Purpose of the Role

Purpose of the role and Reporting Lines
The Communications Officer will report to the Communications and Digital Manager. The role works closely with our Project Managers, and technical project leads. To support people affected by macular disease now, the Macular Society provides a range of support, information and services. Our research programme is focused on finding new treatments and a cure to beat macular disease forever.
This is a permanent, part-time job-share role working Monday and Tuesday. You will work closely with the existing Community Engagement Manager, who works Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, providing an important overlap day on Tuesday.
The role covers the whole of the South of England, including London. You will help strengthen community connections, support volunteers and local groups, and build relationships with organisations and stakeholders across the region.
Key accountabilities of the role:
Support community groups and peer networks across the South of England, including London.
Lead local community engagement and ensure community insight informs wider work.
Work closely with the other job-share postholder to provide clear handovers and consistent support.
Support and engage volunteers in partnership with the Volunteer and Group Support Team.
Build relationships with community organisations, healthcare professionals and other key partners.
Gather and share insight to help shape services and organisational decisions.
Support relevant fundraising and partnership opportunities.
Provide information, advice and learning to external partners.
Maintain knowledge of local and national services to support signposting and referrals.
Plan volunteer development and community engagement activities.
Promote inclusive, accessible and welcoming approaches. You will have experience of community engagement, partnership working or service delivery and be confident building trusted relationships with a wide range of people and organisations.
You will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a job-share arrangement. Strong communication, organisation and IT skills are essential.

It is critical that as a Caseworker:
you have an insight to the backgrounds and experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre and an understanding of the broader context in our society as it impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time.
You have an insight in how trauma and the many human rights violations and persecution that most members of our community have experienced impact on all aspects of a young person’s internal and external world.
You have an insight in how current immigration rules and social care system procedures act as barriers to rehabilitation, including by restricting access to education, adequate benefits, housing and healthcare provision.

STOP THE TRAFFIK is a global organisation working to prevent human trafficking and exploitation. We bring together data, intelligence, technology and partnerships to build a deeper understanding of how exploitation operates, where risks are emerging and who is most at risk. This knowledge informs our prevention campaigns and programmes, which use targeted, evidence-led approaches to reach people with relevant information and support before exploitation occurs.
Safer Futures is one of the major pieces of work within STOP THE TRAFFIK’s prevention programme, focused on preventing child exploitation. It brings together a number of connected areas of prevention activity, including regional campaigns, national awareness activity and a youth-centred reporting channel.
Like our wider prevention projects, the work is informed by data, intelligence and evidence about the risks facing communities and the audiences we are seeking to reach. In this context, the It combines targeted communications, partnerships, technology, safeguarding and learning to develop and deliver practical prevention activity.
The work will involve collaboration across STOP THE TRAFFIK, our wider UK network and external partners, with learning and intelligence generated through delivery helping to strengthen the programme over time.
Leadership and Project Delivery
• Lead the day-to-day delivery of Safer Futures, ensuring activity remains on track, aligned to outcomes and responsive to learning throughout delivery.
• Translate objectives into clear plans, priorities, milestones and deliverables.
• Coordinate activity across the different strands and ensure work remains aligned.
• Identify and resolve delivery issues, making recommendations on priorities, sequencing and resources.
• Lead governance, reporting and decision-making processes.
Planning, Risk & Resources Management
· Maintain the project plan, tracking milestones, resources, expenditure and commitments.
· Identify and manage risks and issues, escalating where appropriate.
