Department Overview
Our University has a proud history of philanthropy stretching back to its foundation in 1900. With a clear vision to change the lives of the people of Birmingham, Joseph Chamberlain raised the funds required to build the University from citizens and corporations based locally and around the globe. Since then philanthropy has continued to play an important role in shaping the University. There have been a number of fundraising campaigns, including a £1m urgent capital appeal after the Second World War and a £1.4m campaign to fund the Vale ‘student village’ in the 1960s. In 2015 we closed the Circles of Influence Campaign, raising £193 million, making it the largest HE fundraising campaign outside Oxbridge and London.
The University has global reach, including several partnerships with other leading universities around the world, and is grounded in its local community, having opened the first fully comprehensive University secondary school in the country in 2015. We are an ambitious and successful research-intensive University (one of the top 100 research-led universities globally) and have produced 10 Nobel Prize winners, including three who received their awards in 2016. The Office, which is comprised of five teams, is focused on fundraising and volunteering from alumni, organisations and individuals who are passionate about changing lives, through funding various research trials, supporting student bursaries, mentoring students, and providing internships.

The University of Birmingham is recruiting a Corporate Philanthropy Manager, an exciting role that will join us in our ambitious ‘Birmingham in Action’ campaign and help us to grow our philanthropic income. You will manage a portfolio of corporate partners and prospects and will work with colleagues across the University to develop a pipeline of significant philanthropic gifts across priority themes and projects, with the opportunity to shape these based on your fundraising experience. A key member of the Development and Alumni Relations Office’s (DARO) Charitable Partnerships team, you will identify, create and manage corporate philanthropic partnerships with local, national and global businesses. You will have an enthusiasm for building relationships, the skill to interact with high-level corporate professionals and academics, along with the ability to translate complex information into a compelling case for support.
The Corporate Philanthropy Manager will be responsible for:
- Developing and strengthening relationships with key current corporate funders to the University to grow philanthropic income.
- Identifying and building relationships with new corporate funders with the opportunity to raise five and six figure gifts.
- Managing a pipeline of short, medium and long-term funding applications and relationships to enable year-on-year corporate philanthropy income growth.
- Oversight of key campaign programmes.
- Building close working relationships with academics, alongside other University colleagues, to find information needed to write clear and compelling proposals on existing and new areas of research, that aligns with the strategic priorities of corporate funders.
- Build effective, co-ordinated, working relationships with a range of external stakeholders.
- Managing the whole donor journey of a corporate funder, from identification to acknowledgement and stewardship.
- Meeting reporting objectives of funders and ensuring an excellent experience for funders.
- Efficiently use the Customer Relationship Management system to record and report on activity.
- Be responsible for adhering to relevant fundraising regulation and current data legislation in the UK and in target markets whilst ensuring fundraising is ethical and that due diligence is undertaken as necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
- Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications). Where no equivalent qualification is held, significant practical relevant experience and expertise in a similar role will be required.

Skills and Responsibilities
On-Boarding & Compliance
- Coordinate all aspects of the onboarding and compliance process and ensure that the processes are completed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner, including: issuing contracts, pre-employment compliance checks, and keying new starters/setting up new starters on the onboarding system.
- Ensure the accurate entry and maintenance of data onto the relevant HR Systems/ spreadsheets, by employing robust quality assurance and due diligence measures.
- Be the subject matter expert for Access Recruit & Onboarding and Better Impact for the team, the candidates/onboardees and the wider organisation

Role Purpose

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and present dishes to a consistently high standard in line with recipes, dietary requirements and allergen procedures
- Support the kitchen team in maintaining excellent food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness standards
- Ensure all food is prepared, stored, and served safely and correctly, including regular date and quality checks
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen and restaurant environment at all times
- Assist with soups, daily specials, and menu items, contributing ideas where appropriate
- Support special events, functions, and private bookings when required
- Work collaboratively with the Head Chef to develop new dishes and products, including promoting Caring For Life farm produce where possible

About the team
The Philanthropy Team raises income for Impetus and for Impetus partner charities. The team consists of 15 staff. Impetus has an annual income of c.£11 million which we are looking to grow significantly within the next few years. The team is led by the Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships.
The Philanthropy Team works with major donors, corporates and grant making trusts, as well as collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure we make a compelling case to generate new financial commitments and wider support for our work. The team also deliver a high-quality engagement programme of volunteering and pro bono for Impetus’s corporate supporters.
Impetus is driven by a shared belief in tackling the barriers that hold back young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in education and employment. Alongside investing extensive financial and non-financial support in our charity partners through our Investment Team we also seek to influence decision makers to design and implement evidence led policy and direct new resources to get young people the support they need through our Public Affairs team. About this role
This role is a 12‑month maternity cover, supporting an important phase of delivery and development within the Philanthropy team. The postholder will work closely with colleagues to maintain momentum in new business activity while contributing to strategic account management and stewardship.
The Head of Development is a senior role within the Philanthropy Team, with a primary focus on new business development. This includes identifying, cultivating and securing new funding relationships across trusts, foundations, corporates, co‑investment partners and high‑net‑worth individuals.
Alongside new business delivery, the role also provides strategic account management for a small portfolio of high-value partners, ensuring smooth transitions from acquisition into long term stewardship.
This role works alongside the Head of Philanthropy, with both roles contributing to the success of the Philanthropy Team. The Head of Philanthropy leads on deep stewardship and retention, while the Head of Development focusses on new income generation and building relationships with new funders and partners.
The postholder will work closely with the Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships, Philanthropy Directors as well as Senior Research and Insights Manager, contributing specialist expertise, strong delivery and sound judgement, while operating within agreed strategy and governance frameworks.
Key responsibilities:
New business development
- Support the Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships and Development Director on the development and delivery of the new business plan in line with the fundraising strategy
- Works with the Senior Research and Insights Manager to identify emerging funding trends, opportunities, market opportunities and best practice
- In collaboration with the Development Director and Growth and Insights Director, lead the delivery of agreed cultivation strategies for priority prospects, proactively progressing relationships from qualification through to solicitation and conversion, leveraging senior stakeholders, board members, donor advocates and wider networks
- Develop and deliver compelling cultivation strategies and tailored pitch plans for priority prospects, including designing and building new donor acquisition vehicles (e.g. committees, cultivation events and targeted communications), working collaboratively with colleagues across Impetus
- Lead and support high-level meetings, pitches and negotiations with prospective donors, positioning Impetus as a credible and strategic partner
- Work with trustees, senior leaders and pro bono supporters to leverage networks and secure introductions to new prospects
- Ensure high-quality written and verbal communications with prospective donors
Account management and stewardship
- Build and maintain professional, long-term relationships within the portfolio, escalating strategic issues or risks promptly.
- Manage a targeted portfolio of high-value donors of six figures and supports on seven figure partnerships, ensuring excellent stewardship, timelyreporting and meaningful engagement
- Act as a relationship lead for selected donors, building trust and ensuring a smooth transition from new business to long-term stewardship
- Own and deliver tailored account plans for assigned donors, with a focus on renewal, upgrade and long-term relationship value
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality donor communications for assigned donors, including reports, impact updates, and engagement opportunities
- Ensure robust portfolio management, including accurate forecasting, pipeline management, and use of CRM systems
- Identify opportunities to deepen relationships through increased giving, multi-year commitments or broader engagement with Impetus’ work
- Works closely with Development Director on supporting Funds i.e. Connect, Skills, Attainment or Engage as needed
- Supports or leads on committees such as Futures or Real estate
- Represent Impetus externally with professionalism and credibility
Cross-team working and organisation contribution
- Build and maintain professional, long-term relationships within the portfolio, escalating strategic issues or risks promptly.
- Ensure consistent standards and best practice across account management and donor stewardship
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Philanthropy to ensure seamless handover from acquisition to stewardship and a coherent donor experience.

- Champion best practice in prospecting, pipeline management and new business development across the team

Person specification
Essential:
- A strong track record of raising six-figure+ philanthropic income from grant-making trusts and foundations, corporate foundations and/or individual donors, including experience with high-net-worth individuals
- Proven ability to lead and deliver the full fundraising cycle, from prospecting and cultivation through to solicitation, stewardship and renewal
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning and delivery skills, with the ability to generate ideas, translate them into practical account plans, and execute them effectively
- Excellent research, prospecting and qualification skills, with the judgement to prioritise high-value opportunities
- A proactive, creative and innovative approach to fundraising, with the ability to adapt and develop creative donor centred approaches
- Experience operating with senior stakeholders, including trustees, board members and other high-level external partners
- Outstanding relationship management skills, with the ability to establish, manage and deepen trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Highly collaborative, contributing positively to team objectives and cross-organisational priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate impact and value clearly and persuasively
- Strong financial and portfolio management skills, including the ability to plan, forecast and deliver against income targets and budgets

Desirable
- Experience managing and stewarding multi-year, five- to seven-figure partnerships.

Crisis Skylight Merseyside offer direct services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Alongside our frontline service offer, we develop and lead strategy and partnership projects to deliver positive change for homeless people in Merseyside.

About the role
As a Reception/Administrator for the Skylight, you will play a key role in supporting the Skylight team to support individuals that are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will ensure that the Skylight runs effectively and efficiently. You will deliver the right processes and support for your colleagues to have an effective and impactful role in supporting Crisis members to prevent and end their homelessness.
You will be the first point of contact for anyone contacting the Skylight Centre and will provide a positive welcome to Crisis, being an ambassador for our services.
The key to success will be your ability to collaborate constructively and effectively as part of the Crisis team.
As a Reception/Administrator as part of the front of house team you will:
· Cover all reception responsibilities providing a safe and welcoming area for Skylight staff, clients and volunteers, providing effective Information and Guidance (IAG) to the vulnerable client group.
· Be responsible for the official opening/closing of the office in line with the H&S policies.
· Assess members at reception upon presentation and take appropriate action as to whether it is safe for them or others to access the service at that time utilising a trauma informed approach in line with confidentiality policies and procedures.
· Provide efficient and effective administrative and logistical support to the Crisis Skylight team, ensuring that all systems and structures contribute to the delivery of high-quality services to members and the smooth running of the office.
The key to success will be your ability to collaborate constructively and effectively as part of the Crisis team.
Skills, knowledge, and experience vital to succeeding in this role:
· Experience of providing customer service and advice within a reception environment, with a commitment to deliver the highest standard of customer care.
· Experience of working with vulnerable or marginalised groups, assessing need and providing information, advice and guidance.
· Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills with the ability to successfully manage a busy and diverse workload.
· Experience of providing administrative support including updating Case Management Systems, general office duties and maintaining accurate records.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work successfully with disadvantaged /or socially excluded groups and individuals.

About the Role
As Clinical Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of the clinic, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversight of all clinical areas and standards
- Leadership, supervision, and safeguarding of the nursing team
- Coordinating doctors, surgeons, and anaesthetists
- Acting as the main point of contact for clinical and safeguarding matters
- Contributing as a core member of the clinic’s supervisory team
You will be supported by well-established protocols, robust support systems, and a bespoke training programme designed around your clinical background. Prior experience in sexual and reproductive health is welcomed but not essential, as full specialist training will be provided.

As an Internal Auditor, you will carry out detailed financial audits across a wide range of social care settings, including residential care, supported living, and extra care services. This is a hands‑on, varied role that involves significant national travel and provides the opportunity to directly observe and influence financial practices in frontline services, both safeguarding and empowering the people who we support.
Working largely independently during service visits, you will review financial records, assess financial controls, identify areas of concern or risk, and support services to improve their governance and compliance. You will act as a trusted advisor to managers and frontline staff, offering guidance, problem‑solving support, and training where required.
Your work will help ensure that individuals receiving financial support, each with different levels of capacity, experience safe, empowering, and well‑managed financial care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned and unplanned financial audits nationwide, typically completing three audits per week (including occasional overnight stays).
- Produce clear, detailed audit reports outlining findings, risks, and required improvements.
- Identify financial irregularities, risks, or non‑compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Escalate potential fraud or financial mismanagement in line with organisational procedures.
- Support investigations into financial concerns or discrepancies.
- Provide practical advice, coaching, and on‑site problem‑solving support to service teams.
- Deliver training to staff on financial responsibilities, procedures, and best practice.
- Analyse patterns and trends to contribute to wider policy, system, and training improvements.
- Represent the Internal Audit function in meetings and share key insights.
- Assist with financial incident management processes.
- Work proactively, managing your own schedule while providing regular updates to your line manager.

About You

- Able to travel regularly across the country, including overnight stays.

Experience in auditing, financial governance, or social care is advantageous, but we welcome applicants from a range of professional backgrounds who can demonstrate the right skills and values.
