning and Microsoft Excel skills are required to be successful in this role.

Job Purpose The Customer Services and Purchasing Coordinator will provide friendly, efficient and accurate support across customer service, post, donations, purchasing, deliveries, office supplies and practical administration. The postholder will help ensure that people are responded to well, systems are kept up to date, purchases are processed appropriately and the practical flow of day-to-day operations is handled with care. We are seeking an exceptional advocate with a policy, legal or related digital rights campaigning background to work with us furthering privacy and civil liberties in the UK at one of the UK’s leading rights NGOs. Initially, this role will be principally challenging facial recognition surveillance and scrutinising police surveillance/AI powers.
The right Senior Advocacy Officer will help us to lobby UK Parliament to further privacy and wider rights at a critical time – when a legal framework on police use of facial recognition is very soon to be introduced, and police are expanding their use of AI and new surveillance technologies. You’ll build on your strong experience to be a credible and proactive lobbyist in Parliament, write expert briefings and be confident meeting parliamentarians, take a leading role liaising with policy stakeholders, advise on strategic litigation, be a leading advocate in the press and the public forum, develop policy positions on key issues, and help drive our public campaigns for change.
About you
You’ll have 3+ years experience in a legal or policy capacity, or in a comparable advocacy environment that relied on your expertise on technology and rights issues – ideally involving facial recognition. You’ll have a strong track record of advocacy success.
You’ll be familiar with key litigation and policy issues in the area. You’ll also have excellent knowledge of British politics and UK parliamentary procedures and strong political contacts to match.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and driven policy professional to lead Asylum Aid's external policy and advocacy work at a pivotal moment for refugee protection in the UK.
The UK asylum and immigration systems are under sustained pressure. Successive waves of hostile legislation and increasingly difficult political environment have cause serious harm to people seeking international protection and made already complex systems even harder to navigate. At this time there is an urgent need for effective, well-evidenced voices in Parliament, Whitehall and the courts that keeps human experiences at its centre.
Our proactive and prioritised policy advocacy is evidence-led, based on the experiences of survivors, collective expertise and/or the HBF group’s research findings. Asylum Aid, as part of the Helen Bamber Foundation group, uses its legal expertise and evidence to secure ongoing policy and systems change by:
·Providing evidence and recommendations to central government through reports, briefings, consultation responses, oral and written evidence to parliamentary select committees and parliamentary lobbying.
·Ongoing direct engagement on improvements to policy and practice with civil servants in the Home Office, Ministry of Justice and other relevant departments.
·Working collaboratively with others in the asylum, trafficking and children’s sectors to highlight issues in the asylum and trafficking systems, and push for recognition and respect for international asylum, trafficking and human rights obligations.
·Undertaking strategic litigation to secure change that cannot be achieved through policy advocacy.
As Policy Specialist, you will be Asylum Aid's policy and advocacy lead - responsible for shaping our policy positions; driving our advocacy strategy; building and managing coalitions across the sector; and ensuring that the voices and experiences of our clients directly inform our external work. You will be managed by the HBF Group Director of Policy, Evidence and Communications, and work closely with AA’s Executive Director and legal team. As well as coordinating and undertaking joint policy work with HBF, you will ensure close working relationships with partner organisations and coalitions and be a visible and credible presence in the wider refugee and human rights sector.

At Asylum Aid we want to be transparent about what kind of qualities we are looking for and build trust from the very beginning of your journey with us.
