Programme Overview
Connect to Work is a UK government-funded initiative aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities, health conditions, or other complex challenges in finding and maintaining employment. The program offers tailored assistance, including one-to-one coaching, employer engagement and help with CV writing. Participants can receive up to 12 months of guidance if they are seeking employment, or up to 4 months if they are currently employed but at risk of losing their job. Support is delivered through local partnerships, and individuals can either self-refer or be referred by professionals and community partners.
We are recruiting for 2 seperate Employment Specialist roles, one for Berkshire and the other for Oxfordshire.The Employment Specialist will play a vital role in the success of the programme these areas. They will manage a caseload of up to 25 service users, delivering person centred support to create and follow an individualised workplan, engaging with employers directly to support people into good and sustainable work. They will be enthusiastic and passionate about helping people to find that role that works for them.
Location and Salary
The contracts covers Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Delivery is expected throughout a network of community venues and with specialist partners. Salary will be £27,976 - £29,000 depending on experience. Travel expenses over and above those to the agreed base location will be reimbursed.
Primary Duties and responsibilities:

In Hampshire we will be delivering Lot 2 – aimed at supporting victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse. We will be working alongside Stop Domestic Abuse and other local partners and domestic abuse charities across the area to deliver a joined up and tailored support for this specific cohort.

Role purpose statement: The Programme Assistant, Enquiries plays a vital role in the Fellowship Programme working directly with academics facing immediate risk in their home countries to carry out due diligence or signposting. This includes managing an individual caseload, dealing with prospective applications and general enquiries, providing administrative support to the Enquiries team as well as support across the Fellowship Programme when needed.
Organisational Background
The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to rescue academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. A number of Cara’s founders and Council members also personally provided places and/or funds to help individual academics; and Cara, known in the 1930s as the AAC, later the SPSL, was closely involved in the successful effort in 1933 to bring to London the Warburg Institute art library, which had been prohibited by the Nazis, and six of its staff. The Fellowship Programme is the continuation of the rescue mission operation started in 1933.
Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for over 90 years, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Cara support is typically framed as temporary sanctuary offered at times of heightened risk.
Cara Objectives ‘To assist academics who have been, or are, or are at risk of being, subject to discrimination, persecution, suffering or violence on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, to relieve needs among them and their dependants and ensure that their specialist knowledge and abilities can continue to be used for the benefit of the public.’
‘To advance education by supporting academics and their educational institutions in countries where their continuing work is at risk or compromised, to ensure that such academics and institutions can continue to fulfil their critical role as educators for the public benefit.’

Role & Responsibilities
Casework

Signposting prospective applicants to the application form.

Manage own caseload, preparing cases for eligibility review, including arranging calls to speak with applicants, booking English language tests, and gathering all relevant documentation.

Job Title: Lead Strategist, Methane (Maternity Cover)

The Role
Catalysing support for high-impact legal strategies on methane mitigation by mapping opportunities, aligning stakeholders across the legal ecosystem, and strengthening the ecosystem’s capacity for collective action on methane emissions with systemic-change potential in a shifting legal and political landscape. Supporting colleagues in relevant FILE grant-making portfolios to make well-informed decisions with respect to funding partners working to address methane emissions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy development:Leading the design and evolution of innovative funding and convening strategies to support legal action aimed at reducing methane emissions from fossil fuel extraction processes, agriculture and waste, working in close collaboration with legal and grantmaking experts, and supporting civil society to build capacity, to address the contribution of methane emissions to the climate, health and biodiversity crises.
Collaboration and movement strengthening: Organizing knowledge-sharing sessions between ecosystem actors across regions, sectors and expertise, acting as a coordinator for the established communities of practice working on legal interventions targeting methane emissions, and coordinating activities related to methane legal interventions at major climate convenings.
Grantmaking, impact and learning: Producing research notes on emerging trends and upcoming initiatives that can benefit the ecosystem, and liaising with academic and research organizations on expanding insights useful for practitioners in the field.
Supporting colleagues in relevant FILE grant-making portfolios to make well-informed decisions with respect to funding partners working to address methane emissions.
Philanthropic engagement: Engaging with the broader philanthropic ecosystem as an expert thought partner, to deepen understanding of strategic approaches and outlining the potential collective and complementary opportunities, and organizing donor-engagement touchpoints through both bilateral meetings and annual roundtables or group sessions.

FILE is a ‘regrantor’ - this means we do not bring legal action in our own name. BACKGROUND
Church of England Birmingham (CofEB) is on a journey of growing churches at the heart of every community. Through this we are seeing growth in many exciting ways. Financially we are at a challenging point. We have had an operational deficit for a number of years and this cannot continue. The National Church has agreed to partner with us around this through their Diocesan Investment Programme enabling us to have the time, and resource, to tackle this head on. One key aspect of this is for us to increase our Common Fund returns (the giving from our parishes that supports the costs of our life together). We are taking a radical new approach to our finances which includes intentional reallocation of income to support the costs in our most economically deprived parishes and deeper relationships with each parish around finance through conversation rather than correspondence. Over the next five years we are hoping to be able to move to a financially sustainable platform which will enable us to better serve our communities in the future.
We have recently recruited a new Head of Generosity, who is also Bishops Advisor for Common Fund, to lead on this work and we are now looking to recruit the team to work with them. The focus of the team is to develop long term relationships with all of our parishes leading to:
- Greater support for our parishes.
- Increased generosity by, and within, our parishes.
- Increased Common Fund.
The current plan is to recruit two Giving & Generosity Advisor roles and one Giving & Generosity Support Officer role. Together this team will work with all of our parishes to roll out our financial approach, through in person meetings, and the support that is on offer as part of this.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The primary focus of this role is to work with parishes to:
- Understand their current financial situation and how this links to the wider Church of England Birmingham situation.
- Understand our model and how support is on offer for parishes who are economically deprived.
- Assess with them the support needed to increase generosity and giving at a local level and create an action plan around this that is bespoke and contextual.
- Create a long-term plan for their participation in the common fund.
We have 146 parishes and the Head of Generosity will manage the team so that all parishes can be engaged as quickly as possible. It is the Head of Generosity and two Giving & Generosity Advisors who will be carrying out the in-person meetings with each parish. These roles will work closely with a range of people and teams across Church of England Birmingham so that this work is integrated within our wider strategy and parishes are not confused by multiple disjointed initiatives. This will mean working with Archdeacons and Area Deans, Mission Support Team, Ministry Team, Property Team, Finance Team, Community Regeneration Team and Communications Team as well as others.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Develop strong relationships with parishes that will enable this project to flourish and also help increase the connection between parishes and the DBF. Signposting to other teams and projects will be important.
- Inspiring and encouraging parishes in their Christian approach to giving and generosity
- Creating bespoke multiyear plans for Common Fund with parishes with the support of a Steering Group that includes the Archdeacons and other key stakeholders.
- Provide consultancy, resources, and hands-on support to parishes to grow regular giving, legacies, and other forms of financial support. This work will be able to draw on the resources developed by the national church as well as the data held on their Cornerstone Grants Platform. The post-holder will be expected to engage in the work of the National Giving Team as part of the development of these wider resources.
- Develop and deliver training for clergy, lay leaders and PCCs on the theology and Christian practice of giving and generosity and also practical financial management (in conjunction with the Finance Team).
- Work closely with the Finance Team in matters of technical accounting, governance and financial management identified as needed by parishes.
- Encourage and assist parishes in the implementation of the Parish Giving Scheme, introduction of contactless giving mechanisms and related diocesan resources.
- Source, develop and curate practical resources (digital and print) to support local stewardship campaigns and initiatives.
- Evaluate the impact of stewardship and generosity initiatives and adapt strategies accordingly to achieve the project outcomes.
- Working with our Communications Team, create compelling communication tools that articulate the impact of generosity.
As we are looking to recruit two people into these roles there is flexibility to appoint people with complementary skill sets who may have greater expertise in certain elements of the role.

- Be the first point of contact for parishes when they have questions around Giving and Generosity.
- Manage activities and processes that enable the project to function e.g. a scheme to loan out contact giving devices.
- Support in the creation of resources and communication pieces.
- Keep the teams external, and internal, communication streams up to date (including website, and praying together). Ensuring that the team has a presence in all key CofEB channels.
- Encourage and assist parishes in the implementation of the Parish Giving Scheme, introduction of contactless giving mechanisms and related diocesan resources.
- Support the scheduling and support for training. This will be for clergy, treasurers and others.
- Manage the collation of data and information so progress of the team is clear and evidenced.
- Undertake resource projects.
- Support the Head of Generosity to respond to new and emerging needs and opportunities.

Join Our Legal Office
The Legal Office is the in-house provider of legal services to the national policy-making and governance institutions of the Church of England (the National Church Institutions, "NCIs"), which are some of the largest charities in the UK (including statutory corporations and a Royal Charter corporation), the largest of which are the Archbishops' Council, a national policy and strategic decision-making body, the Church Commissioners, a substantial endowment fund with assets valued at £11.1bn (2024) which has positioned itself at the forefront of Responsible Investment and which supports the mission of the Church, and the Church of England Pensions Board which stewards a £3.4bn fund. The Legal Office also advises the General Synod, which is a legislative assembly which makes primary and secondary legislation subject to the approval of Parliament.
We are a small, inclusive team which will comprise 17 legally qualified staff, with three paralegals and two support staff. Our professional backgrounds are diverse, with members coming to us from private practice in law firms, the Bar, from government, and from regulators.
Our work is firmly values led and requires the provision of advice on diverse and intellectually stimulating points of law at the intersection of public and private law. The team works on a hybrid basis. Most team members work 1 - 2 days per week in the office depending on business need. You will need to be available in person for some items of committee and legislative business including two weeks each year for the sittings of the General Synod for which plenty of notice will be given.
About the role
As a member of the Legal Office Advisory Team, you will be providing legal services to the National Institutions of the Church of England, focused on giving legal advice across a diverse and interesting range of subjects which bear on the operations of the Church Commissioners and other parts of the national Church of England.
You will be joining us at an exciting time for the organisation and the role will offer you the opportunity for genuine career growth and development in a supportive environment, including interaction with some of the most senior stakeholders in the organisation. You will be able to take a leading and meaningful role in existing and new projects.
You will also be a member of the Legal Office's advisory team, undertaking as appropriate a wider range of duties as a legal adviser within the National Church Institutions.
In this role, you will:
- Working with senior colleagues and stakeholders to provide advice to the Church Commissioners, Archbishops' Council, and Church of England Pensions Board, their committees and departments on legal and procedural issues including constitutional and governance matters, legal powers, and statutory interpretation.
- Working with colleagues to support the work of the Church of England's legislative and deliberative assembly, the General Synod, including the passage of legislation.
- Supporting senior colleagues and stakeholders to support the work of a national board level committee which adjudicates on proposals for the re-organisation of the Church of England and the future of its historic and unique buildings (similar in nature to a planning committee), including advising on legal questions, drafting statements of reasons, and appeals.
- Supporting senior colleagues and stakeholders to support the Church Commissioners' co-regulation of cathedrals along with the Charity Commission.
- Working with stakeholders and senior colleagues to support several national change management programmes including the establishment of a national redress scheme
- Supporting the development and roll out of training and knowledge management across the national Church of England.

We’re hiring a Fundraising Officer at WeSwim, this is a relationship-led fundraising role with real ownership and influence.
At WeSwim, we support disabled adults to swim in welcoming, inclusive volunteer run clubs across London. For many of our swimmers, the water offers a new freedom, easing pain, building confidence, and opening up new ways to move and connect. Our work is powered by community, care and people who believe swimming should be accessible to everyone.
We are looking for a Fundraising Officer to lead our community fundraising and individual giving efforts and help shape the future of WeSwim’s income.
We already have a strong community of swimmers and volunteers who care deeply about WeSwim. In this role, you’ll work with the community to create more fundraising activitym supporting our members to fundraise in ways that feel achievable, inclusive and meaningful. You’ll be the main point of contact for community fundraisers, creating simple tools and resources that help people feel confident getting involved.
You’ll also work closely with the CEO to develop and grow WeSwim’s individual giving and monthly donations, helping to transform our mix of income over time.
You’ll build thoughtful supporter journeys, create simple and engaging fundraising resources, and help deliver campaigns that clearly show the impact of WeSwim’s work. No two weeks will look the same, but every week will be purposeful and people-centred.
This is a part-time role (15 hours per week) with a high level of trust, autonomy and collaboration. It’s ideal for a proactive fundraiser who enjoys building relationships, thinking creatively and taking ownership. Someone who wants to be close to the ground and see their work make a tangible difference in a small charity.
Every strong supporter relationship you build will help to keep our clubs running, welcomes new swimmers into the water, and strengthens the community that makes WeSwim possible.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Fundraising
- Inspire & support individuals and groups to run their own fundraising activities (e.g., bake sales, swim challenges, quiz nights).
- Act as the primary contact for all community fundraisers, including swimmers, volunteers, supporters, and local groups.
- Develop accessible fundraising resources and an annual plan of community fundraising activities, moments and campaigns.
Individual Giving & Monthly Donations
- Lead the development and growth of WeSwim’s monthly giving programme.
- Deliver a high-quality stewardship programme for individual donors including welcome and impact communications.
- Use data to track donor retention, upgrade opportunities, and areas for improvement.
Campaigns, Communications & Community Engagement
- Plan and deliver key fundraising campaigns (e.g. Christmas Appeal, Giving Tuesday).
- Create engaging fundraising content and stories across email, social media, the website and fundraising platforms.
- Build relationships with community groups and partners, representing WeSwim at relevant events.
Systems, Data & Reporting
- Maintain accurate fundraising records and supporter data.
- Monitor fundraising performance and produce reports and insights.
- Contribute to improving fundraising systems and digital tools.

The Role
Future Advocacy is seeking a Research, Advocacy and Communications Coordinator. This is a great opportunity to be thrown in at the deep end in a small but growing, dynamic organisation that places a strong focus on team and personal development. Requirements
