To provide information, advice, support and advocacy to the women living within our refuge. You will be responsible for providing women with continuous one-to-one support, practical advice and advocacy and ensuring that the women receive comprehensive support that addresses their physical and mental health, social care, housing, immigration and benefit-related needs.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide a professional high-quality VAWG advocacy and outreach service.
2. Undertake casework and advocacy (this will include liaising with relevant professionals and agencies such as solicitors, social workers, police officers etc.)
3. Provide practical support such as accompanying women to appointments and courts, making reports to such agencies or collecting belongings and otherwise taking all necessary steps to ensure the general safety and wellbeing of women and children.
4. Write assessment reports and support letters, and under supervision, help to collect evidence and statements, as well as undertake some basic legal representation.
5. Undertake risk assessments for referral to the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARACs)
6. Establish links with key partners [local authority, police, health, schools, etc.] to ensure effective referral routes and information sharing protocols.
7. Assist in developing and meeting quality standards in relation to advice and casework. This includes administration and IT systems for advice and casework.
8. Cover the helpline as required.
9. Assist migrant women to access immigration advice, and assist in meeting their housing needs.
10. To undertake campaigning and policy work arising from the advice and casework (this may involve some weekend/evening work)
11. Where necessary to assist staff in organising and running support group activities and consultations for women who are isolated and vulnerable due to their experiences of violence and abuse.
12. To publicise and provide S4S services, and attend, contribute and represent the organisation at relevant local meetings or initiatives.
13. To support and mentor the Women’s Council.
14. Follow S4S policies and procedures, and maintain IT and case file management systems.
15. Contribute to S4S record keeping and provide information for monitoring, evaluation, policy, and research and training purposes.
16. Ensure women are referred to S4S projects and activities as required for example, counselling or group work.
17. Support women residing in the refuge as required.
18. Be self-servicing and to assist other workers when required.
19. Undertake any additional duties which will contribute to the smooth running of the S4S services and projects.

FLEXIBILITY CLAUSE
In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties, however, will fall within the scope of the job at the appropriate grade.

Purpose of the Learning and Engagement Officer role:
As our Learning and Engagement Officer,
Key responsibilities of our Learning and Engagement Officer include:
- Deliver daily programmed activities encompassing both formal and informal learning
- Develop Learning and Engagement (L&E) activities and resources for both formal and informal learners of all ages and abilities
- Ensure administration and organisation of all L&E activities is developed and delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget
- Lead on Museum-initiated or partner events as required
- Lead on term-time provision for the under-fives
- Support the development and delivery of a high standard of visitor experience
- Be fully active in the research, development and delivery of all elements of Learning and Engagement activities on site, offsite and online. This will include public demonstrations and presentations, class facilitation and tours
- Keep up to date with developments in the National Curriculum and with the Learning and Engagement provision in other museums
- In a manner consistent with the Museum’s shared values, work with L&E staff and volunteers and with staff and volunteers across departments to create or support innovative and engaging activities and resources which reduce barriers to learning
- Assist with the processing of L&E team bookings, producing accurate timetables for school activities and other events
- Collate data and report as required on areas including performance, targets and individual key tasks. Assist with research and evaluation projects
- Consult with schools and other partners to ensure the Museum is meeting their need.
Provide suitable feedback mechanisms, collate feedback, identify areas for improvement and
ensure ‘lessons learned’ are shared with colleagues - Provide effective, timely reporting both in writing and through presentations and discussion as required
- Maintain relevant pages of the Museum website, produce promotional materials as required and contribute to the Museum’s social media output
- Monitor the availability of consumable resources, ensuring supplies are ordered in good time
- Assume devolved responsibility for budget management when required
- Contribute actively to risk management for the department
- Contribute to staff and volunteer training and development programmes.
- Lead on Special Educational Needs (SEN) related activities whilst fully participating in all other areas of the teams’ work
What we are looking for in our Learning and Engagement Officer:
- Educated to first degree level or equivalent experience
- Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering formal or informal learning activities
- Experience of working with children
- Excellent verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
- Experience of developing accessible learning activities for SEN audiences
- Knowledge of current H&S regulation including Safeguarding
- Knowledge of / interest in the history and current role of the RAF
- Knowledge of the educational context in which museum learning takes place in the UK
- Knowledge of developments in and the potential of digital and online learning
- Excellent Microsoft Office software skills

About the role
You’ll lead an established and growing team responsible for delivering exceptional supporter care, accurate income processing and the high-quality fundraising compliance. CARIS Families is a small frontline charity that offers holistic support to families experiencing homelessness in hostels in the London Boroughs of Camden and Hackney. Amongst our other services, we run play and learning activities for children aged 0-16 from within 4 hostels in these boroughs, as well as a school holiday day trip programme. Our services for children aim to reduce the stress on children and parents of living in overcrowded, insecure accommodation, and to put back essential childhood experiences that homeless accommodation deprives children of.
The services we currently offer our families in hostels are:
- Kids Club: an after-school play club in term time for 0-16s, run from our dedicated play club in the basement of one family hostel in Camden.
- Enrichment Trips and Summer Programme: a series of day trips for groups of families from our 4 hostels in the school holidays. We take part in exciting activities and visit interesting destinations round London and the South-East, to ease the pressures of being stuck in the hostel during the long school breaks.
- Essentials Bank: Our Essentials bank runs weekly in term-time from two of our hostels, offering families free hygiene products such as toiletries, nappies, washing powder etc. to ease the pressure on family finances at a difficult time.
- Family Support Work and Housing Casework: we offer holistic casework to support families to ease the stress of their situation, from working on finances to supporting employment searches, to assisting with legal cases and supporting them to navigate their housing case and move out of homelessness as soon as possible.
We are currently looking for an experienced Play and Community Worker to join our dedicated frontline Family Services team, delivering this vital support to around 100 children and their families each year.
Responsibilities of the Role
The Play and Community Worker will:
- Deliver play and learning activities for children aged 0-16 at our hostel-based Kids Club’s play sessions during term time in the London Borough of Camden.
- Deliver our Enrichment Trips School Holiday programme during school holidays (in Camden, Hackney and the wider London and South-East England area)
- Deliver our term-time Essentials Bank programme, providing free household goods to families in hostels
- Assist the Services Manager with a range of administrative and operational activities to support the day-to-day running of our Family Services and CARIS Families’ operations as a whole
- Provide a warm and welcoming experience for children and their families attending CARIS Families’ services
- Engage enthusiastically and supportively with children in their play and learning experiences, through staff-led activities and facilitating child-led play
- Work proactively as part of our Family Services team, supporting colleagues, embracing change and contributing ideas to service development within our frontline Family Services.
Person Specification
We are looking for a Play and Community Worker who is:
- Qualified to Level 2 or 3, or prepared to work towards this qualification in: Playwork, Early Years, CYP Workforce, Youth Work or any related area
- Experienced in delivering play within a CYP or community work setting, and working with 0- to 16-year-olds
- Experienced in providing and facilitating safe and creative play experiences
- Passionate about improving opportunities for disadvantaged children
- Understanding of the varied needs of children and their families, and of the impact of trauma and ACE on children’s development and wellbeing
- Able to maintain professional boundaries while supporting parents/carers and children empathetically, and with a person-centred, relational approach.
- Understanding of Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding best practice
- A good communicator, comfortable with working with a wide range of service users and professionals
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office packages and basic web-based software applications (e.g. Canva)
- Reliable and diligent, with good time-keeping skills, who is able to work well as part of a team, take the initiative and lend a helping hand across our fast-changing, responsive frontline work

Collaboration with colleagues is an essential part of this role and you will enjoy working with others and be a valued partner, peer and colleague. Supporting the Head of Community Research and Impact, you will actively contribute to ensuring our impact plan is effectively embedded within key strategic areas. You will need to be highly responsive to the needs of colleagues, partners and funders, and be able to provide practical solutions for a range of situations.

The Church at Carrs Lane, a United Reformed Church and Methodist Church Local Ecumenical Partnership, seeks an experienced, dynamic Project Co-ordinator to represent the church in our city centre redevelopment opposite Moor Street station and near the new Curzon Street (HS2) station, managing the next steps towards establishing and running a new church building and community hub.
The building will be part of a large, mixed-use development in Birmingham City Centre. Working in partnership with Birmingham City Council, community groups and a development partner, our plan is to redevelop the existing church site to create a flexible, eco-friendly space which is the centre for the church and its partners.
You will be a confident and effective communicator, acting as ‘client/church representative’ on this major capital project. You will understand the congregation’s comments and concerns, helping to reach consensus, devise strategy and maintain direction on behalf of the church. You will represent the church to a variety of providers including the Building Development Project Manager and potential partners for the new church building.
Knowledge of the Methodist and/or United Reformed Churches, their structures and practices, and the charity sector, is desirable.
