About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Independent Advocate to join our team on a zero-hours contract. This role involves providing high-quality advocacy support across various disciplines, ensuring individuals have a voice in decisions that affect their lives.
You will work with people in hospitals, care homes, their own homes, and within the community, supporting them to understand their rights and choices. The role requires travel across London.
Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will be required to visit CQC registered care homes and would be subject to government requirements.
Key responsibilities
î Provide independent advocacy under the Care Act 2014, supporting individuals to understand and exercise their rights.
î Act as an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA), representing individuals who lack capacity to make specific decisions.
î Undertake the role of a Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
î Support individuals through Rule 1.2 advocacy, ensuring their views are represented in court proceedings.
î Provide Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) for individuals detained under the Mental Health Act.
î Work directly with clients, ensuring their wishes and needs are heard and respected.
î Maintain accurate records and adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Head of Grant Management is a newly created role at a pivotal point in Start Network’s growth, designed to lead and shape how we manage an increasingly complex, multi-donor funding portfolio of over £40m.
As the first in this role, you will set the strategy, systems and operating model for grant management, ensuring strong stewardship, donor compliance and effective oversight of sub-granting across our global network. You will play a key leadership role in embedding clear, organisation-wide ways of working across the full grant lifecycle, working in close partnership with Finance, Resource Mobilisation, Assurance and Programme teams.

Across the UK, over 4 million children are currently living in poverty, driving increasing demand for essential items and support for families with young children. In 2024 alone, baby banks supported over 219,000 families, a 35% increase on the previous year.
And demand is outpacing supply. Many baby banks are being forced to turn families away.
Baby banks are community-led organisations that provide essential items such as clothing, nappies and equipment to families with young children experiencing poverty or crisis. They operate in diverse ways and often offer support and signposting in addition to the material goods, reflecting the needs of their local communities. Baby banks have grown rapidly over the past decade in response to rising levels of need. However, this growth has largely been organic and fragmented.
BBA exists to support, unite and advocate for baby banks: strengthening collective impact, unlocking national opportunities, and helping a fast-growing and diverse movement operate with greater voice, reach and resilience.
The Baby Bank Alliance (BBA) was co-founded by Purposeful Ventures, Save the Children UK, Little Village and the Bristol Baby Bank Network. Since its founding, BBA has built strong national partnerships, secured significant funding and goods for baby banks, and raised the profile of the sector through national media and corporate partnerships (including with organisations such as IKEA).
Currently incubated by Purposeful Ventures and Save the Children UK, BBA is now moving into its next phase: in Summer 2027 we will become an independent organisation and are on the journey to build the national recognition, scale and sustainability to meet growing need.

About the role
At SEA, all our work is grounded in evidence and shaped by the lived experiences of victim-survivors. As Research Officer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, survivor-centred research on economic abuse as part of a major new three-year project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Working closely with the Senior Research Officer, colleagues across SEA, academic partners and external stakeholders, you will support research exploring coerced debt as a form of economic abuse and the responses to it across systems and services. The role will involve qualitative and quantitative research activities, including data collection, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and producing accessible and impactful research outputs.
Your work will help strengthen understanding of economic abuse and inform policy, practice and systems change on coerced debt that improves responses for victim-survivors.

You will have the ability to sensitively work with victim-survivors to learn about their lived experiences of economic abuse , including coerced debt, as well as the ability to conduct research with professional stakeholders.
