The Boiler House Community Space Charity (BHCS) is a grassroots organisation, we aspire to realise the huge potential in strengthening community networks and in the civil society that we are part of.

We manage three community spaces within estates in Hackney (covering community, early years and youth). We take a person centred approach in everything we do, working across demographics to provide positive, opportunities and support community resilience.

We are looking for an experienced, responsible and responsive individual to work with our youth team to deliver our creative and progressive youth programme.

We are focusing on providing supportive pathways, including 1:1 interventions, engaging activities and partnership working with a focus on skills development and wellbeing.

You will need to be a confident and supportive individual, able to support our young people to gain the awareness, skills and compassion to know what and who they want to be.

About the Role

The Senior Youth Worker (SYW) is an active and exciting role, you will be part of our youth team, focused on providing supportive pathways, including 1:1 intervention, engaging activities and skills development (including boxing).

This is an interactive role! You will be part of the delivery team, tasked with building trusted relationships, coaching and leading youth workers during activities. You will also work with the Managers to devise action and project plans, work through any safeguarding concerns and be part of delivering our exciting and engaging programme of activities, both on and off site.

  •  

Youth & Development Work:

  • This is a busy role, you will need to be confident delivering multiple activities, projects and working with young people, families, staff and external agencies and partners.  
  • Plan and deliver ‘Northwold’s’ weekly youth sessions and activities, upskilling Youth workers to enable them to model appropriate behaviours and deliver sessions independently.
  • To manage a busy case load of allocated young people and provide updates on their presentation, wellbeing and attendance
  • Focus sessions around increasing youth awareness, skills & compassion to know what and who they want to be.
  • Promote positive behaviours, including adaptive coping skills and raising awareness of how to get help, if and when young people need it.
  •  

Boxing & Coaching Work:

  • Providing regular coaching support within our brand new ‘Hope of Hackney Boxing Club’, part of our youth and community programmes, housed within the Northwold community centre.
  • Responsible for managing challenging behaviour within sessions. Supporting the Boxing coaches and volunteers, ensuring the space is safe and regulations are adhered to allowing participants to fully engage in the training.
  • Engage young people in the health and wellbeing benefits of boxing, including; Discipline, fitness and community involvement.  
  • Utilise boxing as a tool to support your action plans and interventions.
  • Ensure all equipment is safety checked and recorded.
  • Enforce rules, regulations, and safety precautions within the boxing facilities.
  • Assist in monitoring fitness activities during training; explain techniques and assists with skills improvement
  • Be an integral link between the Youth Team & Boxing Club to share insights and deepen youth and community support.
  •  

Leadership:

  • Coordinate the youth team to deliver planned activities
  • Work with the managers to deliver projects and services within the centre
  • Act as Safeguarding lead and deputy when managers are off site
  •  

General:

  • To coordinate youth worker and volunteers in delivering their duties.
  • To provide practical behavioural management support and direction to Youth Workers, Project leads and Coaches.
  • To work collaboratively with existing Coaches, Project Leads, Youth Workers and Volunteers.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining equipment and ensuring the venue is in a safe and sanitised condition.
  • To maintain and update registers, case notes, administrative processes, and youth provision records
  • To carry out 1:1 discussion with staff, volunteers and young people and effectively communicate updates to the Senior Management team
  • To flag and report incidents effectively and communicate updates as outlined within the incident reporting process
  • To follow Boiler House Charity’s policies and procedures
  • To attend regular Supervisions
  • Maintain and nurture a positive working relationship with colleagues
  • To work across our community spaces / services when required

Training

  • Training will be provided as part of the extended Boiler House induction.
