Making a better life for cats, because life is better with cats
As Innovation Strategy Manager you will lead in helping Battersea learn, experiment and develop new solutions to drive forward our strategic priorities, keeping us relevant, future-focused and generating ever greater impact.
All work is delivered through creativity, collaboration within and outside of Battersea and a deep understanding of our target audiences, balancing ambition and pragmatism.
Why the role exists:
This is a rare opportunity to lead in helping Battersea learn, experiment and develop new solutions to positively impact the lives of cats, dogs, and their owners for years to come. You’ll bring strong strategic thinking, innovation expertise, service design, and leadership skills to an environment focused on meaningful social impact, working alongside a team of smart, compassionate, and experienced colleagues.
This role focuses on broad, organisation-wide innovation - spanning our services, operations, supporter offering, and income generation - with a clear focus on delivering outcomes for animals and the people who care for them. It is not a specialist digital or fundraising role; instead, it centres on identifying the right problems and shaping effective responses. While some initiatives will involve digital elements (and an understanding of this is useful), delivery is carried out by specialist teams both in-house and externally.
Success in this role means identifying high-impact opportunities, aligning stakeholders around them, and ensuring they are taken forward effectively - supporting pilots and implementation where appropriate.
What we can offer you:
In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:
- 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year.
- Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes.
- Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources.
- Generous pension contributions - up to 10% employer contribution.
- Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year.
- Annual interest-free season ticket loans.
We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.
Our hybrid working model:
We operate a 50% onsite hybrid working model, with our office-based staff splitting their time between site based and home working. This enables our office-based staff to balance the benefits of home working with onsite collaboration and maintaining a connection to our cause.
Diversity and inclusion:
We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for all staff, volunteers and trustees and those hoping to join us. We operate an anonymised shortlisting process and actively seek to ensure our process is fair and equitable for all.
We understand the value of diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences to help us deliver even more for our dogs and cats, and we welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we will ask about any adjustments you may need at application and/or interview stage, and if you are offered a role with us, we’ll talk to you about any workplace adjustments you may need to help you perform at your best. Greyscale copies of the recruitment pack are also available on request.
More about us:
At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love, expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them. Join us and help us be here for every dog and cat, wherever they are, for as long as they need us.
Acceptable use of AI:
At Battersea, we value expertise. We recognise each candidate that applies to us will have a range of expertise they can offer us, so we want to hear about this in your own words. We understand the support that generative artificial intelligence (AI) software can offer but it can also lead to numerous applications presenting as generic and impersonal. This makes it difficult to gain understanding of your unique experience.
To best showcase yourself, we encourage you to write your responses without the assistance of AI. If you require the use of AI software to aid in completing your application, we ask you use the generative responses as a prompt for writing your answers and avoid copying and pasting. You must also ensure the information presented in your application accurately reflects your experience.
Closing date: 22nd September 2026
All applications must be submitted before the closing date advertised. We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a high volume of applications is received.
Interview date(s):
First Round (online): 30th September & 1st October 2026
Second Round (in-person): To be confirmed

Help lead the next chapter of an award-winning, volunteer-powered environmental charity
As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, Shrewsbury Food Hub is looking for an inclusive, practical and strategically minded Executive Director to lead us through the next phase of our development.
We have a simple vision: a community where food is valued and not wasted.
Founded in 2016, we rescue surplus food seven days a week from local suppliers and redistribute it through charities, community groups, schools and Foodshares. In the year to March 2026 alone, we rescued more than 270 tonnes of food, with our work reaching an estimated 4,000 people every week across Shrewsbury and the surrounding area.
We have also developed a growing programme of community cooking, bringing people together to build skills and confidence, share food and strengthen community – while ensuring that good food does not go to waste.
The opportunity
Shrewsbury Food Hub has grown significantly over the past decade. Our next Executive Director will help us build on that success while strengthening the foundations beneath it.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead an established and much-loved local charity through a period of organisational development: bringing greater clarity, focus, structure and resilience while protecting the energy, relationships and community spirit that make the Hub special.
The Board is committed to focusing increasingly on governance and delegating day-to-day leadership and management to the Executive Director. You will have the authority and responsibility to lead the organisation, work closely with our Senior Leadership Team and create the conditions in which staff and volunteers can perform at their best.
This is not a figurehead role. We need an Executive Director who can see the bigger picture, make difficult choices and turn strategy into practical action – someone equally comfortable around the Board table and spending time with the staff, volunteers and partners who make our work possible.
This role is largely based in Shrewsbury, with some home working possible. This is a strongly place-based role requiring a regular and visible on-site presence.
What you will lead
Working with the Board, staff, volunteers and partners, you will:
- Lead the development and delivery of a clear, focused and financially sustainable strategy.
- Strengthen our structures, systems, processes and ways of working, leading organisational change with clarity and sensitivity.
- Provide overall leadership for safe, reliable and effective operations and organisational risk.
- Build an inclusive, enabling and accountable culture, supporting and developing our Senior Leadership Team and wider community of staff and volunteers.
- Oversee financial sustainability and the development of a strong, balanced income base.
- Build trusted relationships with funders, suppliers, businesses, local authorities and community partners, acting as a visible and credible ambassador for the Hub.
Please see the full Job Description and Person Specification for further details.
Who are we looking for?
You will bring successful senior leadership experience from a charity, social enterprise, public service or other purpose-led organisation, together with experience of shaping strategy, leading change and turning plans into results.
You will be financially astute, pragmatic and comfortable creating clarity in a busy organisation. Above all, you will be a genuine people leader: emotionally intelligent, approachable and able to build trust across a diverse community of staff, volunteers, trustees, founders and partners.
We don't expect our new Executive Director to be a specialist in everything. You may bring particular depth in operational and organisational leadership or in income generation, fundraising and external development. What matters is that you have credible experience of the other and the leadership ability to bring different expertise together.
Previous Executive Director experience is welcome, but is not essential.
Our values
We want our new Executive Director to share our commitment to reducing food waste and strengthening our community, and to lead in a way that reflects our values:
Passion – Accountability – Inclusiveness – Integrity – Caring – Resilience
These values shape not only what we do, but how we work together. We are looking for a leader who enables others to succeed, listens to different perspectives, acts with integrity and empathy, and remains purposeful and constructive through change.
Our ambitions remain firmly rooted in place. We believe there is significant potential to deepen our environmental and social impact across Shrewsbury and Shropshire, rather than becoming a national organisation.
How to apply:
Please submit your CV and a covering letter of no more than three pages, outlining your suitability for the role, by 5pm on Friday 25 September 2026.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit Shrewsbury Food Hub on Monday 5 October 2026, providing an opportunity to meet the team, see the Hub in action and gain a deeper understanding of the organisation ahead of formal interviews.
Shrewsbury Food Hub values the strength that comes from different experiences and perspectives. We welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process.

We help high-impact nonprofits run brilliantly - now we need someone to do the same for us. You'll own Impact Ops' finances, payroll, contracts and compliance, reporting straight to the founder.
Summary
Impact Ops is looking for a Finance & Operations Manager to join our team. This is a newly created, internal-facing role: rather than working on client portfolios, you’ll own the financial and operational machinery of Impact Ops itself. The salary range for this role is £50,000–£60,000 GBP, depending on experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
We’re looking for a qualified accountant who is genuinely happy to be hands-on, someone who can handle a corporation tax return and a contracting in the same afternoon and see both as worth doing well. If you want breadth, autonomy, and a role where you can see the whole organisation from the inside, we’d love to hear from you. The deadline to apply is 11 October 2026.
About Impact Ops
Impact Ops is an independent organization providing finance and operations support to high-impact nonprofits. Our services include bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll, recruitment, entity setup, due diligence, and systems implementation. We serve over 50 clients globally, spanning cause areas including global health, animal welfare, AI safety, and climate.
We’re a remote-first team based across the world. We’re looking for motivated, detail-oriented people who care about doing good work in service of organizations trying to do good in the world.
The role
Everything we do for our clients, we also have to do for ourselves — and to date that work has been spread across the founder, the finance team, and external accountants. This role brings it together under one owner.
As Finance & Operations Manager, you’ll run Impact Ops’ own finances, company secretarial obligations, payroll, invoicing, contracting, and HR administration. You’ll report to Joshua Axford (Founder & CEO) and work closely with Eric (Head of Finance), who leads our client-facing finance function.
It’s a broad role with real trust attached. You’ll have visibility into every commercially sensitive part of the business, and you’ll be the person we rely on to keep it running properly.
Finance
- Owning Impact Ops’ bookkeeping, month-end close, and management accounts
- Preparing annual accounts
- Cash flow forecasting and budget tracking
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable: raising client invoices, chasing payment, processing supplier invoices and payment runs
- VAT returns and corporation tax submissions
Company secretarial & compliance
- Confirmation statements, annual returns, and Companies House filings
- Maintaining statutory registers and corporate records
- Insurance renewals across the group, including professional indemnity, private medical and employers’ liability
Payroll
- Running end-to-end monthly payroll for our UK team, including RTI submissions, PAYE/NI, and pension auto-enrolment
- Coordinating payments for team members engaged internationally across several jurisdictions
- Year-end tasks including P60s and P11Ds
Contracts & client administration
- Drafting, issuing, and tracking client Service Level Agreements
- Managing employment contracts and contractor agreements for the team
- Maintaining a reliable view of contractual obligations, renewal dates, and scope changes
HR administration
- Onboarding and offboarding administration
- Maintaining people records and keeping our HR systems accurate
- Leave tracking, benefits administration, and equipment provisioning
About you
You’ll need to have:
- A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) — or qualified by experience with a track record that speaks for itself
- Experience running or providing accounting support for the finance function of a small business, or a comparable breadth of ownership within a larger one
- UK payroll experience, or the confidence to take it on with support
- Genuine comfort with administrative work: this role is hands on and we’d rather be honest about that than have you discover it in month two
- Strong judgement about confidentiality and discretion — you’ll see everything
- The ability to work independently in a remote environment and set your own priorities
- A genuine desire to have a positive impact with your career
It would be a bonus if you also have:
- Practice background: experience in an accountancy practice, particularly with company secretarial work
- Contract administration experience: comfort reading and drafting commercial agreements
- Familiarity with our tool stack: Xero, Ramp, Deel, Apron, or similar
- A process improvement mindset: you spot inefficiencies and take initiative to address them
- Commercial exposure: experience with pricing, proposals, or commercial analysis — not required for the role as scoped, but useful as it develops
Compensation & logistics
- Salary: £50,000–£60,000 GBP, depending on experience. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.
- Location: Remote, but we have a strong preference for candidates based in the UK and specifically the South West. This role involves periodic in-person co-working with the CEO, and the trust-level nature of the work benefits from face-to-face time.
- Hours: Full-time, or part-time (at least 3 days a week or equivalent) depending on candidate preference
- Start date: 1 December 2026 preferred, but we’re flexible for the right person — a Q1 2027 start is fine if you have a longer notice period
- Application deadline: 11 October 2026
Growth & Progression
We’re deliberately hiring above the immediate need. The brief described here is where the role starts, not where we expect it to stay: as Impact Ops scales, we anticipate significant operational leadership responsibility sitting with whoever takes this on, and we’d rather find that person now than replace them later.
We’re looking for someone who wants to grow with the business.
Our benefits include:
- Prioritised health & wellbeing: Private medical, vision, and dental insurance; up to 2 weeks’ paid sick leave; a generous mental health allowance
- Flexible working: Set your own schedule (with some overlap with colleagues as needed); remote workspace covered if needed
- Generous vacation: 25 days’ holiday per year plus public holidays — we encourage you to use the full allowance
- Professional development: A generous annual allowance for CPD, plus on-the-job growth and clear progression pathways
- Retirement: Pension with 10% employer contribution
- Parental leave: Up to 14 weeks fully paid, up to 52 weeks total; financial support for childcare where needed
- Equipment: Full remote setup covered (laptop, monitors, chair, etc.)
