Role purpose statement:  The Programme Assistant, Enquiries, plays a vital administrative role in the Fellowship Programme working directly with academics facing immediate risk in their home countries. The role exists to provide effective and efficient administration, completing due diligence tasks and onward signposting to prospective applicants. Duties include managing an individual caseload of applicants, assisting prospective applicants and administrative support for general enquiries, the Enquiries team as well as support across the Fellowship Programme when needed. 

Organisational Background 

The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to assist academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. 

Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for over 90 years enabling them to continue their teaching and research in safety, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Today, our Fellowship Programme convenes a network of 135 UK universities in the UK to secure research placements for at-risk academics and support for their families, continuing a longstanding commitment of protecting academics and preserving their knowledge and expertise.

Cara Objectives‘To assist academics who have been, or are at risk of being, subject to discrimination, persecution, suffering or violence on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, to relieve needs among them and their dependants and ensure that their specialist knowledge and abilities can continue to be used for the benefit of the public.’ 

‘To advance education by supporting academics and their educational institutions in countries where their continuing work is at risk or compromised, to ensure that such academics and institutions can continue to fulfil their critical role as educators for the public benefit.’ 

Role & Responsibilities 

Casework 

• Signposting prospective applicants to the application form. 

• Manage own caseload, preparing cases for eligibility review, including arranging calls to speak with applicants, booking English language tests, and gathering all relevant documentation. 

• Escalating complex cases to the Team Leader as required. 

• Maintain accurate and GDPR-Compliant records of casework activity. 

• Researching international affairs to develop understanding about risks applicants face. 

• Attending weekly case review meetings with the team. 

Administration 

• Provide general administrative and logistical support, including answering phone enquiries. 

• Manage the general enquiries inbox, alongside another colleague, answering emails about the enquiries’ process, the Fellowship Programme and Cara. 

• Signpost enquiries to relevant colleagues internally and to other organisations where applicable. 

• Assist with compilation of reports to funders. 

• Present and collect data on general enquiries and applications to the Programme. 

• Ensure safekeeping of confidential information. 

• Maintain excellent detailed records of correspondence, documents, and activities. 

• Provide administrative support to colleagues on projects across the organisation as required. 

Managerial Support 

• Take part and contribute to Cara wide working groups across a range of research and strategy topics, including contributing to efficiency improvements.

• Provide advice and guidance to colleagues where applicable. 

Ad Hoc Responsibilities 

• Show adaptability and willingness to take on additional work when necessary. 

• Support the Fellowship Programme and Cara as a whole with ad hoc responsibilities. 

Responsibilities also include related activities that might arise in relation to the Fellowship Programme and Cara's other programmes as required by the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive & Fellowship Programme Manager, and other senior colleagues.

The Project Delivery & Capability Manager plays a key role in enabling the successful delivery of the ARUK’s 10-year strategy through the development and embedding of an effective, scalable and proportionate Project Management Framework.

This is not a traditional project management role. We are looking for a collaborative delivery professional who can partner with colleagues across ARUK to help teams successfully deliver strategic projects, build organisational capability and embed effective ways of working. This role would suit someone who combines strong project management expertise with excellent relationship-building skills and is motivated by coaching, influencing and partnering with colleagues across an organisation. We are seeking a generalist who can work across diverse business functions, helping teams deliver strategic initiatives effectively, rather than a specialist focused on a single technical or operational discipline. 

Managing the Project Delivery team and with line management responsibility for the Senior Projects Officer, the post holder will help drive organisational project management maturity by acting as a trusted partner, advisor and expert for project and programme teams across the charity. Through coaching, consultation, training and hands-on partnering support, the role will help ensure major, cross-organisational strategic initiatives are set up for success and delivered effectively. 

Operating within an evolving hub-and-spoke model, the Project Delivery and Capability Manager will work closely with leaders of large, complex and strategically significant projects and programmes, providing expertise in areas such as planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, risk management, dependency management and benefits realisation. The role will also contribute to the continuous development of project management tools, standards, training and communities of practice that improve delivery capability across the organisation.

While the primary focus is on delivery enablement and capability building, the postholder may directly manage selected high-risk or high-complexity projects where additional project management expertise or capacity is required

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management Framework and Organisational Capability 

· In collaboration with the Head of Programme Management, lead the ongoing development, implementation and continuous improvement of the charity's Project Management Framework, ensuring it remains fit for purpose, proportionate and aligned to organisational priorities and ARUK’s impact-focused annual planning approach 

· Act as a centre of excellence for project management at ARUK, partnering with colleagues across the organisation to provide expert advice, guidance and challenge; use active listening, curiosity and adaptability to tailor support and drive successful delivery outcomes 

· Develop, maintain and promote project management standards, templates, guidance and other resources that support consistent and effective project delivery, providing colleagues with practical tools that support decision-making, reduce complexity, and improve outcomes 

· Design and deliver project management training, workshops and consultations, to increase project management capability and maturity across the organisation, empowering teams to successfully deliver projects in proportion to their scope, scale, and complexity 

· Partner with colleagues in the Organisational Development and Learning & Development team to ensure project management capability-building aligns with broader organisational development priorities 

· Monitor and evaluate the adoption of project management practices, identifying opportunities to improve project delivery effectiveness across the organisation 

· Oversee the maintenance and continuous development of project management resources, intranet content and self-service guidance materials 

Strategic Project and Programme Partnering 

· Proactively partner with leaders of large, complex and strategically important projects and programmes to strengthen delivery planning, governance and execution 

· Provide specialist support and challenge in areas including project set-up, governance, stakeholder management, risk management, dependency mapping, sequencing, phased delivery planning and project review 

· Facilitate effective coordination between interconnected projects and programmes, helping teams identify and manage cross-organisational dependencies, risks and impacts. 

· Support project and programme teams in establishing clear delivery plans, governance structures, decision-making routes and success measures 

· Build strong and collaborative relationships with project sponsors, senior stakeholders and delivery teams to foster a culture of accountability, learning and continuous improvement 

Line management and Team Development 

· Line manage the Senior Projects Officer, maintaining oversight of team resource and delegating work as appropriate to ensure continued opportunity to embed and further develop their skills and knowledge 

· Provide clear instruction and guidance to the Senior Projects Officer, and engage in coaching and goal-setting conversations, empowering them to succeed and develop in their role 

· Continuously seek opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in the Strategy & Governance Directorate, contributing to Directorate’s influence and success in partnering with the wider organisation 

Community of Practice and Continuous Improvement 

· Support the Head of Programme Management in the development and facilitation of ARUK’s Project Management Community of Practice, creating opportunities for collaboration, shared learning and peer support. 

· Encourage the adoption of common approaches, standards and tools across projects and programmes. 

· Capture, share and embed lessons learned and best practice from projects and programmes across the organisation. 

· Identify emerging trends, approaches and innovations in project and programme management and assess their relevance for adoption within the charity. 

· Promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning that strengthens organisational delivery capability. 

Selective Project Delivery 

· Lead selected high-risk, high-complexity or business-critical projects where project management support is required and capacity is available. 

· Establish and maintain effective project governance, plans, reporting, risk management and stakeholder engagement arrangements for assigned projects. 

· Ensure project outcomes, benefits and lessons learned are successfully transitioned into business-as-usual operations. 

Knowledge, skills and experience needed:

· Experience managing cross-organisational projects, including developing project plans,allocatingtasks, and managing risks, decisions, and changes. 

· Sound knowledge of project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile), alongside evidence of successfully sharing this knowledge with colleagues via training, partnering, or other knowledge-sharing activities 

· Evidence developing, implementing or evolving project management frameworks, standards or governance approaches within a complex organisation, with a focus on effective delivery over restrictive processes 

· Experience of partnering with cross-organisational projects teams, and actively collaborating with colleagues on joint initiatives

· Working knowledge of project management tools, such as Excel, Smartsheet, MS Projects or similar

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Power to Prosper is a national community wealth building programme, delivered by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) in partnership with a network of community hubs across the UK. The programme works to build community-owned economic power and challenge racial and economic inequality.

While we establish Power to Prosper as an independent organisation it is being incubated within the New Economics Foundation group and contracts of employment will be offered on a fixed-term basis only via NEF Consulting.

This is a hands-on Executive Assistant role providing direct support to the Executive Director (ED) and the wider Power to Prosper Senior Leadership Team. The role combines diary and executive support, meetings and events coordination, financial administration, and stakeholder liaison across NEF and the hub network.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Communications Plan and Content Creation

• Develop and deliver the annual communications and marketing plan, working with senior leadership to align activity with organisational priorities. 

• Plan, create and manage high-quality written, visual and multimedia content across media, social media, newsletters, presentations, speeches and campaign collateral. 

• Ensure all communications are accurate, impactful and consistent with The Hygiene Bank’s mission, values, tone of voice and brand guidelines. 

• Translate complex or sensitive issues around hygiene poverty into compelling stories that engage supporters and partners. 

• Provide strategic communications support for key campaigns and partnerships, including National Hygiene Week, fundraising campaigns and work with partners such as Boots, Unilever and smol. 

• Oversee approval processes, brand resources and organised filing systems for communications materials. 

2. Digital Strategy and Implementation 

• Lead digital planning, delivery and maintenance across the website, email, social media and digital campaigns.

About the Role

We are looking for an organised, practical and proactive candidate to take day-to-day operational ownership of the Migrateful Cookery School in Farringdon and coordinate the effective operation of our network of venues across London.

A key focus will be introducing a Venue Champion model, where designated facilitators undertake agreed routine checks and practical tasks at external venues. With support from the Operations Support Officer, you will establish and coordinate this approach, while retaining overall oversight of venue standards and stepping in when additional intervention is needed.

You will also coordinate the operational onboarding of new venues and support the planned refurbishment of the Cookery School.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining venue operations, coordination, problem-solving and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Cookery School Operations

Take day-to-day operational ownership of the Migrateful Cookery School.

• Ensure the space, equipment, ingredients, recipes and resources are ready for classes and ad hoc events.

• Coordinate repairs, maintenance, cleaning and facilities requirements, working with building management, contractors and cleaning providers.

• Maintain effective systems for stock, storage, equipment, consumables and procurement.

• Identify and resolve operational issues to ensure the space works effectively for chefs, facilitators, volunteers and staff.

• Coordinate the planned Cookery School refurbishment, working with contractors, suppliers and colleagues to minimise disruption and ensure the space is ready for reopening.

2. External Venue Coordination

Maintain operational oversight of Migrateful's external London venues.

• Maintain venue-specific equipment, kit and operational requirements, with planned schedules for checks, maintenance and resets.

• Monitor venue readiness, facilitator feedback and outstanding issues and coordinate appropriate action.

• Maintain effective relationships with venue contacts and undertake periodic quality assurance visits where required.

3. Venue Champion Coordination

Venue Champions undertake agreed routine practical tasks, while the Venues Coordinator retains overall oversight of venue standards and the systems supporting them.

• Coordinate a network of Venue Champions who provide routine practical support at external venues.

• With support from the Operations Support Officer, recruit and train Venue Champions from Migrateful's facilitator pool and provide clear guidance for the role.

• Establish equipment lists, checklists and schedules for venue checks, kit cleaning and resets.

• Monitor completion of agreed tasks and coordinate follow-up, maintenance or equipment replacement where required.

4. New Venue Onboarding

• Coordinate the operational setup of new London venues when required.

• Assess new venues and establish equipment, storage, logistics, food safety and operational requirements.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience in kitchen, hospitality, venue, facilities or operational coordination, with a good understanding of Food Safety, Health & Safety and allergen management.

At Prostate Cancer UK we’re committed to righting health inequalities across the UK, starting with those faced by Black men. This includes ground-breaking research into Black men's risk and working with communities directly to overcome barriers to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. To make this happen, we're dedicated to being an inclusive, proactive organisation, as we strive to be Allies to Black communities. We’ll achieve this by advocating and working alongside those communities to promote change. We're also working to be Allies to each other, not only protected groups. In 2024, we launched our New Allyship Training Programme. All colleagues at Prostate Cancer UK will be trained to act and identify as an Ally.

Action for Global Health (AfGH) is an influential membership network convening more than 50 organisations working in global health. Its vision is a world where health equity is achieved, and every person has access to the quality healthcare they need without being forced into financial hardship.

AfGH’s strategy, extended to 2029, aims to ensure that stronger commitments from the UK Government help more people worldwide access affordable, high-quality healthcare suited to their needs. The network works by bringing together member organisations, civil society groups, and people with lived experience of health inequality – especially from low- and middle-income countries – to influence UK policy. It acts as a key link between global health civil society and government departments such as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Department of Health and Social Care, guided by its 10 health-equity principles.

AfGH is an independent network hosted by STOPAIDS, which provides legal, financial, HR, and administrative support.

The Position

As the Network Director, you will be responsible for convening and guiding the network, in partnership with the AfGH team, Steering Committee, wider membership and host organisation (STOPAIDS).

In this role, you will:

• Guide, oversee and review the implementation of AfGH’s 2022–2029 strategy.
• Secure AfGH’s ongoing financial sustainability and ensure accurate and clear financial reporting.
• Lead and coordinate AfGH’s policy and advocacy activities.
• Provide direction to the AfGH Secretariat, support the Membership & Development Director, line manage the Advocacy Manager, and manage relationships with STOPAIDS and Students for Global Health (partner organisation).
• Expand the AfGH membership to target groups and ensure that the network continues to engage and be driven by the membership.
• Ensure that AfGH continues to have appropriate governance in place in order to ensure effectiveness and accountability.

This exciting new role sits within REUK’s Education Pathways work which has been in a pilot phase for the last few years and is rapidly growing now that the UK government has made a commitment to expanding safe and legal routes to higher education in the UK for refugee students.

Higher education provides a transformative pathway for refugee youth, but establishing sustainable institutional access routes requires systemic collaboration. This role will lead the growth, formalisation, and management of university partnerships required to make an education pathway to the UK grow and flourish. You will oversee the complete partnership lifecycle: from university outreach and onboarding (including negotiating formal agreements at senior level), to enabling the formation of campus welcome groups, leading on initial and ongoing university and welcome group training and support, and monitoring and improving all university-facing processes within the pathway.

The postholder will work alongside a newly created Students Lead role, enabling you to focus on the institution-facing workstreams, while student-facing onboarding, welfare, and direct casework are handled by your counterpart.

This is a critical role within a small, high-capacity specialist unit within REUK. Because this is an emerging and new area of work you must be comfortable working with risk and ambiguity, refining and learning rapidly as parameters evolve. You will be an allrounder - as comfortable presenting to university executive boards and Vice-Chancellors as you are drafting MoUs, establishing Terms of Reference, organising and facilitating institutional training, and handling complex partnership operations independently.

Role outcomes

1. UK universities actively partner with REUK to create, expand, and sustain dedicated safe and legal education pathways for displaced students. To this end, key responsibilities include: 

• Developing and executing a national university engagement strategy to identify, pitch to, and secure new partner universities across the UK higher education sector.

• Engaging directly with key university representatives - including Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Heads of Admissions, Sanctuary staff and key academics - to build institutional buy-in and secure long-term commitment to refugee education pathways.

• Negotiating university support packages, including as appropriate fee waivers, scholarship or bursary structures, and accommodation commitments.

• Nurturing and strategically managing existing university partnerships to ensure institutional sustainability, high-level engagement, and year-on-year growth in pathway placements.

• Representing REUK where appropriate in sector-wide higher education networks and working groups on displaced student pathways.

2. Partner universities establish institutional frameworks, well-trained staff networks and campus welcome groups to receive refugee education pathway learners. To this end, key responsibilities include: 

• Guiding universities in establishing and structuring sustainable on-campus welcome groups (bringing together university staff and students) to support the welcome and integration of education pathway students.

• Designing and delivering high quality training sessions for on-campus welcome groups and other key staff members.

• Developing practical toolkits, guides, and frameworks for university staff to accompany above training.

• Collaborating with the Students Lead to ensure campus welcome structures integrate with REUK's student support mechanisms.

• Advocating within partner institutions for structural policy improvements (e.g. contextual admissions and flexible documentation policies).

3. University partnership governance, agreements, and operational systems run effectively and efficiently. To this end, key responsibilities include: 

• Drafting, negotiating, and finalizing formal Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Terms of Reference (ToRs), and operational service agreements with partner universities. 

• Managing all administrative and governance aspects of university partnerships independently, including contract tracking, partnership reviews, and operational timelines without junior admin support.

• Coordinating institutional admissions frameworks and placement quotas with university registry and admissions departments.

• Serving as the primary point of contact for senior university leads when strategic, structural, or other partnership challenges arise

• Maintaining robust data systems and records relating to university commitments, funding allocations, and institutional agreements.

4. REUK’s Education Pathways university partnerships work is robustly evaluated, financially sustainable, and aligned with REUK’s broader strategy. To this end, key responsibilities include: 

• Reporting directly to the Education Pathways Lead  on partnership growth, institutional engagement metrics, and strategic pathway goals.

• Working in close alignment with the Students Lead to ensure institutional frameworks effectively support cohort needs and programme delivery.

• Collecting sector data, university feedback, and institutional metrics to demonstrate impact to funders, university boards, REUK’s board of trustees, and government stakeholders.

• Supporting grant reporting and budget management related to university pathway expansion and partner development.

• Feeding operational insights from university partnerships into REUK’s broader research, policy, and systemic change initiatives.

Person specification

Although each role requires particular competencies, we seek staff members - irrespective of role - who are willing and able to demonstrate core competencies related to 1) character and values, 2) personal working style and 3) team working. Please see the applicant pack for more details. The competencies required for this specific role are:

• Higher Education sector expertise: Deep understanding of UK university governance, executive structures, admissions procedures, international frameworks, and sanctuary initiatives.

• Senior stakeholder engagement and negotiation: Proven track record of engaging and influencing senior decision-makers within universities.
   

• Partnership governance: Demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating, and executing formal and operational agreements, including MoUs and ToRs.
   

• Facilitation and training: Strong training and facilitation skills, with a track record of designing and delivering workshops and guidance, ideally within the higher education or refugee education sectors

• Operational self-sufficiency: Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to manage high-level administration, systems setup, and contract management independently without administrative support.

• Knowledge of education pathway models: Familiarity with international refugee education pathway models (such as Canada’s WUSC; Australia’s RSSP/SkillPath and or others operating in Japan, Italy, Ireland etc).

• Knowledge and understanding of refugee tertiary education: Strong understanding of the systemic barriers faced by refugee students in higher education both in the UK and in first countries of asylum. 

• Interpersonal skills: An ability to build and maintain positive, warm and confidence inspiring working relationships with internal colleagues and external partners and stakeholders, including in complex situations.

• Communications: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including ability to appropriately communicate nuance and complexity; confidence communicating with and presenting to high level audiences.
