As Senior People Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering a high-quality People service across SSAFA. This is a blended role, combining employee relations advice and case support with hands-on responsibility for wellbeing, employee engagement and inclusion. Working closely with managers and colleagues across the organisation, you will help to resolve people matters fairly across the full employee lifecycle, while also developing initiatives that strengthen employee experience and organisational culture.
This is not a specialist employee relations role, nor is it solely an employee engagement role.
We are looking for someone who is motivated by both aspects and is keen to broaden their experience across:
- Employee engagement, wellbeing and inclusion initiatives, from shaping ideas through to delivery and evaluation
- Employee relations advice and case management, with support to continue developing your knowledge and confidence
- Building relationships, influencing stakeholders and coaching managers
- Organisational change, culture activity and cross-organisational people projects
- Policy development, internal communications and continuous improvement
Based at SSAFA's Central Office in London, the role offers flexibility to work remotely in line with organisational needs. However, you must be willing and able to travel to the office at short notice when required.
About the team
You'll join a collaborative and supportive People & Organisational Development team that is passionate about delivering an excellent service and continuously improving the employee experience. We value partnership, professionalism, compassion and inclusion, working together to help colleagues and managers thrive. In this role, you'll work closely with:
- Learning & Organisational Development
- People Systems & Operations
- Leaders and managers
- Project and change teams
- Internal Communications and other corporate functions
This cross-organisational exposure will give you valuable insight into how different teams work together to support SSAFA's mission.
About you
You are someone who enjoys building relationships, listening to colleagues and turning feedback or ideas into practical improvements. You are comfortable working collaboratively across teams, communicating with different audiences and helping to create an inclusive and engaging employee experience. You will bring sound judgement, empathy and curiosity, and be able to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a generalist HR, employee engagement, wellbeing, inclusion, or related people-focused role and is ready for the next step in their career.
- Can demonstrate experience of contributing to or delivering engagement, wellbeing, inclusion, culture or employee experience initiatives.
- Has a sound understanding of HR practice and employment law, with the willingness and ability to develop further practical experience in employee relations and case management.
- Can build trusted relationships, adapt their communication style and work collaboratively with colleagues, managers and stakeholders at different levels.
- Can organise and deliver activity, manage multiple priorities and follow through from idea to implementation.
- Is curious, proactive and committed to improving the employee experience, and is comfortable suggesting new approaches and encouraging participation.
You do not need to be an employee relations expert to apply. However, you must have a sound understanding of HR practice and employment law and be willing to develop your employee relations experience. Likewise, candidates with a stronger ER background should be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in engagement, wellbeing and inclusion work.
We will assess candidates across both employee relations and engagement to reflect the balanced nature of the role. We are interested in your transferable experience, your understanding of good people practice and employment law, and your willingness to learn.

About Alexandra Rose Charity
We should all be able to eat healthy food. But right now, healthy options cost more than twice as much as junk food. It’s getting harder and harder for people to put good food on the table. In fact, the poorest fifth of UK households would need to spend 50% of their disposable income to eat the UK Government’s recommended healthy diet. Access to a choice of high quality, culturally appropriate fruit & veg is an essential building block for our mental and physical health. We need to put this right.
We’re on a mission to give people access to their choice of fresh fruit & veg, in the heart of their community. At Alexandra Rose, we are proud to deliver a mix of practical, place-based projects and national advocacy to shape a fairer future, where everyone can afford and enjoy fresh fruit & veg with dignity.
If this aligns with how you see the world, and you want to use your skills and experience to help us build towards it, you’ll feel at home here.

About The Connection at St Martin’s
We believe that no one should have to sleep rough on London’s streets, and that everyone should get the support they need to find a place to call home. We get to know every person we work with, understanding what they need to recover, helping them build on their strengths, and supporting them to find their own way home. Help us make London a city where no one sleeps rough on our streets.
London’s diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London’s diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.
We particularly encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of homelessness who we believe are an essential asset in our sector.

We want to reach women who have experienced abuse, mental illness, addiction, poor physical health, unclear immigration status and homelessness. Therefore, Trauma Informed Care lies at the heart of everything we do.
Working with the Daylight Service Manager, you will manage a team of staff and volunteers to set up, pilot and deliver this vital new service in a central London location. The service will include a combination of practical facilities such as showers and a laundry, health and wellbeing resources to minimise the harm associated with rough sleeping and support to move into accommodation. We may develop additional aspects to the service as resources become available.
You will have experience in delivering psychologically, gender and culturally informed services to people who are experiencing street homelessness. You will use this experience to build relationships of trust with clients. This will include a commitment to embedding co-production so that the service continues to improve and evolve. You will facilitate in reach services predominantly with a health and harm minimisation focus and develop positive partnerships with external agencies. You will also set up and oversee a group work programme. You will provide strength-based and solution focused one to one support for women to move away from the streets.

Sounds great, what will I be doing?
Newham Domestic and Sexual Violence Support Service is a community based integrated service providing support to individuals who have experienced domestic and/ or sexual violence including Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence, Forced Marriage, Honour Based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation and Sex Workers. The services are being provided in a variety of ways including through Casework, IDSVA, and MARAC. We will be working closely with key partner agencies within the Newham Borough to provide holistic support to all individuals who have or are experiencing domestic and/ or sexual violence and to improve awareness within the community of domestic and sexual violence and the support that is available for victims.
In this vital role, you will manage incoming referrals, liaise with partner agencies, provide compassionate short‑term support via our phone line, and ensure accurate case management across our systems. You'll also deliver domestic abuse awareness workshops, develop culturally sensitive resources, and build strong relationships with local community organisations to improve early intervention pathways. Working closely with colleagues, you'll help ensure every client receives a safe, respectful, and effective service, while upholding Hestia's values, confidentiality standards, and commitment to inclusive practice.
This is a hybrid role, with two days working from home, one day based in a co‑working location in Newham, and two days spent delivering community‑based work across Newham.
What do I need to bring with me?
You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. We also value lived experience of the areas we support, so if you feel comfortable, please do mention this on your application.
You will have a solid background in domestic abuse support, safeguarding, or related community‑based services, with experience handling highly sensitive information, offering advice to survivors, and working across multi‑agency domestic abuse teams. A deep understanding of the dynamics and impact of domestic abuse, gender‑based violence, multiple disadvantage, and trauma is essential, alongside knowledge of local community services and networks. The ideal candidate will bring strong administrative experience, including accurate data entry, confident use of MS Office, and the ability to manage complex tasks within tight timeframes. You will be calm, resilient, and able to manage challenging situations, while maintaining excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. Experience delivering workshops or training, engaging grassroots organisations, and building strong multi‑agency partnerships is highly desirable, as is familiarity with MARAC processes. Self‑motivation, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to inclusive, culturally sensitive practice are key to success in this role.
