About Us
Carers Support works across Bristol and South Gloucestershire with carers of all ages — including young carers who take on responsibilities well beyond their years. We're a small, close-knit fundraising and communications team looking to grow with the right person alongside us.
About the Role
This is a genuinely broad, hands-on role — the conduit between our fundraising and communications activity. You'll be the first person to own Beacon, our brand-new fundraising CRM, and the first to build proper supporter journeys from a base of 600–800 contacts we already have. Two regular newsletters already go out to our supporters and carers — what's missing is someone to turn that reach into lasting relationships.
This October we're launching our first-ever integrated fundraising and communications campaign — the Big Give Christmas Challenge, raising for young carers. Depending on timing, you might join in time to help run it, or join just after and inherit real campaign data to build the next one from. Either way, it's a genuine ground-floor opportunity: no legacy systems, no inherited decisions — what you build is what exists.

Our commitment to diversity and Guaranteed Interview Scheme
Diversity is one of our core values as an organisation and we are committed to creating an inclusive working environment where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. We also recognise that the climate and ecological crisis disproportionately impacts minority and/or marginalised communities – yet these voices are largely underrepresented in the sector. Currently, the environmental sector is the second least diverse in the UK, with just 4.8% of employees from ethnic minority backgrounds. If the environmental movement is to succeed in creating a greener future that supports society as a whole, we need diverse voices at the heart of our programmes. We therefore encourage people from demographics that are currently underrepresented in the environmental movement to apply.
We particularly encourage applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds or living with a disability or long-term health conditions. We will offer an interview to any candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds or living with a disability who opt into our Guaranteed Interview Scheme when applying and who meet the essential criteria for this role.

Together, we create opportunities for disabled children and young people to participate in community life on an equal basis, while working to change attitudes and challenge the exclusion they face.
At the heart of this work are community-based play hubs, led by our partners, where disabled children and young people play alongside their peers, build relationships and become more connected to their communities.
Our work is grounded in the Social Model of Disability. We focus on removing the social and attitudinal barriers that exclude disabled children and young people, and we reject pity-based approaches to fundraising and communication.
We are also conscious of the colonial power structures that continue to shape the international development sector. We work actively to challenge them by building long-term partnerships in which local organisations lead how our approach is shaped and put into practice in their own communities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will help generate the income that sustains and develops our work, joining a small, collaborative team and working closely with the Executive Director, colleagues and volunteers. The role offers considerable variety and the opportunity to develop your fundraising experience across several income streams.
You will research opportunities, prepare strong funding applications and donor reports, maintain our fundraising pipeline and CRM, and help build relationships with funders and supporters. You will also contribute to campaigns and help us explore new audiences and fundraising approaches.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Research funding opportunities across trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, individual giving and other relevant sources.
• Prepare and submit clear, persuasive applications, proposals and funding requests.
• Maintain an accurate pipeline of prospective and existing funders and manage timely follow-up and repeat applications.
• Build positive relationships with donors, funders, corporate partners and prospective supporters.
• Produce clear donor reports that demonstrate impact and financial accountability.
• Maintain accurate information in our fundraising CRM and use data to help inform priorities.
• Contribute to fundraising campaigns, donor communications and materials in collaboration with colleagues and volunteers.
• Support the development and testing of new fundraising opportunities and approaches.
ABOUT YOU
You do not need to have worked across every area listed above. We are looking for someone with a sound grounding in fundraising, strong writing and research skills, and the confidence to develop relationships with different people and organisations.
• Experience of fundraising in a charity, non-profit or comparable organisation.
• Strong research, writing and proposal-development skills.
• The confidence to approach and build relationships with donors and prospective supporters.
• Good analytical and numerical skills, with confidence working with data and budgets.
• Experience using a CRM or donor database (we use Salesforce).
• Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage several priorities.
• Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to test new ideas.
• Alignment with Disability Africa’s ethos and the Social Model of Disability, including our partnership-based approach, an awareness of the colonial dynamics that continue to shape the sector, and a rejection of pity-based charity narratives.
WHAT WE OFFER
• A four-day working week, with 28 hours worked from Monday to Thursday.
• A 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension.
• Hybrid working, with two days per week in our Staines office, a three-minute walk from Staines station and less than 30 minutes by train from central London.
• Twenty working days of annual leave, equivalent to five full working weeks, plus the Christmas closure period.
• The opportunity to shape and develop fundraising work within a small organisation.
• A collaborative working environment with close contact across our UK team and African partners.
