About The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

The College has a current membership approaching 29,000 and growing, with members spanning over 100 countries around the world.
From our founding in 1505, the College has been committed to the advancement of surgery and driving patient safety standards worldwide. In our 520-year history, there has never been a better time to join the College than now.
Working with us
At the College we aim to embrace views from across the organisation, sharing common goals and values for the betterment of healthcare through the advancement of surgical and dental professionals. We aim to develop teams that are reflective of the needs of our members and maximise the potential of every employee.
To reflect the varying needs across the organisation, we offer a range of policies and benefits for our workforce including a generous 42 days annual leave, flexible working practices, enhanced employer pensions contribution and various discounts throughout the College including the Ten Hill Place Hotel, 1505 Café and free entry to Surgeons’ Hall Museums.
About the Role
This is not your typical management role.
We are looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, building trusted relationships and finding practical solutions to difficult challenges. Reporting to the Head of Faculties, you will lead the strategic and operational delivery of three of our six Faculties, working with world leading surgeons and healthcare professionals who generously volunteer their time to advance surgical education and, ultimately, improve patient care across the world.
You will also lead and develop a small, high performing team comprising a Faculty Development Lead, A Faculty Coordinator and shared support from a Coordinator and an Administrator. As a people leader, you will create an environment where colleagues feel supported, empowered and able to do their best work. Balancing day to day operational delivery with longer term development and continuous improvement.
No two days are the same. One morning you might be advising a Faculty Chair on governance matter. By lunchtime
you could be developing a business case for a new educational initiative, supporting your team through a challenging piece of work, or troubleshooting an unexpected operational problem. In the afternoon, you may be leading a cross College project, bringing together colleagues from across departments to deliver a new service, improve member experience or develop innovative ways of supporting our Faculties. Success in this role comes from working collaboratively across the organisation, building strong relationships and bringing people together around shared goals.
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, thinks strategically but is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, and can switch confidently between coaching a colleague, influencing senior stakeholders, leading collaborative projects and solving practical problems.
You will be joining a supportive leadership team that values curiosity, collaboration and continuous improvement. We believe in giving people the autonomy to lead, the support to develop and the opportunity to shape how our Faculties evolve.
About You
We are looking for someone with sound judgement and a collaborative approach. Rather than having all the answers, we are seeking someone who asks insightful questions, draws on the expertise of others, and helps the team reach the best possible outcomes.
You will be someone who enjoys figuring things out, remains calm when priorities change and is comfortable making decisions in situations where there is not always a clear way forward. You build trust quickly, communicate with tact and diplomacy, and know how to influence without relying on authority.
You will bring experience of leading and developing teams, managing complex stakeholder relationships and delivering projects or services in a professional, membership, healthcare, education or charity environment. We are just as interested in how you work as where you have worked.
We are particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:
· Exceptional relationship building skills and emotional intelligence.
· Experience of leading complex projects involving colleagues from multiple teams, bringing people together to deliver shared outcomes
· A collaborative leadership style that develops people, builds partnerships across teams and brings others with you
· A good understanding of financial management, financial analysis and commercial drivers.
· The ability to assess financial implications and support informed decision making.
· The resilience to remain calm and constructive in complex or sensitive situations.
· Strong problem solving skills and the confidence to make sound decisions.
· The ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining high standards.
· Excellent judgement, tact and diplomacy when working with senior professionals and volunteers.
· Change leadership and organisational development
· A collaborative leadership style that develops people and brings others with you.
· Curiosity, adaptability and a genuine desire to continuously improve services.
· Experience of working in an intercultural context would be a useful advantage.
If you have read this advert and are excited by the opportunity but do not meet every single criterion, we would still encourage you to apply. We know that great people do not always tick every box, and we are committed to supporting talented individuals to grow into the role.
What matters most is your attitude, values and potential. We are looking for someone who is curious, resilient, adaptable and motivated by making a difference.
Looking to the Future
As our Faculties continue to evolve, so too does our approach to supporting them. We are actively developing the capabilities of our team to ensure we can deliver increasingly innovative, insight driven and member focused services.
Alongside the core skills and experience needed for this role, you will have the opportunity to develop expertise in areas such as:
· AI literacy and practical application of emerging technologies
· Workflow automation and process improvement
· Data visualisation, using insight to support decision making
· Service design and continuous improvement
· Systems thinking and designing sustainable solutions
You do not need to be an expert in all of these areas from day one. What matters most is your curiosity, willingness to learn and enthusiasm for helping shape the future of the Faculties function.
Please note that we do not accept CVs and agencies need not apply.
To be a strong voice for our family of members, developing their careers, upholding standards, and promoting patient safety globally.

Based at our London Bridge Office
What the job involves
We have a great opportunity to join our vibrant charity as part of our Workplace (Facilities) team.
As a key ‘go to’ member of the team, you’ll play an important role in the smooth running of our London Bridge office, helping to keep everything safe, compliant and running efficiently day to day. This is an office-based role, reflecting the hands-on nature of the work.
This is a varied and busy role, covering a mix of facilities coordination and health and safety support. You’ll assist with completing checks, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring our systems and processes run smoothly. You’ll also work closely with contractors, manage the ordering of supplies, arrange work-from-home equipment, and raise purchase orders. With support from the Workplace Health and Safety Manager, you’ll help manage the office security system.
There will also be opportunities to get involved in wider projects, including supporting the People Experience team with new starter inductions and working with the Communications team on office events.
Alongside this, you’ll use your strong organisational and administrative skills to support record keeping, reporting, insight gathering and logistical planning. Everything you do will contribute to making us a great place to work – wherever our people are based.
What we want from you
We’re looking for a proactive and organised individual who enjoys problem solving and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly. You’ll be comfortable managing a varied workload, prioritising effectively and using your initiative to find practical solutions day to day.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll be working with a wide range of colleagues, contractors and suppliers. You’ll bring a confident and approachable style, building positive relationships and engaging others with enthusiasm and empathy.

Experience in an office coordination, facilities or similar environment would be helpful but isn’t essential. We’re just as interested in candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills, a customer-focused mindset and a genuine passion for creating a positive workplace experience.
Why work with us?
Every man needs to know about the most common cancer in men – prostate cancer. It’s a real and present danger that takes over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends each year.
Prostate Cancer UK is the largest men’s health charity in the UK. We have a simple ambition – to stop prostate cancer damaging lives. We invest millions in research to revolutionise testing, treatment and care. We’re blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk. And we work tirelessly to spread the word about risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.
Work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer.
Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
At Prostate Cancer UK we’re committed to righting health inequalities across the UK, starting with those faced by Black men. This includes ground-breaking research into Black men's risk and working with communities directly to overcome barriers to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. To make this happen, we're dedicated to being an inclusive, proactive organisation, as we strive to be Allies to Black communities. We’ll achieve this by advocating and working alongside those communities to promote change. We're also working to be Allies to each other, not only protected groups. In 2024, we launched our New Allyship Training Programme. All colleagues at Prostate Cancer UK will be trained to act and identify as an Ally.
We've also signed Business in the Communities Race at Work Charter, as a dedication to our Black health equity work and wider EDI priorities. As a signatory, we're responsible and accountable for driving positive change.
How and where we work
Colleagues attend the office at least four days per month (pro rata for part-time colleagues) to collaborate, build relationships, and support projects and decision-making. You can choose where to work the rest of the time. Travel to the office is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.
Additional in-person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.
We trust colleagues to work flexibly while balancing personal commitments with the needs of the charity, and we are committed to making reasonable adjustments for colleagues with a disability, neurodiversity, or a long-term physical or mental health condition.

ABOUT GROWTH
GrowTH is a Christian charity in Tower Hamlets, working with local churches to house and empower people experiencing homelessness to start a new life. Through shelter, advocacy, and supported housing, we create environments where people are welcomed, listened to, and supported as part of a community. Our aim is not only to meet immediate needs, but to help each person rediscover their self-worth, unlock their potential, and encounter the transforming love of Jesus.
SUMMARY OF SUPPORT & HOUSING MANAGER
The Support & Housing Manager is a management role responsible for leading frontline staff, overseeing the quality of frontline support, and ensuring GrowTH’s Housing Project and wider support work operate safely, effectively, and in alignment with GrowTH’s purpose: enabling people experiencing homelessness to receive an excellent quality of holistic support in the practical, emotional, and social areas of their lives – as well as to encounter Jesus and experience genuine life transformation.
The role ensures that services not only function well operationally, but consistently deliver on GrowTH’s mission, promise to people, and values – supporting individuals to move from crisis towards stability, community, and restored identity.
ABOUT FRONTLINE SERVICES
GrowTH’s Frontline Services are:
1. Night Shelter (church based, rotating model)
2. Housing Project
GrowTH’s Frontline Staff currently are:
1. Night Shelter Advocate Workers (x2)
2. Housing Worker (x1)
As GrowTH develops its new Hub model, the Support & Housing Manager will play a key role in ensuring that the Night Shelter, Housing Project, and wider support functions operate as part of one joined-up pathway. Through effective management of frontline staff, the role will help create a culture in which staff are developed in their roles, work closely together, share insight appropriately, collaborate around complex cases, and ensure that guests and residents experience consistent support as they move between different parts of GrowTH’s work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operational Oversight of Frontline Services
The S&HM will oversee the quality and consistency of support delivered across GrowTH’s frontline services, including support provided to Night Shelter guests through the Advocate Workers, while holding direct management responsibility for the effective running of the Housing Project.
1. The S&HM ensures frontline services consistently embody GrowTH’s promise by creating an environment where individuals are welcomed with dignity, experience belonging, are supported to move forward, and have opportunities to explore the Christian faith.
2. Managing the effective running of Frontline Services through monitoring the quality and consistency of support delivered by staff using the following: Line Management reports (monthly); statistics; casework files; support plans; move on plans; resettlement processes and regular calls to referral agencies and churches to gather feedback on GrowTH staff.
3. Manage and support frontline staff in resolving operational issues and practical service delivery challenges.
4. Holding a small, focused frontline caseload, alongside their wider management responsibilities. This will include direct casework with a limited number of guests and residents, particularly within the Housing Project, where additional management input, continuity of support, or more complex casework is required. The S&HM will also work alongside frontline staff on complex cases, support plans, move-on planning, key meetings, and periods of increased frontline need, modelling high-quality, relational, well-recorded and appropriately boundaried support. This casework involvement should also be used to model good practice, strengthen casework quality, and support the development of frontline staff in their roles.
5. Manage and support frontline staff to improve the quality and effectiveness of guest and resident move-on by:
o Monitoring referral levels into services
o Monitoring move-on pathways and move-on discussions
o Assist frontline staff in identifying system blockages (e.g. move-on, referrals) and facilitating solutions to unblock them.
6. Ensuring consistency and clarity in how frontline services operate
7. Ensure GrowTH accommodation is safe, well maintained, and compliant with all relevant requirements.
8. Ensuring appropriate boundaries and expectations are maintained
2. Overall Management and Oversight of the Housing Project
The Support & Housing Manager will hold overall responsibility for the safe, effective, and mission-aligned running of GrowTH’s Housing Project, which currently provides accommodation for 16 residents. Working closely with the Housing Worker, the S&HM will ensure that the project provides stable, affordable, well-managed accommodation alongside clear, tailored support that helps residents move towards independence, community, and long-term housing stability. Responsibilities include:
1. Providing overall day-to-day leadership and management of the Housing Project, ensuring it operates safely, consistently, and in line with GrowTH’s values, policies, and purpose.
2. Supporting and overseeing the Housing Worker in their work with residents, ensuring support plans, risk assessments, case records, move-on plans, and resident engagement are of a high standard.
3. Ensuring residents are welcomed, treated with dignity, and supported to make progress in practical, emotional, social, and spiritual areas of life.
4. Overseeing referrals into the Housing Project, including suitability discussions with the shelter/support team, referral partners, and prospective residents.
5. Ensuring that residents are appropriately inducted into the project, understand the expectations of their licence agreement, and are supported to sustain their placement well.
6. Monitoring rent, licence fee, service charge, arrears, and housing-related financial processes in liaison with the relevant administrative/finance staff, ensuring that residents are supported to keep payments up to date and that financial issues are addressed promptly.
7. Ensuring Housing Project properties are safe, well maintained, appropriately furnished, and compliant with relevant health and safety, fire safety, gas, electrical, and housing requirements.
8. Managing day-to-day operational relationships with key housing stakeholders, including landlords, housing associations, contractors, maintenance providers, and other relevant agencies, particularly in relation to repairs, lettings, inspections, safety checks, rent/service charge issues, property standards, and resident sustainment.
9. Ensuring that Housing Project policies, procedures, house expectations, and resident agreements are clear, up to date, implemented consistently, and reflect actual practice.
10. Overseeing resident support, including budgeting, benefits, employment, training, life skills, wellbeing, relationships, community engagement, and preparation for independent living.
11. Ensuring appropriate boundaries, accountability, and standards of behaviour are maintained within the Housing Project, responding to concerns, complaints, safeguarding issues, and breaches of expectations in line with GrowTH procedures.
12. Managing move-on planning for Housing Project residents, ensuring residents are supported to prepare for suitable accommodation and that links are developed with appropriate move-on providers and pathways.
13. Working with the Director to review and develop the Housing Project, identifying strengths, gaps, risks, opportunities for improvement, and future development needs.
3. Staff Leadership, Performance, and Development
Ensure frontline staff are supported, effective, and accountable. Responsibilities include:
1. Line management of frontline staff
2. Performance management and addressing challenges in service delivery
3. The S&HM will model and cultivate GrowTH’s values within the team, ensuring that staff:
a. Demonstrate compassion and consistency in their work
b. Follow through on commitments to guests and partners
c. Take responsibility for delivering high-quality support
d. Work collaboratively as part of a unified team
4. Supporting staff in decision-making, particularly with complex or challenging cases.
5. Ensuring staff receive appropriate training and development

Creating Hope Together
Creating Hope Together is Scotland's suicide prevention strategy and action plan (2022–2032), published by the Scottish Government and COSLA. Its vision is to reduce the number of suicide deaths in Scotland while tackling the inequalities that contribute to suicide, so that any child, young person or adult who has thoughts of taking their own life, or who is affected by suicide, gets the help they need and feels a sense of hope.
All of the work is delivered in line with the strategy's guiding principles: putting inequalities and diversity first; co-developing our work with people with lived and living experience; embedding Time, Space, Compassion; keeping the voices of children and young people central; connecting people across sectors to learn together; reducing the stigma of suicide; and ensuring our work is evidence-informed.
The role
This is a new role, hosted by Change Mental Health on behalf of Suicide Prevention Scotland, created to support delivery of Outcome 3 of Creating Hope Together: that everyone affected by suicide is able to access high quality, compassionate, appropriate and timely support.
The postholder will work alongside colleagues in the delivery collective - primarily the Time Space Compassion (TSC) Lead and the Children and Young People (CYP) Lead - to support delivery of a range of actions across the Delivery Plan. In practice this means helping partners in community, primary care, unscheduled care and mental health settings to put person-centred, compassionate approaches into everyday practice; growing the reach of Time, Space, Compassion across Scotland; and strengthening support for children and young people at higher risk of suicide.
The role focuses on enabling practical change in real-world settings through strong partnerships, effective communication, and the thoughtful use of learning and evidence to support continuous improvement. It sits within a small, collaborative team and works across a wide network of national and local partners, including NHS Boards, local authorities, third sector organisations, the Lived and Living Experience Panel (LLEP) and the Youth Advisory Group (YAG).

- Represent the work of Suicide Prevention Scotland in multi-agency partnerships and networks, building trust, setting realistic expectations and delivering reliably.
- Work in close partnership with colleagues across the delivery collective to ensure a coherent, joined-up approach across Outcome 3 and the wider delivery plan.
Lead communications and knowledge sharing
- Develop and deliver engaging, accessible communications that promote learning and support the spread of our resources and projects.
- Use digital channels and networks to share insight and good practice.
- Create content that is trauma-informed, inclusive and practice-focused.
Support evaluation and continuous improvement
- Work with local and national partners to develop and implement proportionate evaluation activity that identifies impact, learning and opportunities for improvement.
- Synthesise and share learning to inform the future development of our resources, including producing clear, accessible written summaries.
Project coordination and management
- Support national and local partners to plan, coordinate and administer implementation activity, maintaining project plans, milestones and risk registers.
- Monitor progress against delivery plan milestones and prepare updates and reports for governance groups.
- Support budget tracking and ensure value for money.
General Duties:
- Act in accordance with Data Protection legislation. Ensure all records, personal, staff and client data are managed in line with Data Management and Information Governance policies.

- To participate in regular supervision and appraisal and undertake any relevant training as appropriate to the role.
- To work in accordance with the charity's national policies and local operating procedures and those of external regulators or professional bodies.
- Undertake other related duties in line with the scope and purpose of the role, as agreed with the line manager.
Essential Criteria:
- A track record of delivering change and of working in multi-agency stakeholder partnerships and groups.
- The ability to build understanding quickly and become effective in the role at pace.
- The ability to build and maintain trust – setting realistic expectations and delivering reliably, with an approach that balances ambition with pragmatism.
- The ability to find a way through complex topics and situations, prioritising the most important tasks to make the best use of time.
- A strong commitment to compassionate, person-centred ways of working, and to ways of working that can be applied in day-to-day practice.
- The ability to apply group learning principles to support collective improvement and development.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to produce sensitive, trauma-informed and equity-focused materials and session plans.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines.
- A commitment to co-production with people with lived and living experience, and to tackling the inequalities that contribute to suicide.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Scotland, with occasional overnight stays.
