We're looking for a Community Based Bereavement Support Worker or Community Based Bereavement Counsellor to help children and young people navigate grief, build resilience and access the support they need. Working across community settings, you will deliver high-quality support that is timely, child-centred and responsive to the needs of each family.

Location: Hybrid/home-based with travel across Coventry and Warwickshire
Hours: 18 hours per week
Salary:
• Community Based Bereavement Support Worker: £23,500–£25,500 FTE (£11,750–£12,750 pro rata)
• Community Based Bereavement Counsellor: £25,500–£27,500 FTE (£12,750–£13,750 pro rata)
Contract: Initial 12-month fixed-term contract
Reporting to: Delivery Team Leader

Appointment will be made as either a Community Based Bereavement Support Worker or Community Based Bereavement Counsellor depending on qualifications, professional registration and experience.

This role provides compassionate, child-centred support to children, young people and families affected by bereavement, helping them navigate grief, build resilience and access support within their communities.

About the Role

This role plays an important part in delivering direct support to bereaved children and young people across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Working closely with the Delivery Team Leader and wider team, the post holder will provide support through group work, one-to-one bereavement support or counselling, and Support to Support pathways for families and professionals.

A central aspect of the role is helping children and young people access the most appropriate support in a timely and meaningful way, including contributing to assessments with families and identifying appropriate pathways of support.

This is a community based role requiring independence, professional judgement and the ability to build positive relationships across a range of settings including schools, community venues and family environments.

You will be joining a small, reflective and supportive team where collaboration, compassion and safe practice are central to how we work.

At Trauma Recovery CIC, our Senior Counsellors (Level 3) work directly with clients, providing:

• time-limited trauma-focused therapy
• longer-term self-funded general counselling

Job Title: Safe Ground Family Counsellor

Location: Based within HMP Forest Bank, Greater Manchester. You may be expected to travel to other services as required, including to Central London Central Office, HMP Altcourse and for in-person meetings held off site. Hybrid working is permitted with an option of up to 2 days working from home when appropriate. Step Free access is not available at this service.

Salary: £36,000

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 07:30 - 17:30. You may be required to work outside these hours as per service and organisational requirements, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays and forming part of the out of hours on call rota for managers. 

About the Role

We’re hiring a Safe Ground Family Counsellor to support men in custody at HMP Forest Bank, located in Manchester.

As a Family Counsellor, you will identify the needs of men and their families in custody , providing anti-punitive, anti-shame, tailored support to maintain and grow family ties for individuals whilst in custody . You will deliver person centred therapeutic support through group, one-to-one and triage sessions, helping participants improve relationships, develop emotional awareness, and build healthier communication. The role includes family counselling clinics, group programme support, and joint work with prison teams and external partners. You will work in a trauma-informed way to support rehabilitation and strengthen family connections. Join us on our mission to empower independence through trauma-informed solutions and dynamic partnerships that keep people out of prison, out of hospital, and off the streets.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Support men who may be facing challenges with family relationships, father-child contact, emotional regulation, trauma, communication difficulties and maintaining positive relationships during custody

• Deliver group and one-to-one counselling sessions, as well as facilitating family counselling clinics

• Support full time delivery of programmes such as Fathers Inside and Man Up, which have received national recognition and are delivered across custodial and community settings

• Create and maintain tailored support plans

• Work with prison teams and external partners to coordinate support
• Bespoke training and active learning will be provided

• Support participants to improve relationships and emotional regulation

• Monitor wellbeing and respond to safeguarding concerns

• Maintain accurate records on internal systems

• Lone working as part of a wider team

About You

We’re looking for a compassionate and motivated individual who understands the needs of men in custody, the importance of anti-shame and anti-punitive practice in these systems, and the importance of family relationships in supporting rehabilitation. You will be comfortable working in a custodial environment and able to build trust with individuals from a range of backgrounds. You will be proactive in managing your workload, able to adapt within a busy service, and confident working both independently and as part of a wider team, often challenging prison cultures. You will be keen to support men in custody to achieve their individual goals and support them to be the best versions of themselves.

• Experience supporting people with trauma, relationship challenges, or within the criminal justice system with BACP registration or equivalent professional accreditation

• Ability to engage with people from different backgrounds, build rapport and support them to achieve their personal goals

• Ability to show empathy and understanding of the challenges people face and adapt approaches to meet individual needs

• Confidence delivering both one-to-one and group-based support

• Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and services, often challenging punitive approaches

• Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs

• Ability and willingness to be flexible in working patterns to meet service needs

• Understanding of the different needs people with multiple and complex needs have and be aware of the social marginalisation that can be attached to people who face personal challenges

The Camp staff team consists of counselors, facilitators, activity leaders and a leadership team, all working together to create and implement the camp programme and contribute to an environment of harmony at Camp. The role of Counsellor is to guide and mentor campers in their day to day experience of camp. Counsellors are by campers' side throughout their journey, encouraging and supporting them along the way.

This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people while developing your own leadership, facilitation, and intercultural communication skills as part of a dedicated team.

Main responsibilities include:

Camper Support and Supervision

• Supervise campers in residential and activity groups, ensuring you know where campers are at all times.
• Get to know each camper individually and provide the support they need to help them have a safe and successful camp experience.
• Support campers in their day-to-day needs, including proactively supporting campers emotional and physical wellbeing and managing camper behaviour.
• Mentor and prioritise the well-being of campers at all times, while acting as a role model and offering guidance and support to campers.
• Collaborate with other staff to address complex issues and ensure camper well-being.
• Maintain open communication with campers to uphold a supportive atmosphere.
• Facilitation of cultural exchange and understanding amongst campers by embracing and celebrating the diverse backgrounds of campers.

Programming and Activities:

• Encourage active participation for campers in all camp activities.

Additional Camp Support

• Contribute to an atmosphere of communication, trust and respect on Camp.
• Collaborate with the Dialogue and Group Challenge team (Dialogue Lead and facilitators) in all aspects of camp life.
• Adhering to all Seeds of Peace policies and procedures, in order to create a Camp environment that is physically and emotionally safe.
• Commitment to professionalism in an informal educational space.
• Provide support and encouragement to other staff members and maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for participants.

• Significant experience working in a multi-cultural environment - knowledge of cultural sensitivities regarding Seeds of Peace delegations

Notes

• This position is residential, meaning meals and accommodation are provided during camp and staff training. Furthermore, the cost of travel to and from camp and cost of Visa Application Fee (if applicable) is covered by Seeds of Peace.
• All staff are required to commit to the full duration of the session July 18th - August 10th and participate in a mandatory staff training held both online prior to camp and in person on camp July 10th - 17th

• Be entitled to work in the UK
• Hold a DBS certificate or be willing to let Seeds of Peace undertake a check on your behalf
• Have a recent safeguarding qualification from a recognised provider or be willing to undertake additional training in this area

This is a new role based on site within the Recruit Training School at RAF Halton, Buckinghamshire.  As an experienced and qualified Counsellor, you will work closely with recruits and staff at the school, supporting recruits to develop the required resilience to successfully complete their training. The focus of the role is to offer wellbeing and emotional support, including one-to-one sessions for recruits struggling with anxiety, low mood, or stress - and where capacity allows to offer these same services to staff.  You will work as part of a wider team of staff at RAF Halton, including military training staff, other pastoral support staff, and an on-site medical team. Importantly as a member of the RAF Benevolent Fund team, you will have access to a whole range of support and resources to call upon – for those you support, and for your professional development.

This role will require the post holder to be proactive and identify areas for enhancing and improving how the job operates.  Shaping strong relationships with the RAF team around you will be vital; as such, you will need to be a clear and confident communicator. Being able to understand the unique culture and challenges of a military environment is key – the Recruit Training School is an OFSTED inspected training school and is the entry point for all non-commissioned joiners to the RAF.  The youngest of these are aged 16, however trainees may also be older, and married with children. You will need to be flexible in your approach to supporting a range of ages and needs.
